NITIE Students Get Unconventional, Beat High Salaries to Pick Profiles of Their Choice
"Restlessness and discontent are the first necessities of progress."
- Thomas A. Edison
Millionaires in mid-20s, industry bullish on management graduates, quality education evolving over a period of time, are some of the issues that have dominated placement reports over the last few years. While many people wonder what makes news out of them year on year, it is NITIE's management batch's soaring ambitions and willingness to sail unknown waters this year around. The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore, they attempt the impossible - and achieve it, generation after generation. The Management Batch of 2007 stands testimony to this fact as they were lapped up with discerning precision by companies in two days of campus placements.
As many as 77 companies came down to campus for placements and 45 companies ended up attracting students with their profiles and job offers. The number of job offers made was 2.30 per acceptance. The highest international offer was made by Olam International worth $ 85,000. The highest domestic salary offered was approximately Rs. 12 Lakhs. More than 10 % of the batch joined the millionaire club. ICICI Bank (20), Cognizant Technology Solutions (20), ICICI Prudential (17), Kotak Mahindra (16), IBM (11) were among the top recruiters.
The laterals process, designed for students with prior work experience, had companies of the likes of IBM, Intel, Computer Sciences Corp., SAP Consulting, Tata Strategic Management Group, Atos Origin, Tholons, Accenture Consulting, Eicher Consulting, SUN Microsystems, Ernst & Young, Cognizant Technology Solutions offering premier job profiles to students of their choice. The profiles ranged from strategy / general management to consulting. 20 percentage of the batch preferred consultancy over other sectors indicative of a trend away from the conventional "industry". Cognizant lead the bandwagon followed by SAP and IBM.
NITIE's long-standing ally FMCG wasn't to be left behind. It was reinforced by the participation of majors like HLL, P&G;, ITC, Nestle, Britannia, Cadburys, Asian Paints, Marico, Colgate Palmolive and pharma majors like Glenmark, GSK and JnJ. 15 percentage of the batch embraced FMCG and the profiles offered ranged from sales, marketing, commercial and various supply chain functions. HLL made 5 offers across marketing, commercial and IT division followed by P&G; and Nestle.
The Banking, Financial Services and Insurance sector ranked among students' top preferences with 35% accepted offers across companies in this sector. This sector also witnessed a phenomenal increase in the number of jobs and the nature of roles being offered as compared to the last year. Besides top banks like Citibank, Standard Chartered, ICICI and HDFC, this year saw the likes of equity research firms like Irevna also featuring in the students' favored destinations.
GE Money, ICICI Prudential and Kotak Mahindra banks also got good numbers because of the diverse profiles opened up some of which were Relationship Management, Sales and Marketing, Credit Risk, Market Risk, Treasury Operations, Investment Banking Operations. Students responded positively with ICICI, Citigroup, Kotak, ICICI Prudential and Irevna getting good acceptance numbers.
One of the students managed to crack the nut of ICICI's International Banking Group.

The face of emergent India, the Information Technology sector had new entrants like Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Computer Science Corp. and favourites Cognizant Technology Solutions, Infosys, Intel, Honeywell, Cypress, TCS and Wipro. The major highlight of this sector was Tata Consultancy Services opening up its Global Consulting and Financial Services consulting division and Oracle offering product sales and was met with an enthusiastic response from the students.
The Final Word
The day has come when the risk to remain tight in a bud is more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Placement 2007 will be remembered with pride for the grit of the batch in sticking to their areas of interest ignoring peer pressure of soaring salaries. Profiles and roles offered have beaten salaries to be the differentiator students are looking for.
A visibly pleased Associate Dean (Placements) - Prof. Ashok Pundir - said, "The toast to the phenomenal success of Placements 2007 should go to the determination of students to get into their field of interest and the companies responding positively to it. This year has seen a surge in acceptances in the banking and consultancy sectors. Marketing and Finance as functions have also found growing acceptances among students. I heartily thank our alumnus across organizations that have played a significant role in creating a quality talent pool perception of NITIE in the corporate world."

Congo NITIE

Every B-school has been washing hands in the booming economy

I won't be probing you on average salary and equivalent shit ;)

Some questions are unanswered though:
1. How many students in the batch btw?
2. Which aviation company came to NITIE?
3. Any more info about companies with Ops/SCM profiles?
4. Which Indian co. offered the max salary?

Vivekanand dude...i was wondering when the placement details would be released when vaidy showed me UK's interview with ET yesterday at work.

Googled up on NITIE's placements 2007 and found this page.

Good show by Impress.

Cheers

Congrats to Everyone from NITIE......way to go ....I have two Questions.

2. Median/Average Salary for LAterals?..and Is lateral 22 months and above?

Cheers

Do companies like P&G;, and J&J; Med come for the ops profile only or do these companies also offer Marketing Profiles???

another query .... if the final placements were over in the first week of January .. then y the delay of a month in coming out with a placement report???
that too without an average salary ..
i mean if the revision i expected in some companies then the salary being offered at this point of time should be taken into consideration isn't it??

well the official figure for salaries is not out as the placecom is waiting for the official letter from the companies...many of the companies r revisng the offer so median nd avg figure will come only after getting the final letters...

Hi,
I'm not in a position to handle queries on the average and median salaries, because many people haven't received their offer letters yet. But I can assure you that the average and median salaries for this year will be at least 15% more than last years numbers.
In NITIE lateral placements are conducted for people having more than 20 months of work experience.
The reports take some time in getting approvals from the college.
I'll post the average and median salary figures as and when they're released by the placement committee.
P&G; offers the Product Supply profile in NITIE. I'm not sure about J&J; medical.

Vivekanand

I would actually love the fact, if NITIE students wouldnt answer this question 😃 .
High time MBA colleges, stop marketing themselves, just on the basis of Avg salary offered.
Would have preferred, if the highest, Domestic and Intl salary was not given, coz then it seems, they just want to strut the high pay scales and not the lower side.

Anyway very good show by NITIE  ...
Jaldi shortlist nikalo :), i want to attend GD PI ....

waiting for the offer letters to find out the average salary??
surprising :wow:
werent the salaries that are being offered communicated in the PPTs??
and if the revision in salaries is expected then shouldnt NITIE come out with an avg salary with the present salaries on offer??

Would like to know the answers to the same 2 questions too.. :)

Ashish

I'm not in the placement committee... So I might not be able to satisfy you my answers.
Anyway, for my last post about the average salaries et all.
We have a separate lateral placement process(for people having over 20 months of work experience) which happens before the campus recruitment programme. And in many cases, the differences in the salaries quoted during the PPT's and those in the offer letters are SUBSTANTIAL.
Hence we would prefer to calculate our statistics on the basis of offer letters rather than on the salaries quoted by companies during the PPT's.

Cheers,
Vivekanand

PS: If you're looking for more clarifications then feel free to PM me.

Thats surprising ... coz in the lateral processes isn't the salary communicated to the student on the spot and negotiated upon (if neccessary) and only then accepted ???:wow:

so the lateral process should only help u in coming out with an average salary rather than otherwise????

True... in the lats process the salaries are arrived at after negotiations. But these negotiated are also revised.
@Ankit_rox Please understand that every b-school has its own way of doing things. And by the wait and watch approach NITIE ensures genuineness of its figures.
By the way even in case of the summer placement reports, NITIE had clearly mentioned the salary details (including a mention of whether the salary was on a per month basis or on an entire project basis).
While going through the summer placement report of some B-school, I was confused as to whether the remuneration was on a per month basis or on an entire project basis.

Congrats to the 2005-07 batch of NITIE ! :)

Some more questions:

1) Did any company offer a fin + Operations profile? If yes, can you let me know the details?
2) what was the minimum work ex requirement criteria to sit for laterals ?
3) Can you tell me the types of role offered under consulting? (roles under both IT consulting and non-IT consulting )
4) Did any company offer a fin + mktg profile? (retail banking types... )

Congratulations once more, and all the best to the 2006-08 batch for an enriching summers experience.

cheers,

-Vengeance

Your confusion is valid, but for summers, it should be on the project basis to convey the right message. Afterall, per month stipend for summers may not be relevant as duration for summers can be 8-11 weeks.

But for finals, I feel the confusion doesnt not arise. It has to be annual salary on CTC basis.

from where did summers come into this whole discussion?????
