You will have great discussions in classes. Thank you :)

As we all witnessed, CAT 2019 took the VARC section to another level.. Even though I used to read a lot, I found the passages too difficult to comprehend.. So can anyone suggest me some books to read during preparation, having hard-to-read language..having the level of language close to or harder than CAT 2019 passages.. That will help a lot..

NMIMS / SIBM

GUYS! INSTEAD OF BEING UPSET AND PESSIMISTIC ABOUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN!  MAIL ALL THE AUTHORITIES RIGHT FROM AICTE, UGC TO NMIMS AND SIBM ! COME ON, A LOT  OF MONEY IS STUCK!!! HOW CAN WE NOT TRY OUT LUCK IN OTHER COLLEGES  BEFORE THEY DECLARE THE LIST!!!

Hello guys,

I am currently an MBA student and will be graduating in 2021. So, I along with my friends, have created a webspace where we have initiated sharing information about brand and their strategies, their history, their campaigns and everything about them. The webspace is a month old now and we are getting a good response from Bschools and MBA grads, since this space is created keeping in mind MBA grads and soon to be MBA grads in mind. Till now, we have covered brands like Google X, Starbucks, L'oreal, Amazon Logistics, FedEx, Axe Perfumes, KFC and are planning to add almost every brand present on the planet, as we move from here.

The webspace is - http://www.thebrandhopper.com

you'll find the information very relevant to your present curicullum or in future. Even better for increasing your general knowledge. Have a look! :)

ABC results to remaining B-School results is same as Makeup is to girls. Pehle ke bina dusra katai na nikle bahar. Chahe Corona ho ya phir Modi.

*sry generalise kar diya but mann mein khayal aaya kya karein*

Considering that a certain portion of at least the First Term in almost all B schools this year would be via online medium (unless things improve overnight, which is next to impossible), shouldn't B Schools lower their Fees a notch ? I think that's the logical step if they go ahead with the online teaching medium. Opinions please

I'm going to talk about my journey at IIM Calcutta. In the light of the boys locker room incident, I'm reminded yet again of the time I spent in Joka which was literally the boys locker room - hell.

There are two types of women who are allowed to peacefully exist in Joka - the ones who act too innocent and ignore the shit and the ones who act too dumb and accept the shit in hopes of some favours and general acceptance by men.

The third kind, the ones who rebel, the ones who refused to be defined by their categories are called insane, characterless, and everything else you can imagine.

When a CEMS student Munish Jindal from IIM Calcutta molests another student abroad, he gets away with the vaguest apology mail ever. When a video of a girl while she is taking a bath in the LVH hostel is made, the authority puts in more CCTV cameras which record directly into the girls' rooms, probably because the incident wasn't creepy enough.

When a girl is harassed on her internship, the placereps make her run around for weeks before they verify her internship points.

When Ashit Pawar molested a girl at a section party, he got away with a apology mail that said they were just holding hands, whereas people said he was coerced because the girl was insane and just changing her mind the next day!

When Sh******h D***i raped a girl who was under sedatives in her own room, the administration says it is a personal matter and no one is punished.

When a faculty professor Sahadeb Sarkar regularly harasses two female workers until they complain, the female director Anju Seth says "we have to stand by our faculty we can't let the workers mobilize against us" and fires them.

What your seniors truly mean when they say "Joka culture" is essentially rape culture.

Every party is basically an event orchestrated to get girls drunk, so that one person can get a particular girl alone hit on her make out and probably do all else depending on how drunk she is. But they're smart, because these parties will be packaged as opportunities to network, make friends, meet seniors/juniors and just let out steam. But there's always an agenda.

The men of Joka will support each other even when they know what their friends have done. As will many women. Because that is what Joka teaches you. We leave no one behind, especially not the molesters!

A couple of questions for those who've done well in CAT previously - My calculation speed is pretty slow and it is evident during tests. If anyone's been in the same boat, could you suggest any material or resource to refer to which can be used for practice (and to learn faster ways to calculate maybe)? In DILR, it takes me about 10-12 mins to read through all sets and identify the order of my attempts. I generally try to read every set in as much detail as possible so that I don't miss out on key points. I've noticed that most people who've done well in CAT take much lesser time. Just wanted to know what is it then that you guys look for? Just familiarity, no. of attributes etc?

IIM Kozhikode press release : IIM's will start releasing final PGP shortlist from may 8.

AIWTSAC 2019

Coming Soon!!

I have completed - quants syllabus. VARC- ongoing, although not much concerned about it. DILR- 0 prep till now( worrying about this section ) . The problem is, I don't feel like studying for cat rn as the exam date seems to be too far away( also i am preparing for MBA enterance full time) . How to stay motivated for a long duration? I can stay motivated for a week then again get casual towards prep, then stop studying, finally pile up some regret then again motivate myself(very vicious cycle). How to keep the amount of motivation always high esp. in the long run??

Are placement and fees only the factors to be considered  while selecting a college?

  • yes, only these two
  • no- (please tell other factors in comments)

RC Practice - 7th May : Economics  (For those who may be sincerely looking for some good practice:))

According to Rubina Verma, while the Indian economy has been shifting from being predominantly agriculture employment-based to one where the employment is a mix of agriculture, manufacturing and services, the economy has largely seen a "jobless growth" between the 1980s and 2007. This jobless growth in the Indian manufacturing has been puzzling, states Sonia Bhalotra, and is in part linked to the productivity growth. The major industries that have seen growth in formal employment have been export-oriented manufacturing, software, and local services. However, states Ajit Ghose, the services-based industry has not been "particularly employment-intensive", and its rapid growth has not addressed the unemployment and under-employment problems in India – and the job needs of its growing population – between 1983 and 2010.

While new census data reveals that unemployment numbers are even direr than was previously suspected, it is not clear that the forecast for Indian entrepreneurship is equally alarming. An article in a major national newspaper suggests that the contraction in hiring at existing companies might result in more new companies being founded. College graduates, unable to find traditional jobs, instead opt to start their own businesses. Where a recession may seem an unpropitious time for such a historically risky endeavor, with no better options, would-be entrepreneurs have little to lose.

Unfortunately, this situation does not necessarily impact the economy positively. Though the average number of new businesses started per year has been higher during the recession than it was before, the proportion of high-value businesses founded each year has declined. So even if a business manages to stay solvent, it may not bring significant returns. Also, because of an inevitable dearth of angel investors and venture capitalists, many new entrepreneurs are putting their own money on the line. In certain ways, the choice between accepting a traditional job and starting a business is not unlike the choice between renting and buying property. The latter requires a significant initial outlay and carries heavier risks, but sure the rewards can be equally substantial.

1. The primary purpose of the passage is to

(A) maintain that college students should form their own companies, especially during economic recessions

(B) argue that the Indian economy in the past has registered jobless growth

(C) present a nuanced view of a contemporary economic issue

(D) evaluate the viability of low-versus high-value businesses under various environmental conditions

2. According to the passage, that many college graduates are choosing to launch their own companies in the present economic climate leads from

(A) the difficulty in finding outside (angel) investors

(B) the difficulty in landing positions typically open to workers of their experience

(C) an increase in the prevalence of low-value companies

(D) forecasts of the unemployment rates likely becoming less dire in coming years

3. It can be inferred from the passage that over the course of the recent recession, the number of Indian high-value businesses founded per year

(A) has fallen sharply

(B) has fallen moderately

(C) has risen sharply

(D) may have either fallen or risen

4. According to Sonia Bhalotra, the jobless growth in the Indian manufacturing sector

(A) has been consistent with decline in productivity

(B) has resulted in growth in productivity

(C) can be attributed to a growth in productivity

(D) has been accompanied with a decline in growth rate of productivity

5. The author’s attitude towards the choice of starting a business over accepting a traditional job can best be regarded as

(A) scepticism

(B) guarded encouragement

(C) dissuasion

(D) enthusiasm
