  1. New Solar Lighting Device Surya Jyoti Launched
  1. Union Government has recently launched a low cost micro solar device called Surya Jyoti to provide a reliable access to electricity to the people of urban and rural region.
  2. The department of Science & Technology developed this device.
  3. The device has the capacity to save around 1750 million units of energy while adopted to around 10 million houses.
  4. This form of clean energy will help us to reduce about 12.5 million ton of CO2 equivalent.

  1. Recommendations of 14th Finance Commision on fiscal deficit approved.
  1. The Recommendations on Fiscal Deficit Targets and Additional Fiscal Deficit to States made by the 14th Finance commission received a green signal from the Union government.
  2. 3% of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is approved as the fiscal deficit threshold limit.
  3. The 14th Finance Commission provided additional margin of 0.5% over and above the normal limit of 3% in any year to the state which has a favourable debt-GSPD ratio & interest payments revenue ratio in the previous two years.
  4. The States will not get any benefit of additional borrowings for 2015-16 as the year is already completed.
  5. States have the option of availing any unutilised fiscal amount only in the following year but within the FCC award period.
  6. The unutilized fiscal space as compared to fiscal deficit limit of 3% of GSPD will be reckoned to calculate the unutilized borrowing space.

  1. Oil PSUs allowed to have independent crude import policy
  1. With an aim to improve the operational efficiency, central government has approved the independent crude import policy for Public sector oil companies on their commercial requirements.
  2. This decision will replace the current crude import policy and provide the oil companies with independent, efficient & flexible policies of their own.
  3. The current policy was approved in 1979 by which the companies like Indian Oil Corporation was allowed to source crude only from national companies of oil producing nations.
  4. With the new policy the contract to import oil will be extended to the major oil companies across the globe.
  5. In 2001, union government has conferred substantial powers to Maharatna & Navratna companies to grant autonomy in various operational, financial and investment matters.

  1. National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps & Fan Programme launched
  1. Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy has launched two schemes in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
  2. National Energy Efficient Agricultural Pumps Programme will benefit farmers with five star rated new energy efficient agricultural pumps. These pumps will help saving about 30% energy by 2019.
  3. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) of Andhra Pradesh has launched the National Energy Efficiency Fan Program as a joint venture with PSUs under the Union ministry of power.
  4. It will provide the energy efficient ceiling fans which will help to save about 700/- rupees per year by saving energy.

  1. OROP received ex facto approval from Union Government
  1. One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme received ex facto approval from union government.
  2. The implementation of OROP will be effective from 1st July, 2014. It will enhance the pension for the pensioners/ family pensioners of Defence Forces.
  3. Pension will be re-fixed for pre 1st July 2014 pensioners retiring in the same rank and with the same length of service as the average of minimum and maximum pension drawn by the retirees in the year 2013.
  4. The family of pensioners including war widows and disabled pensioners will also be benefitted with OROP.
  1. Funding of exports to Iran through Export Development Fund of Exim Bank approved
  1. Union government gave a green signal to increase the framework agreement between Exim Bank of India and the consortium of Iranian banks led by Central Bank of Iran.
  2. This agreement was made to purchase the goods and services from India by utilizing the Export Development Fund (EDF).
  3. Under this agreement, two contracts of export of steel rails by STC & the Chabahar Port Development Project were given a nod. This agreement will promote India's export with Iran and develop the bilateral partnership between these countries.
  1. Global report on Diabetes released by WHO
  1. With a theme of 'Beat Diabetes', World health organization has released the global report on diabetes on the World Health Day.
  2. As per this report, around 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2014 compared the 108 million in 1980.
  3. In last few decades, diabetes has rapidly increased in low and middle income countries than the high income countries. It has caused around 1.5 million deaths in 2012.
  4. Most of the people affected with diabetes have the Type 2 diabetes which is also observed in adults as well as in children too.
  5. Countries across the globe are recommended to take action in line with the objectives of the WHO Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) Global Action Plan 2013 - 2020.
  6. The findings of WHO's Global Report on Diabetes is in concurrence with a study published by the Lancet journal.

  1. National Hydrology Project Approved by Union Government
  1. Union government has recently launched the National Hydrology project with a total outlay of Rs. 3679.7674 crores.
  2. The funds allotted for this project will be utilised for National Hydrology Project (NHP) and National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC).
  3. The National Hydrology project will help to gather the Hydro-meteorological data which will be stored and analysed on a real time basis. This data will be accessed by any user at the state, district or village level.
  4. This project will improve the forecasting of flood from 1 day to at least 3 days, assessing the surface and groundwater resources in river basin, reservoir operations through seasonal yield forecast, drought management , designing the SW & GW structures, interlinking of rivers & fulfilling the objectives of Digital India.
  1. National Summit on Family Planning was concluded in Delhi.
  1. With the theme 'New Choices, New horizons', National Summit of Family planning was concluded in New Delhi by Union health and Family Welfare Minister.
  2. The summit finalized a 360 degree information, education and communication (IEC) plan for enhanced awareness regarding various issues surrounding family planning in the country.
  3. It also launched the new packaging for contraceptive Nirodh, Techno Managerial guidelines for injectable contraceptives & a mobile app for Mission Indradhanush.
  4. In this summit, Amitabh Bachchan was also appointed as the brand ambassador and anchor for the new IEC campaign.
  5. Tamil Nadu state was awarded for its efforts towards postpartum sterilization, Madhya Pradesh state was awarded for its contribution towards PPIUCD services. Awards for Male Sterilization and female sterilization were received by Bihar & Himachal Pradesh respectively.

  1. Yonex Sunrise India Open Badminton title 2016 was bagged by Japanese player Kento Momota in Male category & Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon in the female category.
  2. Gideon Markus Fernaldi and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia received the Men's doubles titles whereas Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi of Japan emerged victorious in women's doubles.
  3. The mixed doubles title was grabbed by Chinese pair of Kai Lu and Huang Yaqiong.

  1. Rocket Internet's Online furniture platform FabFurnish was acquired by Future Group for 20 crore Rupees. It is the Future Group's first ever acquisition of an e-commerce portal.
  2. The Future Group will bring its furniture business under the FabFurnish brand making it the biggest home furnishing and decor business in India.
  3. Future Group is a private Indian company in the indian retail and fashion sector associated with popular supermarket chains like Big Bazaar, Food Bazaar & lifestyle stores like Brand Factory.

  1. Supermassive Black Hole discovered by NASA
  1. A supermassive black hole weighing around 17 million times to the weight of Sun is discovered by the astronomers of NASA in the centre of a galaxy situated in sparsely populated area of the universe.
  2. This supersized black hole is situated in the centre of a massive elliptical galaxy called NGC 1600. This black hole is about 200 million light years from earth in the direction of constellation Eridanus.
  3. It has the capacity to push away around 40 billion stars like our sun which is comparable to eject the entire disk of our Milky Way galaxy.
  4. This discovery was published in the journal 'Nature'.

  1. Amitabh Coomar is appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Logistics firm GoJavas.
  2. He was appointed after the former Chief Operating Officer left the company.
  3. Amitabh Coomar has previously served in the Indian Army for around 12 years. He also worked as a Divisional Manager, Brand Marketing, at ITC, Kolkata.

  1. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has launched the book authored by Emraan Hashmi called 'The Kiss of Life: How a superhero and my son defeated cancer'.
  2. The book talks about the times in Emraan Hashmi's life when his six year old son Ayaan fought with cancer and succeeded.
  3. Emraan Hashmi has co authored this book with Bilal Siddique. The book is published by Penguin India in three different languages.

  1. The leader of Democratic Party of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci has recently sworn as country's president.
  2. He was elected for this post on 26th february 2016 and succeeded the previous president of the country, Atifete Jahjaga.
  3. He was the first ever prime minister of Kosovo & later foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in Isa Mustafa's government.
  4. Hashim Thaci was the one who declared Kosovo's independence from Serbia in 2008.

  1. Nguyen Xuan Phuc will become the country's 8th prime minister after the approval of National Assembly of Vietnam.
  2. He will succeed Nguyen Tan Dung who was removed from his office on 6th April, 2016 after completing his two terms as country's Prime Minister.
  3. Phuc had served the country as its Deputy Prime Minister for five years and as governor of central province of Quang Nam.

  1. Justice Permod Kohli becomes a chairman of Central Administrative Tribunal
  1. Retired Justice Permod Kohli is selected as the chairman of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
  2. He succeeded the previous chairman Justice Syed Rafat Alam. He will be in the office of chairman for next five years or till attaining the age of 68 years, whichever is earlier.
  3. Justice Permod Kohli was previously, Advocate General of Jammu & Kashmir in December 1990. He as Judge has provided services to the High Courts of Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand and Punjab & Haryana. In 2011, he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.

  1. A copy of first edition of William Shakespeare's original 'First Folio' was found at the Mount Stuart house on the Isle of Bute on the western coast of Scotland.
  2. The book's first edition was published in 1623 A.D., seven years after Shakespeare's death.
  3. With this discovery, the number of surviving copies of First Folio in the world become 234.
  4. The book contains lays like Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Julius Caesar, As You Like It and The Tempest among others.

  1. A book called A state in Denial : Pakistan's misguided and dangerous crusade authored by eminent journalist BG Verghese was re-released in New Delhi.

  3. The book also talks about the chain of events during the battle of Kashmir, integration of Hyderabad into India, Indus water treaty.

  1. Maharaja Ranjit Singh's statue will be installed in France's Saint Tropez town on 17th September, 2016.
  2. This is the birth town of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Army General Jean-Francois Allard.
  3. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was the founder of the Sikh Empire, which came to power in the Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century.

  1. Climate Change Action Plan was adopted by World Bank
  1. The World Bank Group has adopted the Climate Change Action plan to help countries to achieve their goals decided during COP21 in Paris.
  2. This plan sets targets for countries to be achieved by 2020 in high impact areas like clean energy, green transport, climate smart agriculture and urban resilience.
  3. The share of World Bank in climate related goals will increase from 21% to 28% by 2020 due to increasing client demand. By 2020, the total financing will be around 29 billion US dollars per year.
  4. The World bank will also support countries to translate their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) climate policies and investment plans into actions.
  5. The WB will aim to mobilize 25 billion US dollars of commercial funding for clean energy over the next five years.

  1. April 2016 edition of Coca Cola World ranking was released by Federation Internationale de Football.
  2. As per these rankings, Argentinian Men's football team is at the top. Belgium has been pushed back to the second spot.
  3. India is at 162nd position which has dropped two spots down from it's previous position due to losing two world cup qualifiers game against Iran & Turkmenistan.

  1. A well known astronaut of NASA Scott Kelly will soon publish his memoirs named as 'Endurance: My Year in Space and Our Journey to Mars'.
  2. After spending almost a year on International Space Station (ISS) Scott Kelly has recently returned to Earth aboard Soyuz TMA-18M in March, 2016.
  3. This memoir will have his adventures through the year he had on International Space Station, the difficulties he faced during his journey and on ISS, his childhood and some distant memories of his life.
  4. He commanded the International Space Station on Expeditions 26, 44 and 45. By spending 340 consecutive days on ISS, he set a record for the total accumulated number of days spent in space by an American astronaut.
  5. He has a identical twin brother Mark Kelly who is also an astronaut. Scott & Mark Kelly were the only siblings to have traveled in space.

  1. A bridge to be build across Red sea by Saudi Arabia & Egypt
  1. To connect themselves by land Saudi Arabia & Egypt have agreed to build a bridge over the Red sea.
  2. The core objective of building this bridge is increase trade between these respective countries.
  3. The bridge will be named after the Saudi king as King Salman bin Abdel Aziz Bridge.

  1. North East ASEAN Business Summit concluded
  1. North East - ASEAN summit was concluded in Manipur's capital Imphal for the first time ever.
  2. Objective of this summit is to attract domestic as well as foreign investors to the North East region of India which will eventually generate employment and productivity in the region.
  3. Manipur Commerce Industries Department had organised this summit in collaboration with Union Ministries of External Affairs and Development of North - Eastern Region (DoNER), Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Indian Chamber of Service Industries (ICSI).
  4. Manipur Assembly speaker Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh presided over the summit and commerce minister of Bangladesh Tofail Ahmed was the chief guest.
  5. The summit has provided forum for investors in different sectors such as Food Processing, Horticulture, Tourism, Handloom and Handicraft, Startups, Entrepreneurship etc. to invest in the mutual development.
  1. SpaceX's Rocket landed on a floating drone ship
  1. Falcon 9 rocket was successfully launched and landed on a drone ship at sea by American aerospace company SpaceX. SpecX has landed a rocket in the ocean for the first time ever.
  2. Previously, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket had successfully landed on a ground based landing site at Cape Canaveral, Florida.
  3. Falcon 9 is made by SpaceX for safe transport of satellites & Dragon spacecraft. It is a two stage rocket.
  4. The two stage configuration of Falcon 9 minimises the separation events making it more reliable even during the engine shutdown.
  5. Falcon 9 had previously delivered Dragon spacecraft into the space in 2012 and it had also delivered a cargo to the international space station for three times yet.

  1. Uk's prestigious founder's award was posthumously conferred upon Mother Teresa. This award is given for the achievements of people within the global asian community.
  2. Mother Teresa established the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata and served needy people for almost 45 years.
  3. The award is also given in other 14 categories including business, philanthropy, entertainment, culture and sport.
  4. Rami ranger, a leading NRI entrepreneur and a major financial contributor to the Mahatma Gandhi statue received the Community Service Award. Prakash Lohia received the Business leader of the year award and outstanding achievement in cinema award was given to Asif Kapadia for a documentary titled 'Amy'.
  5. A south Korean footballer Tottenham Hotspurs received the award for his outstanding achievements in sports and the inventor of blue LED Shuji Nakamura received the outstanding achievement in Science award.
  6. These awards were launched by Paul Sagoo in 2010 who is an entrepreneur and founder of the Lemon group.

  1. The non confidential information on Genetically Modified organisms will be made public
  1. The Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) was directed by the Central Information Commission (CEC) to make public the non confidential bio safety information on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
  2. This direction by CEC is applicable to all GMOs including GM mustard variety - DMH 11. The basic objective of this direction is to bring transparency in the regulatory approval process.
  3. The GEAC has to keep all the relevant data regarding the GMOs in the public domain by 30th April, 2016.
  4. This direction was given by CEC when the GEAC refused to provide information related to the GM mustard variety DMH 11.

  1. Central Government approved Metrino Pod Taxi
  1. India's first ever Metrino pod taxi project for Gurgaon is approved by the Central government.
  2. National Highway Authority of India has already submitted a report for the proposal of Metrino pod taxi.
  3. The pilot project will be carried out in a 13km stretch from the Gurgaon-Delhi border to Badshahpur Mod on Sohna Road.
  4. It is a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system in which pods will be suspended from an overhead rail which can take up to five passengers per pod.
  5. The average speed of the pods is 60 kmph.

  1. Rajasthan Urban Land Bill, 2016 passed
  1. Rajasthan state assembly has approved Rajasthan Urban Land (Certification of Titles) Bill, 2016 which has made Rajasthan the first state in India to pass the land title bill.
  2. This bill provides a clear title to the owner and reduce the litigations in courts. By issuing a certificate of ownership, it also promises to remove the malpractices in sale and purchase of non agricultural lands in urban areas.
  3. As per this bill, an authority headed by an IAS officer will be established by the state government to verify the documents by the landowners against the records maintained by the state.

  1. Sajibu Cheiraoba celebrated in Manipur
  1. A traditional festival of Manipur Sajibu Cheiraoba was recently celebrated.
  2. This festival marks the beginning of a new year of the an ethnic group from the region known as Meiteis.
  3. Sajibu Cheiraoba is celebrated annually on the first day of Sajibu month (first day of the lunar month Sajibu (March/ April).
  4. During the festival day, people join in family feasts. They also offer their traditional dishes to their deities at the entrance of their houses.
  5. To offer prayers after the meal, people start to climb the Cheiraoching located in Chingmeirong or tops of nearby hill.
  6. At night they organise a local folk dance called as Thabal Chongba.
  1. A two member inquiry panel to probe into the jat quota stir
  1. A two member Commission of inquiry headed by the former Jammu & Kashmir High Court Chief Justice S N Jha has been constituted by the Haryana state government.
  2. The aim of this commission is to inquire the violent agitations and violation of human rights during the recent jat quota stir in the state.
  3. Former IPS officer NC Padhi is also a member of this two member commision along with Former Justice S N Jha.
  4. The commission will look into the chain of events, any possibilities of planned conspiracies and the complaints made by any individual or association.
  5. The commission will also specify the procedure for conduct of the inquiry subject to provisions of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952. The headquarters of the Commission shall be at Chandigarh.

  1. Former member of parliament C Silvera passes away
  1. C Silvera, the former Union Minister & Congress party leader recently passed away in Mizoram.
  2. He was the Union minister of state for Health & Family Welfare in 1994. He was the first Mizo in the Union Council of ministers ever in the history of Indian Parliament.
  3. Before becoming the union minister he was appointed in the Rajya Sabha for the term 1984-1990 from Mizoram. He was also the member of 9th, 10th & 11th Lok Sabha.

  1. Priyadarshini Chatterjee becomes FBB Miss India World 2016
  1. In the 53rd edition of FBB Femina India world beauty pageant, Delhi's Priyadarshini Chatterjee became the FBB Miss India World 2016.
  2. She was crowned by former Femina Miss India World 2015 winner Aditi Arya.
  3. Bangalore based Sushruthi Krishna was crowned Femina Miss India Supranational 2016 while Lucknow girl Pankhuri Gidwani became Femina Miss India Grand International 2016.
  4. Priyadarshini Chatterjee will participate in the Miss World 2016 pageant and Pankhuri Gidwani will participate in Miss Grand International Beauty Pageant.

  1. Fire accident at Puttingal temple in Kerala
  1. An unfortunate fire accident in the Puttingal Devi temple in Kerala killed at least 110 people.
  2. The fire broke out in the temple when people had gathered for the festival celebrations in the Paravur in Kollam district in Kerala.
  3. The state government of Kerala has already ordered a judicial inquiry by a retired high court Judge along with investigation of the incident by Crime branch of the Kerala state police.

  1. UNESCO Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom award conferred upon Khadija Ismayilova
  1. UNESCO/ Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom award is conferred upon veteran investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova of Azerbaijan.
  2. She will be awarded in Finland on 3rd of May 2016 on World Press Freedom Day for her outstanding contribution to press freedom in difficult circumstances.
  3. She is a freelance journalist and a contributor to the Azerbaijani service of Radio Free group.
  4. The Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom prize was established in 1997 by UNESCO's executive board to honour people or organizations who have made a significant contribution to the defence and, or promotion of press freedom in the world, and in the face of danger.
  5. The prize is founded by the Cano foundation of Colombia and Helsingin Sanomat Foundation of Finland.

  1. Japanese Badminton player Kento Momota removed from Rio Olympics
  1. Japanese Badminton player Kento Momota, the 2nd ranking badminton player in the world cannot participate in the Rio Olympics 2016.
  2. The Nippon Badminton Association banned Kento for an indefinite time after he was found associated with gambling at an illegal casino.
  3. He was the first japanese badminton player to win a World Championship Medal in Jakarta in August 2015.
  4. The Nippon association also removed Momota's team mate Kenichi Tago for guilty of placing illegal bets.

  1. Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei emerged victorious in the Malaysian Open 2016 after defeating China's Chen Long in the finals.

  1. Union Corporate Affair Ministry had exempted the Housing Finance companies from XBRL filings.
  2. This exemption was carried out after the ministry had amended the Companies Rules regarding the filing of Documents and Forms in Extensible Business Reporting Language.
  3. Banking, insurance, power sector and non-banking finance companies are already exempted from XBRL filings.
  4. XBRL filings is a worldwide standard which was developed by XBRL International Inc. It is a extensible Business Language which provides a common electronic format for business reporting.
  5. XBRL helps to communicate information between the users of financial information such as analytics, investors and regulators.

  1. Due to efforts of United Nations, a ceasefire has come into force between Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen and the Saudi-led coalition supporting government forces.
  2. The Shiite Houthi rebels had seized a large part of Yemen including its capital Sanaa in 2014.
  3. The core objective of this ceasefire is the peace talks between these two parties which are to be held in Kuwait on 18th April 2016.
  4. A large number of people are killed and displaced from the country during the beginning of this bloody battle in Yemen. United Nations Security Council had adopted the resolution 2201 which demanded the withdrawal of Houthis from government institutions of Yemen.

  1. 2% employment will be reserved in various departments in Jharkhand for meritorious sportspersons of the state.

  1. Total six agreements were signed between India & Maldives to boost the bilateral relationship between these two countries.

  5. A MoU signed to cooperate with each other in the conservation and restoration of ancient mosques and joint research and surveys in Maldives.
  6. Both the countries have also signed an MoU to cooperate with each other in the field of tourism by exchanging the information related to tourism.
  7. India and Maldives have also signed an action plan for defence cooperation between these two to boost the strategic and security interests of these two countries in the Indian ocean region.

  1. G7 Foreign minister's meet was concluded in Hiroshima on 11th April, 2016.
  2. In this meeting, Hiroshima Declaration, a joint Communique and two other statements on nonproliferation and maritime security were approved.
  3. The Hiroshima Declaration is five principles or five pillars proposed by the Japanese foreign minister Fumio Kishida at NPT review conference in April, 2015. These five principles include, transparency of nuclear force, deeper reduction of all types of nuclear weapons, common recognition of the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons, and the visit to Hiroshima and Nagasaki by political leaders and youths.
  4. A joint Communique has released in the G7 Foreign ministers meet which highlighted the descending security level in regions such as Syria, Ukraine & in North Korea. It has condemned the north Korea's nuclear tests, terrorist attacks in turkey & Belgium.

  1. A new way to forecast earthquakes discovered by Scientists.
  1. Scientists from Nanyang Technical University have discovered a new way to forecast earthquakes based on the tremors or earthquakes below a Richter scale of 2.
  2. The observation were led by Indian Origin scientist Deepa Mele Veedu which was published in scientific journal Nature.
  3. The team of scientists have also observed that the larger earthquakes are unlikely to occur following tremors or earthquakes below a Richter scale of 2 that are caused by small vibrations or slow fault movements.
  4. The findings of this team can be applied in the seismic monitoring of the area to help better forecast large earthquakes in the region.


Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport has retained the world's number 1 position for the second consecutive year in 25-40 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) category. The rankings were announced by the Airports Council International (ACI).

Mahesh Kumar Singla committee constituted to consider ST status to six communities of Assam. The committee will consult with the Government of Assam and suggest the modalities for the required reservations, of shifting the existing reservation for these communities from OBC to ST.

a. At the third season of 'NRI of the year' award function, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was granted with the Global Indian of the Year 2016 award.

b. The theme of 'NRI of the year' award 2016 is 'Contemporary Crusoes'. The NRI of the year award recognises the outstanding achievements of Indians across the globe.

c. These awards are given in 17 different categories like entrepreneur, professional, academics, arts & culture, philanthropy, special jury award, global icon of the year and India's global icon award.

d. Star Tennis player Sania Mirza was also awarded as NRI of the year award 2016. Previously, Amitabh Bachchan & Shahrukh Khan were awarded as the global Indians of the year 2014 & 2015 respectively.


2. Graphene is introduced to develop an all weather solar cell

a. Chinese researchers have successfully created an all weather solar cell which can generate electricity even during the rainy season.

b. They have used a coat of a very thin layer of wonder material Graphene to create this highly efficient dye sensitised solar cell.

c. This discovery was made by the scientists from the Ocean University of China & Yunnan Normal University was published in the science journal called 'Angewandte Chemie'.

d. During the rainy season, when the raindrop will be in the contact of Graphene, the water will become enriched in positive ions whereas graphene will be enriched in delocalised electrons. It will create a 'pseudocapacitor' which is a double layer of electrons and positively charged ions.

e. The potential difference with pseudocapacitor will help to generate voltage and current.

f. Graphene is an allotrope of carbon in the form of a two-dimensional, atomic-scale, honeycomb lattice in which one atom forms each vertex.


3. 22% growth in the Global Tiger Population

a. As per the announcements made by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) & Global Tiger Forum (GTF) the global population of tiger have increased by around 22%.

b. This has happened due to the increased support of governments, people and law enforcement agencies for this cause.

c. Previously, in 2010 the leaders of the countries with tiger populations had a meet in Russia and decided to double the tiger population of the world by 2022.

d. Recently, in New Delhi the 3rd Asian Ministerial conference on Tiger conservation took place.


4. Set of stamps issued by Royal Mail of British to mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare

a. To honour the legendary playwright William Shakespeare on his 400th birth anniversary, Royal Mail of British has issued a set of special postage stamps.

b. These stamps feature famous phrases & lines from shakespeare's plays like Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, Julius Caesar, Much Ado About Nothing and Hamlet.

c. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet, and the Bard of Avon.


5. PoochhO carpool app launched by Delhi government.

a. To help people for carpooling, Delhi government has launched a new mobile app called 'PoochhO' during the 15 day exercise of the odd even car rationing scheme.

b. Users of this app can find carpooling options within the radius of 1 - 5 km. People providing volunteer services would be required to register their vehicle numbers with the app. This will help to categorize the vehicle numbers in an odd and even manner depending upon the odd/ even day.

c. For security reasons, women with children aged up to 12 years and in school uniform have been exempted from the scheme.

d. This app is developed by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).


6. Dance Bar Bill, 2016 passed in the Maharashtra state assembly

a. Dance Bar regulation bill, 2016 is recently passed in the State assembly of Maharashtra unanimously.

b. During its hearings, the Supreme court of India have struck down two amendments with which the government of Maharashtra had banned dance bars in the state.

c. As per the bill, in case of the violation of rules, exploitation of women employees or in case of obscenity, the owner of the bar will be accountable and will be penalised with imprisonment for five years or Rs. 25,000/-

d. The timings of dance bars will be restricted from 6PM to 11.30 PM and serving of the liquor in the dance bar is completely banned.


7. Meera Borwankar appointed as Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development

a. Meera Borwankar, a Maharashtra cadre IPS officer is recently appointed as the Director General of Bureau of Police development (BPR & D). BPR & D is the consulting organization under the Centre for modernization of police force.

b. She will be on this post till 30th September, 2017 , the date of her superannuation.

c. The BPR & D was set up in 1970 with an aim to modernise the police forces.


8. Gurgaon and Mewat will soon be renamed

a. As per new recommendations made by the Haryana government, Gurgaon will be renamed as Gurugram and Mewat as Nuh.

b. The change of the name of the city of Gurgaon is due to the several recommendations made by the forum of citizens of the city. Previously in ancient ages, the city was well known as the centre of learning where Kauravas & Pandavas have learnt their lessons from Guru Dronacharya.

c. The headquarters of Mewat district is called as Nuh. It's name will be changed as per the demands of the people of the area and the elected representative.


9. Shiv Chawrasia becomes Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month of March

a. Shiv Shankar Prasad Chawrasia was honoured as the Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month for March 2016 in Sentosa, Singapore on 12th April 2016.

b. Chawrasia showed excellence by winning the third Asian tour title in the National Open, March 2016 by defeating 2015 Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Year Anirban Lahiri and Korean rising star Jeung Hun Wang by two shots.

c. Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award is one of the partnership initiatives which recognizes the outstanding efforts of Asian Tour members both at home and abroad.

d. Chawrasia, also known as Chipputtsia and Chow, is a self taught Indian professional golfer and hails from Kolkata.


10. Airtel payments bank approved by RBI

a. The first payments bank licence was granted by RBI to Airtel M Commerce Services (AMSL), a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel.

b. AMSL offers mobile services under the brand name of Airtel money. With this nod from RBI the AMSL's current pre-paid payment instrument licence will be converted into the payments banks licence.

c. As per the guidelines issued by RBI, the payment banks are established as differentiated banks with an aim to acceptance of demand deposits, remittance services, internet banking and other specified services.

d. These banks can also distribute non-risk sharing simple financial products like mutual funds and insurance products.


11.Padma Sachdev selected for Saraswati Samman 2015

a. The prestigious Saraswati Samman 2015 will be conferred upon veteran author and poet Padma Sachdev for her autobiography 'Chitt-Chete'.

b. The book is written in Dogri language and was published in 2007. It contains the various events in her life, her personal relations with eminent personas of her age etc.

c. Padma Sachdev is a well known poet in Dogri language. She has received Sahitya Academy Award in 1971 for her poetry book 'Meri Kavita Mere Geet'.

d. In year 2001, she was conferred with Padma Shri award. Madhya Pradesh government also honoured her with the Kabir Samman award in 2007-08.

e. The Saraswati Samman is an annual award for outstanding prose or poetry literary works in any 22 Indian language listed in Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India. It was instituted by K K Birla foundation in 1991.


12. Viswanathan Anand received the Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award 2016

a. Veteran Chess player, Viswanathan Anand, has received the prestigious Hridaynath Mangeshkar award by Maharashtra governor C Vidyasagar Rao during the celebrations of 25th anniversary of the Hridayesh Arts which gives these awards.
