Among the colleges who have released the first list and 1-2 waiting list,how is waiting list movement compared to last year?

I have been having this question for a while now.. Why do aspirants who convert the likes of IIMK/I/MDI/IIFT leave their offer and repeat CAT just for the sake of IIM ABC/XL/FMS.. I mean if you convert the latter colleges next year, then you will pass out in 2023.. And if you join one of the former colleges this year, you will pass out in 2022..nd will have one year experience by 2023.. Don't you guys think that the college brand gap can be filled with that 1 year extra that you get..?? This will save one tiresome nd dreadful CAT attempt.. I'm a fresher and don't have much knowledge..so feel free to correct me..ð

I started preparing for cat just with one thought in my mind that with this exam i will study in one of those good college where i will acquire the knowledge of Marketing, from where i will begin my career in marketing and i will be around marketing for my whole life.
I never saw placements as a major factor but college education must be good.
Later i started considering placements because i thought that whenever a college produces a good student only then the placements of a college can be good enough.
Phir ab jake me dekh rha hu ki bache post kr rhe hai me IIM K I MDI XL chod rha hu ya chod rhi hun kuki mujhe to holy Trinity chahiye. Me to usi ke layak hun.
Kuuu bhaiya tumhe MBA Colleges se quality education chahiye ya Kuch jada hi bdi companies tk phochne ka bss ek jariya.
ABC vale kya koi mantra batadenge jisse foonk ke tumhe aur jada success mil jayegi.
Bura mt man na guys pr ye placements ko hot topic unhi logo ne banaya hai jinko MBA me km aur package me jada interest hota hai.
Aur ek last baat dosto.
Mere pass sirf rohtak se call hai 98 percentile me aur me vobhi convert nhi kr paya hun. Aur shyd agr convert kr leta to join bhi kr hi leta kuki mujhe Mba me pdhna hai, Seekhna hai, placements me nhi bhagna aur agr mera yehi marketing interest sach hua na to jin companies me sb log ABC me jake join krte hai na vohi companies me rohtak ke 6 7 saal baad apni capability se join krlunga.
I don't want to hurt anyone's sentiments. I just want to pour my feelings and make to understand that please go for knowledge not for placements.Â

 Guys, given the situation of the economy of the country (and the world for that matter), would it be a wise option to pursue an MBA? I've attended a few webinars where this question was brought up, and the professionals assured the viewers that when we will be graduating in 2023, we'll be getting good placements? Is that true because I'm having second thoughts...Â

'Let me share something interesting happening at my home.   My uncle who is currently a professor in IIT Bombay tells me that the  real chaos in Maharashtra especially Pune/Mumbai will begin from  tomorrow. Due to the relentless monsoon for the next 4 months, according  to him the healthcare system will collapse. He's not a pessimist. He's  just realistic. Maharashtra is really going to be tested for its  willpower/strength. According to him all schools and colleges will  definitely be shut/partially open until February 2021.  Which brings me to the situation at home. My parents are hell bent that I  shouldn't go to NM for finance/SIBM for marketing due to so and so  reasons mentioned above. I couldn't convert IIFT. So that's out.  Assuming I don't convert XL, I am left with the New IIMs U,T,R. Which  brings me to the point will people actually consider the state situation  too? That's quite possible. For example things will quickly open in  Karnataka Kerala Rajasthan Jharkhand by lets say in 6 weeks. This is a  unique year. Waitlist logic may go for a toss and also CAT 2020 will  become ultra competitive. But if you can convert a top 15 college for  the academic year 2021-23 you are going to be like the Invincible  Windies team of 1980s. No online classes, excellent summet internships,  top class placements in 2023. Money will be flowing in the market. Covid  will exist in small traces but with a vaccine in place.   So should you go the establishment colleges in Mumbai/Pune like JB, NM,  SPJain, NITIE, SIBMP, IITB, TISS or got to the best of the new IIMs like  U, T, R or gather all your energy and attempt CAT 2020 for the  third/fourth time in my case. If I was a 2019/2020 passout I would  definitely go for CAT 2020.  A lot of uncertainty. Do share your thoughts too.  '

How common is it to switch domains after MBA? I am interested in Finance. Suppose I am not able to bag a job in finance sector and am placed in a marketing company in the final placements. How difficult would it be to switch to a finance role after experience in marketing, considering IIMs do not offer a specialization?
