Here is the write up So your first year starts off with a 7-day online Pre-foundation phase before college begins. This will introduce you to basic management and leadership jargons and ideas. This is followed by a 15-day Foundation phase in Ghaziabad which, as it was for us, was packed with basic management subjects like 'Business Etiquettes', a lot of alumni and some high profile guest lectures, the basic 'YES+' course. Believe you me, all of these have helped us immensely in ways of normal life, pressure handling, basic understanding and other ways which I probably cannot express. Oh, and the best part about this 15 day period is that you get to interact with your Ghaziabad peers. This is where the two batches accept each other as one. It is only another programme. You'll be divided into sections of 50 people irrespective of the programme/stream and as was the case with most of us, we had more friends from the students doing their two years in Ghaziabad than the DCP after this stage. So that should clear your apprehensions, if any, about any sort of alien treatment by your 2-year Ghaziabad peers. This phase was made specifically for that purpose. Well after this you run off to the land of the biggest, fastest and tallest. Not too many colleges in this region but the ones that are there have serious mettle for eg. SP Jain. Our college is actually on the outskirts so you'll take a few days to adjust to the distance to the city. Moving on, before I digress further with the DXB stories, the faculty of IMT Dubai turned out to be surprisingly good. The faculty has a lot of industry experience and are all well-known academicians. And they account for only about half of the faculty teaching us. The rest of the faculty for us was mostly guest faculty who would come in for a month on a visiting VISA and their courses would be a little tight with the 30-day time limit but here's the thing. We had teachers coming in from IMT-Nagpur(brilliant ones I must say), IMT-Ghaziabad(ofcourse), JNU (a renowned academician/economist), IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Kozikhode, IIFT. I should not be saying this but I felt that we do have the edge over the 2-year Ghaziabad students faculty wise though they may never accept it. But yes, you did hear this from a DCP student. About the DXB exposure, the concept of internships is sort of new to the companies in the Gulf but that hasn't stopped the college. We have placement student teams approaching companies there and I'm happy to tell you that the internship opportunities in Dubai itself were more than the people willing to do it in Dubai. Other than this, we do have the option of doing our internships in India also, for which most of the people used their own contacts but the college also got in a fair amount of companies which were more than sufficient for the number of students taking that option. I think a good example of the kind of roles offered would be what I'm doing. So, I'm doing my internship with a company in Hooghly, West Bengal called Kapila Dairy & Industries (from the Kapila Pashu Aahar TV ad fame). I've to handle Animal Feed sales and develop rural marketing programmes for the same. I run around villages here. The organisation itself has been started by a IIM-Ahmedabad pass-out. The interns here other than me are 2 more people. 1 from IIM-A and the other one from IIM-K. It is a very exclusive role and not one that is offered easily just to any sort of college. So yes, DCP is right up there. Internships are extremely important because they form the basis for most of your final placement interview conversations. Keep that in mind whatever B-school you end up joining. In the name of international exposure(this point will also be raised in placement interviews), I did 2 STPs(Short Term Projects) €Ś 1 with an organisation called 'Arina Offshore' in offshore security logistics and another one in a consultancy called 'VARS Boffins' wherein we made a export monitoring report between Ecuador and UAE for the UAE government. The 2nd one was a live project in which I met the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and the GMs of Dubai and Abu Dhabi Customs and gave the final presentation at the UAE-Ecuador summit. I genuinely don't think such things are as easy to come by in India. And about the 2nd year, we'll be again spilt up into sections based on subjects and domains and so no distinction between DCP and non-DCPians. Placements this time have been really good apparently. The highest for a DCP student went to 17 lpa (Indian job) but the overall college has been seen decreasing due to the increase in batch size and thus the incapability to place such a large number. We have been assured (and we have seen this being implemented this time around also) that companies will not be allowed to keep constraints like DCPians not allowed since now even our batch is all above 92 percentile. Yes, this did happen to the first batch but that was natural since they had people with such low percentiles. In the end I'd just like to say that all your worry and apprehensions are only limited to your first job. Thereafter, you make your way. People will probably only ask you what B-school you're from. No-one will ever care to ask about DCP or not. So according to me, look at the brand-name. If you're getting a better one, GO for it! No second thoughts about it. But I seriously doubt I could have achieved what I have in the first year itself from probably a FORE or IMI or Symbi. Sorry for the long-ass short-handed mail. Do shoot-in for any clarifications or anything that wasn't clear or did not make sense.
Ps: That's a reply i got from a passout of imt dcp regarding the course. Sure a bit of it would be cooked up but i feel 80-90% is right! So just a lil heads up of what is to come ahead or those planning it. 😛
Got an offer for the dcp program. If I pay the admission fees now to reserve a seat in dcp, would I still be eligible to receive an offer for the regular pgdm course at imt-g ?
