I did attend the information session but in Bangalore. Was a pretty informative session too. My application stats are like this:

GPA: 3.03 (Engineering)
GMAT: 770
WE: 4 at matriculation (Technology Semiconductors)

Extra-curricular: Nothing extra-ordinary but decent. Where else are you guys putting in apps?

I am looking forward to Chicago and Duke after Columbia application.
I doubt weather I will be able to do justice to more than 3 applications :)

Thats a good profile Max...where did u graduate from? and how did u traslate ur GPA to a scale of 4. Have you used the table given by Columbia. It's no rocket science that the reference table is no better than junk.

Hey, I did not convert my GPA. I graduated from DAIICT and they give grades on a scale of 4. Unfortunately though, a 3 at my institution is much higher for a similar institution in the US. Doesn't matter though.

I am looking at ISB, Chicago and Tuck right now and just maybe Darden if time permits in R1. Hopefully will not need to make any R2 applications. By the way, I will be a re-applicant to Chicago and Columbia this year.

Hi,

I am looking at Columbia for r1 as well. But have apprehensions especially at a time when the market melt down is pretty much in its prime. I fear, that the vast amount of I bankers applying to Columbia will make my app look insignificant. Plus I don't have particular interest in finance or I banking, instead want to look at Consulting options in NY. I understand that its finally my call as to whether or not I should be applying to Columbia, but would be helpful if you can give me some information especially when you are there right now.

1.Is the application pool going to explode this time around? I mean is it going to increase or is it going to be an explosion.

2. Approximately what percent of your class is from technology and how is the age distribution. Do you believe that younger applicants with 2yr and 8 months of ex at 24 are moe pevelent in Columbia these days?

3.I am looking at business/technology consulting post columbia in the likes of Delloite, Accenture ... does columbia fit in here. afterall its supposed to be much more well rounded than stern.Given this interest, do you think stern will be more competitive for me?

I work for US Database & ERP major( the easiest way of not giving my company's name and still letting everybody know:poketoungeb:)
work ex 2 right now and so 2+8months on matricluation.
GMAT 700( 95% 74%)
Not sure if I could quantify my extra carrics here.

Admitted to CBS today.

Hi maxwriter,
Congrats for your admit
please share your Interview experince with us,the journey(GMAT,Your Profile) and i would you help us know how Columbia views the applictaion..
hence i subscribe this thread..

I like to ask u one more thing does Chicago.Columbia GMAT specific and if application is not top short like acads really poor and no community services..
Your insight can really help dude..plz check ur pm too..:)

Good luck..

cheers,
ABhishek

i can talk abt the app pool and maxwriter can take it further :)

the app pool has definitely increased. but what makes you think that if ibankers apply you as a consultant hopeful wiill have a hard time? youre not competing with them, buddy - they compete amongst themselves...if anything, it will be easier for you.

tech people: there are admittedly more fin ppl than tech, but thas more to do with the app pool applying to columbia than anything to do with the adcom...i have no idea abt percentages but if you're good, they will take you :)
i am amongst the youngest in my class, i applied when i was 22 and got my admit at 23.. but then i had 3yrs of wkexp when i joined. i would say there is a fair mix of ppl, from old to young - if youre younger, you will have to prove that you have as much maturity as a 26yr old, and if you are 30 you will have to show you have as much gung-ho as a 26yr old! the avg is 26 with 5yrs exp, you can do the math..

deloitte is a HUGE recruiter, so is mckinsey's BTO practise.. all the biggies in consulting (atk, accenture, bcg, bain) recruit heavily for tech. i just went for a BCG presentation today morning where they were talking abt tech hiring. you'll be fine. :)

as for stern - i am in no position to comment, i dont attend stern :)

good luck!
