Hi Puys,
I searched the whole portal but could not find any thread for CUHK admits '10.Thats y starting a new one.At least this would provide some insight for the future aspirants. I got the holy admit letter day before yesterday along with HKD 60000(although small) scholarship. But I am pleased with the news that CUHK crawled to WORLD 27(ft rankings). With my profile of average GMAT and a couple of years S/W exp,I never dreamt of breaking into the top 30 schools. My interview might have done the trick Puys, please pour in your views.I have contacted a couple of current Indian students there, according to whom the institute is simply awesome. So am waiting for the plunge 😃

Hello,

Congrats for the admit man!!!
Can you please post your profile?
I have also applied for CUHK...
When did you apply? How long did they take after the interview to communicate their decision?

Thanks,
Abhishek.

Hello All,

I am currently doing my MBA from CUHK. I will be happy in taking this opportunity to help prospective students with their queries.
Commenting on a profile and chances of admit is a very subjective question, therefore I would request not to pose such queries, as my replies would be of little help. General queries about the program, faculty, international partners etc are welcome.

Thanks,

Mayank

Hi Mayank,

Its nice that you are out to help ppl who dream to apply n join CUHK.

Please be kind to tell me hat about the placements after CUHK MBA and how about International students.

Do companies come to recruit and how about the placement about the past/current batch?

Thank you and looking forward to hear from you soon.

Anup

Hello Anup,

Jobs in China/Hong Kong are very much different from elsewhere. If you are looking to work in the field of consulting you need to have a good hold of Mandarin. For the finance sector its equally tough as Hong Kong being the financial hub attracts applications from all over the world. A prior work experience in finance can help you get a job in an IB or Corp. Finance, but for a newbee its very tough. This scenario is visible all across Asian B-schools, except those in India (to a certain extent).
Another fact being, that unlike Indians, not may international students look for a career switch. For example in the present class, we have students with 5 -6 years of prior work experience in finance/consulting/marketing and therefore are more likely to get a better jobs in their respective areas.

Hello Mayank,
Nice to have an alumni on board here to resolve our queries. I met the CUHK guys in an MBA tour here in Bangalore last year. I wanted to know if it makes a difference if you apply in the 3rd round/cycle as compared to the first, if it does, then how? Also in particular if you can tell us the GMAT cutoff, i know its on a case to case basis but as far as you know what would be the minimum GMAT score that has been accepted till now and do you think now that CUHK has been ranked 25th by FT this range will shoot up a bit?
thnx in advance..

Hello Amitesh,

This year I believe the GMAT range is between 620 and 770. A score of 650+ should be a safe call. Applying in the 3'rd round is more or less the same as applying in the first two rounds, unless the college has already selected the required number of candidates; in which case the chance of an admit can definitely go down. The primary reason for CUHK not featuring in the ranking since last 4 years was because it had to a greater extent stopped advertising itself. This year we had a new marketing guy and he took the initiative again. As for the increase in ranking, we expect to touch the top 15 mark next year. But then thats a speculation, it can go either ways.

Hi Samite97,
Thanks for leading us with your views.I want to get info about the post MBA scenario in the international arena. Are there any chances for the CUMBA grads to obtain employment offers internationally,if not in Hongkong/China?I heard that a couple of last year guys are placed in India despite a grilling economic scenario. Now IF the market is good, can we expect more international offers?

Hi Jayshreeh,
I too got the admit on the same day :)May I know your final call please.I am still contemplating because I learnt that HKU is a safer bet than CUHK !!I applied to HKU but didnt get any reply as of now :banghead:So am in a sort of dilemma. So when is the date of intimation/confirmation from your side that they mentioned?

Well probably HKU is, but I dont have much idea abt this...I'd have to pay the deposit by 17th February....quite early actually :((...

Congrats Jayshree on your admit to CUHK. Its a graet school and looks promising on FT. Impressesd by your peofile. Much impressed with CEH and all.

Hi Mayank,
I just want to know about the Dual degree prog.Do we have to decide and let the admin people know before joining CUHK,whether we are going definitely to dual degree?I want to do dual degree but again it all depends on the situation 😃 Or can w e decide after completin the semester there? Thanks in advance.!!

You will be applying for the Dual-Double degree after 1st year.

Dont go CUHK for Dual or Double degree. Its not at all sure as bcos only some people say may be 10% people get selected and its entirely based on your first year CGPA and Interviews with HEC-paris, MIT, UT Austin or any other schools like that.

Double degree is a Double game dont go depending on it else you will end up crying my friends.

You will study in a diffrent country with people of Chinese language, you dont know how yu wud do the exams and other cases and etc, how can you be sure that you will be in the top of the class?

I also got into such a double degree but left bcos of all this double game.

Hey friends, got this ranking from Eduniversal.com for Hong Kong Schools

1. HKUST
2. CUHK

eduniversal, the first Official Selection of business schools

Go ahead with CUHK , seems better than HKU and others as B school of CUHK is very old and reputed in Hong Kong.

Gud luck

Hi,

My Profile:

GMAT: 660
Work Ex: 4 years by the time i Join (if i get in)
2 years in accenture as software developer.. had successful tenure and moved quite fast in the ladder than moved to real estate startup, worked there for 6 months and was leading their CSR as well. After that moved to start my own social venture and continuing there as Chief Strategy officer.

Acads: Excellent
Extra curri- Good in college, after graduation was involved with CSR activities

Infact i was reliance stanford shortlist (50 candidates) but got dinged from there due to my low gmat score (i guess)

Anyway, got mail from them today saying that they have put me in "Waitlist" and that makes me more skeptical. Have no idea what is going wrong with my application coz the only weakness i have is gmat score (again i feel).... applied to only 3 schools, stan (reject), nanyang (reject) and cuhk (waitlist)..i must be doing smthing terribly wrong with my application :(((

So now have to wait till march end.. but guess its closed door for me now :(

Can any alumnus help me out undestanding the waitlist funda ?
