EPYP / EPYM programme from IIM-C offered through Directwav

Hi Guys,

Currently I am applying for EPYP 1 year certificate course with IIM C. Can the Alumni to throw some light on the value-add the course has provided. Moreover I would like to know how far will this one year course help in the industry to move to the next level. Is this certificate course recognized by the top IT companies.

Hi,
Planning to join this EPYP programme.
I have work exp of 1yr and 9 months.
Has anyone done this programme?
Is there any advantage doing this?
Is it value for money? or should I wait till i finish 5yrs and do executive MBA or some other programme?
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for asking the ubiquotous question in this old thread.
Can anyone who's done EPYP from IIMC tell me about the prospects of this course, the employabiltiy that a Civil Engineer with 5+ years experience may gain from EPYP, other useful details about the course, etc.
I'd be thankful if someone can give the contact of any senior who's doing this course now.

Hi,

If you have 5 years of experience then there is no use with EPYP. You might as well try doing the EPBM from IIM C or there is another course from IIM K which I have heard is good. With 5 years of experience you have plenty of options, but EPYP is not one of them. You can also explore options from XLRI, SP Jain and other B schools. Or why not try for an Exec MBA. All the best.

It wasn't for me, I asked it for a senior colleague. Anyhow thanks a lot for the useful reply.

Hi friends

I am enrolled for EPYP- 13 batch offerd by IIM-C. Can anyone give a overview of this prog. those who completed this prog and who currently pursue can pl post their views.what is the course content?

Hi Amneeth

Can u give the mail id of ur friends who completed EPYP prog?

Thanks in advance

Hi All,
I'm enrolled in EPYP-13 and i'll say it's a very good course. I went for EPYP because rather than investing time and energy in learning quant/DI and vocab I wanted to learn subjects which i would learn in a regular MBA.It made more sense. Also I had already done a professional course B.Tech(IT) hence I wanted to explore the IT industry first and then decide if a career in management would be apt for me.EPYP has helped me figuring out the same.
My first project was with GE Capital and I could relate a lot of things on the functional side after the minor finance section was covered by the same. We will cover corporate finance in detail during the majors, I could discover my interest in finance particularly through the same and looking forward to enroll for CFA after this course.
Blindly going for a full time MBA doesn't make sense.Work ex is very essential to understand where urr interest lies.....

Overview of the course:
Minors (5 classes each):
1. People's Management
2. Finance
3. Marketing
4. Operations
5. Economics

Major (4 classes each/ 5 for major):
1. People's Management
2. Finance
3. Marketing
4. Operations

Exams for each modules.
Campus Visit for 5 days
Total duration 45 weeks approx

Its really pity that in todays media hype of MBA, the real education, the real idea to discover you lagging way behind the scene. To get a seat in a reputed MBA college you are ready to invest 2 years of your life, leave out your job, and put your careers initial years in those sweaty coaching centers classrooms for exam preparation instead of putting that real effort on your job. Everybody wants just an MBA but what next after that, same routine job with a few lacs increase in your CTC? Is it what a management education is about?

No. Certainly not.

Management education wants you to discover you. Wants what you are up to and brush your major skills on it. Salary is just an extra perk which has to come automatically. I am not against management college exams. Prepare. But dont exhaust yourself. Dont close other options. There are other doors to success also. Just be at right place at right time. Rest your destiny will take care.

Anyways, I just wanted to put my experiences with EPYP@IIMC here, so that no other Saurabh finds himself confused and searching for pages on different forums about the decision which has potential to make or break his career.

Last year, when I chucked regular MBA seat at NMIMS for EPYP@IIMC, I had one and only one incentive in my mind.
10 lacs fee at NMIMS + two years of salary loss
vs
1.25 lac at IIMC.

And believe me all the IIMC professors thing, IIM brand name was far, far and far away from my thought process. I just wanted to learn management after miserable attempts at CAT with the highest score of 97.39%ile in CAT 2009.

Now, today after returning from campus visit, with the friends that I made, with the sessions which I attended there, with the nights in that humid hostel room, I applaud myself that I made a right choice.

Its ok you dont get placements after these courses. These courses are meant to make your learn management fundas without resigning from your regular job. And even after 2+ years of your job experience you want a formal forum for your job rather than a network of 180+ students then I dont want to comment. You better keep preparing for management colleges exams. You wont be able to understand a subtle difference between MBA and management education.

Best of luck for all the EPYP14 participants. Tough luck that you guys have to pay more fees. But with 13 batches already in market and its growing demands, it does not come as surprise.

You said it all Saurabh bhai...It was indeed a visit to remember.

IIM-C mission statement is "Gyanum Sarvhitaye" (Knowledge for everyone)
I had a discussion with the professors there about CFA vs full time MBA with spl in finance. What astonished me was that they said at the top you would need knowledge about all management domains. It means if you are aiming for an MBA from the IIMs you should in a long run aim to become CEOs of companies and create more jobs, rather than aiming for a fatter package. Another difference between a manager and a leader.IIMs expect leadership from their students.

We were treated like regular IIM students by the faculty and staff and I take immense pride to be an IIM-C alumni even if it is an executive course i'm doing from there. The campus visit re-assured me that I'm an IIM-C alumni and quality is expected out of me.

I had decided to go for EPYP as I thought tht rather than spending time learning quant and vocab I should invest time in knowing about what exactly is taught in an MBA and would a management profile be suitable for me, the trip answered a lot of my questions that I had about my career..

IIM-C rocksss

Hi,

I am Software professional in technical for past 4 years .Now I want to go for managerial certification. Planning for Executive Programme for Young Managers from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow . Will this help me?
how about placements? will the companies consider my previous experience in IT field ?
Or will I be considered fresher?

The IIM-L program is more of general mangament and the course content doesnt seem to be as insightful as EPYP. But if you want to become an IT-manger , it should help you. If you are aiming for Business Analyst positions across domains, then this alone might not help as it requires domain expertise. But again, I'll suggest, you talk to the company HR. There is no placement offered, but you'll surely be well networked and will have friends across industry to have your resume forwarded.

Hi,

Actually I am a software programmer with experience in developement and support. I want to switch to the managerial domain now.But I am unable to get proper guideline on this.I am confused as to which training or certification will help me get into the managerial side.If you can advise then it would help a lot. Thanks for your inputs.

Hi Shobh,

If you want to become an IT manager. This program will definitely help you. You an choose to specialize in PM or Marketing.

-Business Analyst roles in IT consultancy firm.

-You can prepare for CFA and switch industry from IT to Finance.

- Can switch your technology to DWBI (Cognos,Informatica,SAS etc) + EPYP.

You basically need to decide on the functional domain you want to go.
