e-RTI facility extended to President Secretariat, MEA

Expanding the reach of Right to Information (RTI) in order to bring greater transparency in governance, the Union Government of Indiahas extended the facility of e-filing of RTI applications to President and Vice-President's secretariat and Foreign Ministry among others.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which acts as nodal ministry for implementation of Right to Information Act, has unveiled a website – www.rtionline.gov.in – to facilitate e-filing of applications and payment of fees.

The facility which in its pilot stage was limited to DoPT has been extended to Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Department of Consumer Affairs and Department of Food and Public Distribution, Department of Agricultural Research & Education, Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Department of Commerce, Department of Disinvestment, Department of Public Enterprises and Ministry of Culture. The government plans to extend e-filing of RTI applications to all central ministries or departments through the website.

Note: Information related to the departments of State governments can't be filed through this mode. If filed, the application would be returned, without refund of fee amount.

India to get a loan of 255 million USD for National AIDS Control Project-IV

India has inked a loan agreement of US$ 255 million with the World Bankfor the β€œNational AIDS Control Project (NACP-IV)”.

Objective: To increase safe behaviors among high risk groups in order to contribute to India's national goal of reversal of the HIV epidemic by 2017.

Project Components: The Project has three components that include implementation at the national, State and district levels:

(i) Scaling-up Targeted Prevention Interventions; (ii) Behavior Change Communications;

Assamese music director Sher Choudhury passed away on 6 November 2013 at B. Baruah Cancer Institute in Guwahati, Assam. He was 69.

Sher Choudhury received National Award for best music director for the Gautam Bora directed film 'Wosobipo' in 1990. His first film as music director was 'Prothom Ragini', directed by late Dhiru Bhuyan, for which he received an award from EIMPA.

Sher Choudhury had also composed music for Sanjib Hazarika's national-award winning film 'Halodhar'. He gave music for award-winning films like 'Mimangsha', 'I Killed Him Sir', 'Raag Birag', 'Adajyo', 'Rongbin', 'Chakrabehu', 'Nissihido Nodi', 'Ahir-Bhairav' and 'Dwaar-The Voyage Out'.He also won best music director award for 'Raag Birag', Adajyo' and 'Nishiddho Nodi' in Assam. He composed music for several documentary films and directed the documentary 'Sound of the dying Colours' which won the best promotional national film award. He also produced several documentaries for Doordarshan.

The National Tiger Conservation Authority on 28 November 2013 approved the fifth tiger reserve of Maharashtra in Nagzira. The Nagzira tiger reserve will be developed between Bhandara and Gondia districts, which will be the home of surplus tigers of the state.The tigers, who wander outside the Tadoba reserve territory, will go in Nagzira-Navegaon tiger reserve. The Nagzira sanctuary, which was of 150 square kilometer and the Navegaon National Park, was of 130 square kilometer, which has been increased to 700 square kilometer to form a new tiger reserve. The four tiger reserves in Maharashtra are Melghat, Tadoba, Pench and Sahyadri. The state Government has issued a notification for the tiger reserve in Maharashtra. 😁
