Hello MBA Aspirants,

FOR STUDENTS LOOKING FOR QUALITY EDUCATION,CAREER, AFFORDABILITY & FUN, THIS IS THE PLACE !!!! YOU GET IT ALL !!!

Happy to inform u all that Department of Management Studies, University of Madras is now under Single Window Counselling(along with PSGIM, SSN School of Management etc..)

To tell about the department, it's one of the oldest departments in India and it has the best Alumni network than many other universities. It has a good faculty team(Mix of core faculties and visiting faculties). Visiting faculties include IIM passed outs, Industry experts, core consultants etc.. (from varied fields with the best knowledge). Coming to the placements front, the department has a dedicated students' team with an effective Placement Officer working with the great spirit throughout the placement sessions. The percentage of students getting offers every year is very appealing than other peer colleges/departments in the same 'tier' universities.

---- > The curriculum runs around for 2 years - with 4 semesters (3 theory semesters & final semester is a dedicated project semester) , at the end of 2nd semester - 2 months of summer internship.

------> Dual Specialization (eg. Finance & Operations, Marketing & HR etc..)

------> Two groups - Regular & Self Supportive (Syllabus anf faculties are the same for the both except the fees difference ). Seats are allocated based on the TANCET scores.

-------> The payback period is very very short (the fees being very affordable : For Regular ( Apprx. 50,000 for two years) & For Self Supportive ( Apprx. 1,00,000 for 2 years)

Analyze well !

Think wise ! Choose Wise !

Thank You

It is always interesting to know our roots !

The mother of all universities of South , University of Madras' history dates back to the period of British India . The year of Great Revolt 1857 ,was when University of Madras was established along with University of Delhi and Bombay , in the model of London University itself. It is an almamater to three nobel laureates from India.

These are the institutes pioneering research in India and of which University of Delhi and Madras have had their Departments of Management Studies way back in 1954 and 1955 respectively.

IIM-C and IIM-A were later established by 1961 followed by University of Bombay in 1965.

Now the Departments are known as ,

Department of Management Studies (DoMS) - University of Madras.

Faculty of Management Studies(FMS) - University of Delhi.

Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies(JBIMS) - University of Mumbai.

The later two departments are famous even among the CAT aspirants.

In this age where education costs a fortune , takes a toll on our parents' hard earned money , these three Govt. universities offer the best in the least cost possible.

In cities where admissions to kindergarten takes lakhs of rupees , Delhi University charges Rs.10480 per year which is almost 100 times lesser than what the top IIMs charge nowadays.

University of Madras takes around Rs.25000 /- year for its full-time MBA regular programme.

I still can't believe it !!!

Let me make it clear on the terms REGULAR and SELF-SUPPORTIVE (SS) in MU-DoMS ( Madras University - Department of Management Studies)

Both are full time MBA programmes.

The degree is awarded by the university . It is not a diploma as most IIMs and B-Schools do.

There is no difference except the fee structure between regular and Self Supportive (SS).

The staff and the subjects are the same .

I am bound to list some of the many advantages of MU-DoMS .

First of all it is the UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS , you are studying in . You are not an affiliated college.

As mentioned in earlier posts , University of Madras is one among the three oldest universities of India . Hence it is world renowned for its post graduate courses and research.

At this point , there are two advantages of being an University Department ,

1. The faculties are well-qualified.

The visiting faculties are from IIM-s , retired heads of renowned government bodies or consultants etc. They do prefer University Depts to teach , than any other affiliated colleges.

2. Madras Univ has been the almamater for most of the eminent govt / non-govt staff who are heading large organisations .They return their favour in various ways of which one is placements especially at DoMS.

The location of the university is a great advantage.

DoMS is the first department right in front of the university entrance with the historical Senate house near by.

Almost all the companies in India and MNC's that operate in India either have their branch or head-office at Chennai , as it is the capital and a metro.

This gives the advantages like ,

1. Eminent visiting faculties
2. Eminent dignitaries for Guest Lectures every week.
3. Nearest for the companies to recruit.
4. Chennai ,one of the intellectual capitals of India.

The majestic centenary auditorium finished in 1964 , is one of the largest auditoriums with a 3000 seater capacity. It is often visited by dignitaries such as the Chief Minister and the honourable Governor many times in any given year as the convocations of affiliated colleges and others happen here.

This makes DoMS always noticed among eminent personalities and corporates who felicitate the dignitaries with the recent sensation being Narendra Modi delivering a speech.

University of Madras has around 72 departments distributed at 4-campuses at Marina , Chepauk , Guindy and Taramani .

Chepauk is the oldest and the main campus . It houses DoMS .

There are around 38 depts at Chepauk . Only PG courses are offered in any dept .

Hence fear not of ragging , the students are mature .

It is as dreamy as any one would see in lot of Indian movies . No restrictions , no limits .

With various departments ranging from Ancient history , Anthropology to Economics to Indian Music and Dance , it is the melting pot of various cultures of India and abroad.

You are free to explore. Students can choose electives from any of the departments in the campus as the degrees are awarded on Credit Based Choice System ( CBCS ).

It is always fun and frolic !!!

how about placements in MU

My score is 44.4(BC). Hw good are the chances for me to get into PSGIM? If not will i get MU DOMS for sure?

Hi, Iam currently working in TCS and my tancet score is 43.6. I wish to do MBA either in PSG OR IN DOMS.

Also I am interested to take operations management as specialization.

I need info on whether supplychain management will also be included in operations management. Also i want to know the placement opportunities for operations management in DOMS.

Also i want to know about the hostel facilities in Doms.

@srinboss @Balaji-MU I'm a civil service aspirant preparing for preliminary exam to be held in coming August. By God's grace I got good marks in Tancet mba exam. I am in a great dilemma. Whether to take up MBA in DoMS or continue with my preparation thereby wasting my TANCET score...I would like to know the normal class hours each day pls... If i need more time for my civil service preparation will I be allowed to take a sem break?? And also will the staff morally support students preparing such exam?? And finally can u pls put me touch with any civil service aspirant student in DoMS?? Thanks a lot 😃
