While it was a largely feel good interview for many with hardly any technical questions being asked, I feel that the panel has carefully evaluated the character traits, compatibility and value addition that prospective candidates may bring to IIT Roorkee. The man management and event manegement skills of seniors at IIT Roorkee are stupendous. They deserve the highest praise for being guiding lights for prospective candidates. May God bless them. All the best to everyone who awaits the IIT Roorkee results along with me.

PS: Our GD topic was - Management eduation - is it necessary for success in business?

Neways coming to my experiences...

I got an interview before the GD...
So i reach to panel C for the interview..
4 ppl sitting there...
O-old guy
L-lady
R-Really old guy
Y-Young guy.
M- Me

I came and was aksed to sit down...
R-Tell me which degree you r getting, where from and wat r ur marks so far..
M- Gave the answer (cudnt say too much in this qs..the qs was close ended..:neutral:)

Y- isnt tht collg affiliated to Uttaranchal Tech university.
M- NO sir.. the latest batch is from UA tech .. but ours is from UPTU.

O- Which School u did ur schooling from?
M- blah blah blah...(another close ended qs...:( )

L- so u r in ur final yr
M-Yes Ma'am.

L-so tell me bout ur final yr project.
M- i strtd speaking...was interrupted in between..
L- please calm down.. go slow with ur answers.. we really want to hear u.. take some toffees and kajus if u want to...
M-thank u ma'am.. (n politely took one).
M- sorry ma'am ill start expalaining again
M-strtd explaining to them.. asked them for a blank paper..
Y- we dont have a paper..
M- asked for a paper from my file..
L- Tell us without the paper.. we dont want to go into too much details..
M-okay.. n strd explaining..

No further qs on technical topics..(thnk god.. )

R- (seeing my certificate of cricket..)..u play cricket???
M- Yes sir.. i play as a batsman.. usually at no.4 or 5.. as a pinch hitter..
R- do u watch cricket too??
M- yes sir with gr8 interest..

Silence for a few seconds... all r staring at me.

L- wats ur JMET rank?
M-656 ma'am.

Then came the perennial question...:(

R- thts a good rank... so u must have got calls from most of the IIT's.
M-Yes!.. IIT M, IIT K, IIT kharagpur... apart from ur institute.. IISc hasnt releases its short list yet...

Y- Any other calls?
M-Narsi Monji, IMT.

L- say u convert all calls then wud u come to rrk?
M-... smiling... First of all ill be very happy to face this pleasant problem...then gave my reasons.. added tht since i m doing my engg from roorkee itself.. i wont face ne problem in adjusting to the city.. besides i have been seeing IIT and IITians with wistful eyes.. so ill like to be one of them now...

the interview lasted just 5-6 mins thts all..??:??:??:

GD: went inside.. the panel again 4 ppl..1 lady 1 old man, 1 really old man n 1 young man..:)

One gave the instructions...
The topics were..
1. Knowledge is power,
2. Working Women make better managers.

We chose Working Women...

The Gd strtd... i was the third to speak... unfortunately tht was the only time i cud enter.. as it became fishmarket after tht..

I intervened and controlled the grp once... but it again turned to a fish market..

Then just to my mental satisfaction i had to speak.. so i strtd speaking with one half of grp..(desperation stuff)..

We were asked to conclude.. one spoke the conclusion..
N i was bout to speak again..infact had gone halfway thru the conclusion... when we were stopped...

Hey guys, here's my GD/PI experience...

had my slot at 1 pm on the 11th... reached at 12 :45, got certificates verified and there was a short but impressive presentation by the seniors abt the insti..

JMET AIR - 1139

at around 2:30, i entered the interview hall ( Panel A )
Panel : P1- auntyji :wow:( serious )
P2 - Old guy ( very serious )
P3 - guy in his forties ( bindaas )

P3 - please take a seat
Me - thank you
P2 - do you have your CV with you?
Me - (Oops... screwed :() No sir, but i have all my certis/marksheets

P2 & P3 examine my work certificates

P1 - tell us abt urself
Me - current work .. blah blah .. family background .. blah blah.. hobbies,etc.

Cut short by P3
P3 - So you're a telecom engineer ? explain the reason for the rapidly increasing mobile consumer base
Me - falling costs, desire to be connected anywhere in the country at all times , etc.

P3 - What is the current limit on FDI investment in telecom?
Me - (had luckily read it a couple of days back :satisfie:) 74 %

P3 - current players in telecom market in india?
Me - current scenario, a bit on Vodafone's attempts,etc.

P3 - who invented the first telephone and when?
Me - ( what ??? ) Alexander Graham bell. around the 1930s
P3 - No, it was in 1918
Me - ( damn 😞 ) Yes, it was in the early part of the 20th century

P1 - (suddenly) ok, thank you
Me - Thank you (exit)

Totally puzzled.. don't know what to make fo my PI. good ?? bad ??

GD started after 15 mins. 9 ppl.
Topics : Current state of indian cricket team
Should higher education be privatised ?

Majority goes for 2nd topic :wow:

heated discussion for 7 mins and summary after that.
Made 2-3 points in the GD and also contributed in the summary. Overall ok, stuttered a bit in the summary, though.

So that's it guys, seriously don't know abt my chances :satisfie:

😃 😃 i enetred roorkee at 2 30 in the morning took 1 hotel and to my surprise all hotles were book shaadiyaan karke i was very tired as last night i was also not able to aleep properly SIIB then went to IIT R had been there before so feeling comfortable people who were there felt astonished i was in beard with trousers n jacket i was the last person giving inetrview but i was pretty comfortable dus to IQBAL and GURU:) i reported and to my surprise my batch card was not there:neutral: then i sat in the hall people were pretty coolll ek do chicks bhi thi:) then i asked them that kitna time lagega i had to log out from hotel and BHEL ke liye draft bhi bana tha so i wnet from there and when i acme back my chance was gone chal koi na i was last GD was cool

there were three people in panel A every body told that the person on the left is grilling very much but i was very confident propably due to guru and iqbal:) i entered

first of all thanks to all seniors for their wonderful help.
i never thought that i would get such a support from seniors.
well my slot was on 10th feb 8 am . and first name of the day was mine:wow:
for interview and was supposd to face panel A.

was told to wait in front of interview panel door as they were havin breakfast
luckily a senior co-ordinator was there and suddenly he asked me whether i
was gujju as he was one. we conversed for 10 minutes and it helpd me a lot to relax and ward off stress, then suddenly bell rang from inside the panel room, and senior gujju
signald me to go and shoot.

i went inside and first thing i saw on the table was bowl of chocolates(mixed varieties)
i thought that i have enterd in some weird sort of stress interview and thought they would offer me one and watch my reaction (as i heard happnd in some interviews somewhere)
so i got mentally prepard for it. it was a panel of three
g1: finance proff. of iit-r as said by senior gujju.
g2: from some industry
lady1: from industry
(would like to tell one thing , i was lucky enough not to look at bowl full of chocolates most of the times but thought i would be offered one soon , which i think is a good sign of self control, dont know what thy were up to by placin it right in front of me)

g2: tell me the most important thing you like in yourself.
me: the most important thing...................................

g1: what is your college name
me: v.v.p. engg. college

lady: full form
me:gave it with confidance....(it is tough, had to mug it down )

lady: is it a known college
me: yes mam, infact it is the most reputed college of saurashtra(region of gujarat)

g1: so in which branch u r doin btech
me: elect. and comm.

g1: how many drives in computers
me::wow:

g1:i mean in computers you have many drives , how many
me: i dunno the exact number, but they are floppy drive, disk drive, hard

g1:(interruptin): give me their technical names
me: sorry sir, dont know
g1: explain the process between microprocessor, ram and hard drive when u enter data
me(finally......): explaind perfectly and he seemd to be convincd,

g2: so have you heard about henry ford.
me: he was ................
g2:what did he do exceptionally diffrnt from others
me: damn, i forgot bout assembly lines and dunno why six sigma slippd out of my toung,.
but later on correctd myself and said its not six sigma as it is from motorola but i dunno what he did.
g2: ok since you are from gujarat tell me about dhirubhai ambani
me: blah blah blah
g2:what he did exceptionally
me(since i saw guru the day before): he manipulated law for the benefits of the company.......................

lady: what is the diff. between team and group:wow:
me: gave a good reply but she smd not convincd
lady: difference between communication skills and conversation
me: blah blah blah

ok thank you , you may leave
(i was waitin for the chocolate till the end,. )

then came the gd.
kudos to sachin(senior) who was our gd co-ordinator ,
he explaind us outside the gd panel as we had good 10 minuts before gd
he clearly told that do no fight as it wud lead to less marks since the panel is
peace lovin panel. so if a gd turns into fish market then those shoutin would get lowest marks. we wre 8 and all of us decided not to fight.
we were given two topics
1: labur reforms
2: is management education necessary for success.

all those who told not to turn gd into fish market started shoutin on the top of their voice
but i was lucky enough to enter 4 times when there was peace and managd to give direction to group and then it again turnd into fish market.

BTW: met martyr over there (we were in same guest house) and luckily in same slot as well as same gd group. it was fun to meet a pg buddy over there.

Same here. met viraaj a fellow pg buddy. He is a wonderful individual, very down to earth and brimming with confidence. Indeed it is because of pg that we are able to meet with such individuals, not as strangers but as fellow members of a shared community.
