If I was the same person I was 5 months ago, I would've felt bad.

I would've felt bad looking at people converting my dream colleges and me sitting with just rejections. Plain human nature.

But today I feel happy for each person here who converted. Maybe I've grown as a person. Maybe I've just gotten attached to this community. But the envy is absent. I don't know your real names or even recognise you if we passed each other irl. But you all have made me a better human.

HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO CONVERTED. I wish I get to meet some of you, maybe as a junior in 'our' dream college. CAT'21 it is.

FOR ALL THOSE WHO DOUBT THEMSELVES,FOR ALL THOSE WHO THINKS THEY CAN'T MAKE IT. hear my story u might get MOTIVATED & even believe in GOD too

MY  CAT journey started in 2016, Back then i was GENERAL & neither iims had so much stress on acads and profile. so i chose CAT over GATE,

i scored 0%ile in my 1st AIMCAT, yeah right 0 it was, TIME has that data.  finally worked hard in 2017 my scored improved to 60%ile, finally gave my 1st CAT in 2018 scored 89%ile needless to say got rejected from every college,

year 2019- sun shined got a decent placement in deloitte.

just then MODI announced about EWS, so i applied and then i came to know   was eligible for OBC(this was a pure GOD GIFT). i left deloitte thinking with reservation OLD IIMS will be a cake walk, BOY I WAS WRONG

gave my everything scored 97.6%ile but now things have changed colleges were giving more weightage on acads and profile, (p.s i have poor 10 & 12), to add cherry on the cake corona came into the picture. GD WAT, PI started getting cancelled so were my dreams. a direct reject from every top college IIMS ,FMS NITIE,IITS ETC.

finally made into a decent college.yet i wasn't satishfied. made up my mind to give CAT once again whatever be the cost

finally with MBA i continued my CAT prep, needless to say the pressure was mind boggling i felt like a live pressure cooker

year 2020- with a single focus on  2 colleges IISC AND FMS i gave cat scored around 98.33%ile and today i finally converted IISC. IIM L and fms result are awaited.

so whatever the odds don't give up if i can come from 0 to 98.33 so can you.

NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF, ITs always dark before the DAWN eventually the sun shines and GOD smiles. and finally you can say

"ITS been a long away

from where i have began

finally made it

will tell u all about it

when i see u again "

DOMS IISC IT IS ❤❤❤❤

People who have been to B-Schools or people who know the answer; Do companies give more importance to certificates from certain websites?

P.S.: I have made this a poll to make answering convinient for everyone, but do comment if you know anything additional.

  • Yes. Certain certificates are given more importance. (Mention specifics in comments)
  • Poll Check. (Please use the skip button rather than using this option)
  • Yes. Coursera certificates are given more importance.
  • No. All certificates have equal importance as long as they are from a reputed source.

Is being in top 25%, 10% in IIMs , BLACKI overhyped?? I mean more than 50-60% fellas are coming from reservation or diversity how tough can it be actually? I have consistently done well and am a department ranker at my ug in NIT

A Story of an average Joe who made it to IIM - Kozhikode

I haven’t been much active on PG but passively followed the discussion throughout my CAT journey.
This is a tale of a General Non-Engineering Male with below-average academics (8/7/8) who made it to one of the prestigious institutes of the country.

The journey started in 2018 when I was in my final year of UG. With around 2.5 months left for CAT 2018, I started preparing for the exam. I scored a mere 80 %ile. I got no good calls and decided to take CAT 2019.
I started with listing the institutes that I wanted to get into but was disheartened to know that it would be very difficult to get a call from BLACKI (due to my below-average academics), let alone converting them. However, I started preparing for CAT 2019. I put in around 4 months of serious preparation, took around 40 mocks before the D-Day. I consistently scored 95-99 %iles in the last 10 mocks. I knew that my weakness was VARC while I was good with numbers. On the D-Day, VARC turned out to be the trickiest. It seemed like a nightmare as none of those 40 mocks even remotely resembled the VARC on the D-Day. I messed up DILR and Quants because of the ripple effect that was caused by a daunting VARC. I was completely shattered after my horrible exam, knowing that I could do better than that. I managed to score 96.66 %ile OA, got calls from CAP, converted some of the baby IIM’s.

My friends and family suggested I take baby IIM’s and start my MBA while I wasn’t content with the idea of that. I knew that it was not my day during CAT ’19 and I could’ve performed better. Even after days of thinking, taking inputs from my mentor, I wasn’t happy with the prospect of taking the baby IIM’s. So I decided not to go for it and to listen to what my heart says.

I had lost confidence and my morale was at an all-time low. My friends and family supported me a lot even though I took a choice contrary to their belief. Somehow, I gathered the courage to prepare for CAT 2020, started preparing for it in September. I took around 20 mocks and was looking forward to the D-Day.
Got the forenoon slot, didn’t sleep the entire night, and after drinking 3 cups of coffee was ready for the exam. I had learned from my mistakes and went into the centre without any preconceived notions about the paper. This year, yet again slot 1 had the trickiest VARC out the all the 3 slots but I still fared decently as I did not let anxiety take over my brain this time. The results were out and this time I scored 99.29 %ile OA. I was happy with my performance and started focusing on the interviews. IIM-K call came as a pleasant surprise as I did not expect any BLACKI call due to my average academics.

My first convert this season was SCMHRD. I didn’t convert NMIMS (a horrible interview) and was waitlisted at SIBM Pune. My K interview was scheduled in April, which was after those results. I was a little low on confidence but still, I did not lose hope and was incessantly preparing for the interview. The interview went well but I didn’t let my hopes too high due to my average profile (acads. and no resume score) which is taken into consideration during the declaration of final merit list.

I converted IIM-Shillong in the first merit list. [Fun Fact – This was the first year that I was eligible to apply for it as they had a Cap of 80% in 10th and 12th until last year].
Two days later, on 16th May, IIM-K results were out. I signed in on the portal, and it read “Congratulations, You have been selected for admission to the Post Graduate Programme 2021-23 of IIM Kozhikode.”
I was completely speechless and numb for the next two hours. I was overjoyed as I got my dream B-School, God’s Own Kampus.

My two cents for future Aspirants:
If you believe that you have it in you then no matter how difficult the prospects look, go for it. It is always preferable to try and not succeed (the worst outcome) rather than having regret of not trying in the first place your entire life.

Thank you PG family for all the support. It's been a pleasure.

Edit : Converted All CAP IIM's :)

Every poll results 😂😂

Hi guys!

First of all thank you to the wonderful PG family which litterally helped me at numerous points of time in different ways.

I have also tried my best to help the people over here, but now, I need some guidance. Hope it'd help me make my decision in some way (Note: It's not the only input I am receiving, so please feel free to comment).

By now, I have converted calls from NM Mumbai (Core), IMI-D, TAPMI, ISM-D and a few others (which are not very relevant now). I am waitlisted at IIT-Kharagpur and IIT Jodhpur. (CAT %ile: close to 93)

Now, as the results are arriving, I have been offered MBA Core from ISM-D, for which the deadline of payment is arriving soon.

I am well aware that NM is a good institution, but I also feel that given these testing times of pandemic and the impact on the placements, specially more so since many of the institutes are yet to reveal their placement figures, should I consider other factors like ROI more than other factors?

Call from IIT Kharagpur is of high importance to me, but since I am waitlisted, I might know about the conversion status only by the time last list is released, and the deadlines for other IITs are approaching.

So, with all that in mind, what would be your suggestion? Should I go ahead with securing seat at ISM-D? Or, should I consider IIT Jodhpur once the WL is clearer (which is highly probable)? Or should I consider nothing else except IIT Kharagpur?

Your experience and reasoning would help me a lot.

Imp: Criticism, taane sab welcome hain, but I hope we can reach somewhere in the discussion :)

Always a PG fam fan!

TIA

Hi Guys,

I have observed that PG community overwhelmingly supports IIMK over IIMI, whether through polls or memes.

I genuinely am stuck in making a decision between the two. What are some points that make you guys prefer IIMK (apart from the beautiful campus)? Are the placements better (though I observed the median placement is actually lower for K), more front end roles (are they significantly higher) or what?

I am an arts fresher grad, acad profile 9/9/8.5. Would I be a better fit for any particular one of them purely based on profile?

Looking forward to your responses, thanks!

 Query for ST certificate

I have an older ST Caste Certificate dated of 2003 and I have gotten admission into IIMs. Specifically for admission into IIMA, we need to get an annexure filled.

As my Caste Certificate is in the same format as the annexure, do I need to get the new annexure issued by Govt?

Also as my ST certificate is a little older, do I need to get a fresh copy issued by the Govt which is not older than 1 year.

I am asking this query because I believe caste certificate has sort of of lifetime validity unlike OBC certificates? Is this true?

Please help!!!

K convert hone pe saare 'C' se shuru hone waale saare word ko 'K' se spell krna zaruri hai?

Do we have any 'tentative' result declaration date from IIM L and FMS?

NMIMS vs Trichy  excluding constraints of fees, campus and IIM tag. Kindly give reasons too.
