Folks for certain reasons I am having to defer my admission to a US b-school by 1 year (they only have one yearly intake).

I got my F1 visa stamped (3 year visa) - kindly tell me if I need a new visa or reapply for visa stamping?

Two types of answers confuse me:

I do need a new visa, as I will not be using my student visa for more than 5 months.

5 month rule only applies for students on 'break' from studies. As I didn't begin my studies yet, I only need an updated I-20 and a letter from my school about my deferred admission. Since I am not applying to a new school, my SEVIS # won't change and I should not need a new visa.

Please share your knowledge - I am very confused with this!
