Schweser's reply to my query for availability of their notes for FRM 2008 and shipping time to Mumbai,India. From : Stephanie McGrath@Kaplan Tue, May 6, 2008 at 3:49 AM
Anil, Thank you for your inquiry. The FRM products will be available in Mid May, we do not have an exact date yet as they are updating the materials to reflect any changes. International shipping takes 4-7 business days.

I was going through Jorion handbook for FRM - 4th edition and I didnt find compatible enough for preparation for Nov 2008.
Handbook was last published in March 2007 and meant basically for Nov 2007 exam. Thereafter GARP didnt issue/suggested new edition i.e. the same edition will continue.
It looks like GARP publishes handbook every 2-3 years.
But looking at risk areas which are never constant & looking at FRM curriculum which is updated thoroughly every year, it dint fit in.
There are major changes in Quant section and few other sections. Certain readings are removed all together and certain new are added.
Like EVM theory from Quant is removed & D Gujarati book is introduced. Chapters of Micheal Ong is introduced in Credit Risk portion.
So we should not end up readings extraneous material.
Best thing is to go through 2008 AIMS first & then go thorugh readings suggested in study guide like Hull,Tuckmam,Gujarati, etc.
So please dont make Jorion's handbook as your base of study. It may not be that fruitful.
I entirely agree with you Anil, regarding your views on the handbook. Following is the extract from the 2008 FRM study guide which is self explanatory: The Financial Risk Manager Handbook, 4th edition, by Philippe Jorion (New York: Wiley & Sons, 2007), covers most of the FRM examination topics at the appropriate level. However, please note that the FRM Handbook was designed to help candidates review the material and is not a textbook. Alone, the FRM Handbook is not sufficient to prepare a candidate to pass the examination. Regards

This is Niranjan. Just one week back, I came to know about their community through of one of my friends. I have found so much of valuable information here. One week back, I did not know anything about FRM, Now, I have clear picture of FRM, how to prepare, and books for good preparation and good institutes available. It is really awesome.
Thanks to Tumtum/Snowflakes/Rlkrao,Shankar/Shyam/Girish/Rahul/Anil and to all Pagal Guys.
if u dun mind bro...can u temme how is it that people convince the companies to sponsor their course...i mean how do u approach the company and on what basis does the company sponsor courses for its employees
Just delete all the orkut links and ur email id from this post. This is against forum rules.
Theres no other way except for PMs and being hooked to PG
cheers,

hi Anil, im srinivas from b'lore & have enrolled for FRM exam. im interested in FRM study group.just can you scrap me in orkut @ ******* or mail me at ******..i do not check PG quite often..
Regarding Company Sponsorship there are some companies that have Employee Professional development plans - according to which they sponsor their employess for further studies.
If ur employer doesnt provide this facility - then U need to convince them for sponsorhsip.
Negotiations should include the following points.
1. whats FRM & GARP 2. Why is Risk Management important - and different kinds of Risk (now dont enlist the 5 modules of FRM exam - u can say Financial Risk, Liquidity Risk, Legal & Compliance Risk and the most impt Reputational Risk)
3. How does it fit into ur professional development plans (Short term and Long term goals) and how the company benefits
4. * Cost Benefit Analysis - Return of Investment & Gains for the firm. (This is the most impt thing that u company will be interested in)
Hope this helps
cheers,
Shyam

what do you mean by undergrad - If you are studying in 12th or FY,SY then would recommend dont give it.
If you are in Final Year of ur college, then you can give the exam. Ur Age says 23 - so my guess is u r already done with ur graduation.
NOTE: GARP doesnt specify any minimum educational requirement for appearing for the FRM exam. That means even an Undegrad can give the exam. U only get to become the chartered member once u have two years of recommended work ex.
FRM will be of help to those people who have some work ex. CFA would give a better recognition for Freshers and people who are looking to change Careers or Sectors.
cheers,
Shyam
