IMT G Interview experience (Spoiler: too long) Last in the panel (FML ๐Ÿ˜ญ) Panel consisting of 1 Male prof (M), 1 Female prof (F) and 1 alum (A) *Entered and greeted them with a smile* F: So last one eh? Must've come to know all that havel been asked before. So did you find any pattern in the questions? Me: *Smiling* No ma'am. I spoke to only 2-3 people and there was no pattern as such All of them together smiling: let's begin! A: So you've mentioned you've played football at various levels and are an expert at it. So which is your favourite football team? Me: Manchester United, sir. A: Okay. So tell me, who are the Busby babes? Me: *eyes lit up* Gave full account of who they were along with Munich Air Disaster with exact dates and description. A: So when was Manchester United founded? *Another free hit* Me: 1870s sir, 1878 if I'm not wrong. (Turns out this was bang exact!)said it was earlier known as Newton Heath. A: How many PL titles have Manchester United won? Me: 20 sir. The last being in 2013. A: what's the latest news this morning about football? About Man City Me: Told about how they have been banned for 2 years due to FFP. Was asked to elaborate on FFP which I could. A: so talking about FFP, do you know what is amortization? Me: No sir A: but you have finance as your second preference. Me: Diverted it by saying that I am not sure what I want to major in and so the PGDM (full time) is perfect for me as it will give me a chance to chose specialisation after a year. Panel nodded. A: So you are an EE engineer, do you know about the armadon scandal(or something like that, if someone knows please comment!)Which firm was guilty of not properly auditing it? Me: *blank* Don't know sir A and M astonished. Took some names like Rebecca or Jessica while I'm still blank. Then say it was PWC to which I nodded and said yeah they were fined for it and all (Have no idea honestly ๐Ÿ˜‚) M: so which is your dream company? Me: No dream company as such, just want to take on roles where I have more responsibility. M: What do you mean by that? Is there any role which does not have any responsibility! All roles have responsibility. Have you heard of anyone not being responsible for something in a company? I would love to have a job with no responsibilities (A and M laughed, I smiled) Me: Tried to explain what I meant by added responsibility but M wasn't convinced. Said it's a vague answer. A: So where would you like to work after 2 years of MBA? Me: Trying not to be vague this time. Consulting or product management, sir. A: So tell me do you know what are the big 4? Why are they known as that? Me: Explained who they are and why they are called so. M: So do you know about footballers from past? Me: yes. Cited beckenbauer. M: so which country is famous for Total Football? (Didn't know this) Me. Is it Brazil? Can you give a hint? M: its a European team. Then he said it's Netherlands. Do you know any of their star players? Me: Yes! Johan Cryuff. M: which team did he play for? Me: Barcelona. M: I meant in Netherlands. Me: Oh. Was it PSV? Oh no no. Sorry. It was Ajax. They even have their stadium named after him! M nodded with a smile. F begins now. F: so do you read any newspapers about economics? Tell me about some latest happenings in business world Me: Told about Vodafone Idea facing losses, govt not ready to help and they might have to raise equity to stay alive F: why do you think are they facing losses? Do you think any body will fund them? What are other telecom providers of yester years? Me: Told about role of Jio in disrupting telecom and contributing to Vodafones failure. How they built customer base and captured market. Cited examples of aircel, bsnl, dolphin by mtnl as previous operators. F: Okay do you know about ILFS scandal? Why did it happen? Me: Guessing. Was it due to Bad loans? F: you tell me, you are not supposed to ask questions ๐Ÿ˜‚ was it a liquidity issue or solvency issue? Which firm did not properly audit in that? Me: Again guessing. It was EY maybe. Took a min to think and said I don't know ma'am. (It's PWC and KPMG apparently) F: Okay we are done. Thank you. Don't know what to make of it tbh. Felt that the footballing aspect was okay but GK let me down big time and might have killed off all the chances. Would appreciate feedback for improvement!

cap 2020 ,kolkata WAT- management education is changing india in a profound manner PI- from what is public administration to what books i read and why everybody is intent on reading khaled hosseni. Said i have also read the tatas: how a family built a business and a nation. Most of the times they were just laughing at whatever i said and confusing me with why mba. It felt like a conversation more than an interview and i dont know what to make of it. I was the last in my panel with three boys before me but they called me before them. Any inputs people?

15th feb. IMT PI, Ghaziabad

Me (entered, sat and started to breathe)

Sir - so I'm seeing u're from NSIT. Why the low acads?

Me - when I joined NSIT, I was interested in the practical side of things but the structure was very theorical (real reason is something else but a senior suggested to try this for experiment sake)....doesnt work, too cliched and the panelist immediately springed up and said 'ooooooh so you're a practical guy?

Me - yes

Sir - okay !! (smiling as if the cllg doubled his paycheck)

Sir - say there's a nuclear explosion in Delhi. Will there be a sound?

Me (shell-shocked) - ah...I'm not sure, wait, yes sound will be generated as a result of the explosion.

Sir - no, no I'm not talking about environmental destruction sound, will the explosion itself make sound?

Me (remembered that nuke explosions are supersonic in nature so inaudible to humans) - (thinking)

Sir - go and Google it, it's interesting.

Me - okay (silly mistake coz it's silent only till a certain large radius but can be heard beyond that)

Sir - sooo, let's start with some practical questions. Was there a microprocessor subject in ur btech?

Me - yes

Sir - so are we in the semiconductor age or the microprocessor age?

Me - we're in both

Sir - so when were the vacuum tubes mainstream?

Me - around 40's. Then by 50's/60's we had the transistor roll out

Sir - and how has the tech. progressed in terms of scale?

Me (you're gonna get an earful now) - industry and evolution followed Gordon's law and no. of transistors kept on inc. exponentially to the point where we're rapidly approaching an upper limit where the individual transistors are so close to each other on chip that second order effects are coming into play and hence the research efforts in quantum transistors and d-wave computing (I hv very cursory knowledge about d-wave but threw it so that the panelist understands the hierarchy wrt to electronics knowledge b/w me and him and backs off XD)

Sir - what will happen if I take iodine in my hand?

Me (confused expression due to gear shift from phy. to chem.) - I guess nothing will happen

Sir - sure? You must have had iodine labs at NSIT

Me (mental LOL'ing) - sir I did btech in instrumentation not chemical

Sir (confused expression) - oh but must be in class XIIth ?

Me - yes

Sir - ?

Me - ?

Sir - toh btao

Me - I think nothing will happen

Sir - go and Google it

Me (mentos energies activated) - sir I am aware of betadine used as fluid/cream for injuries. It has a good amount of iodine and it is corrosive, leaves a yellow color on skin and smells like rotten fish.

Sir - yeah right, correctย

Sir - what's your weakness?

Me - at times I tend to be a perfectionist so that leads to your typical paralysis from analysis situation.

Sir - look there are many people like you in the market (engg. switching to mgmt. he meant I believe). How will you survive among then because activities need collaboration and cooperation and you might be left out due to being a perfectionist ?ย

Me (Haan toh line ke end mein khada maar karvao logon ko participation chahiye toh XD) - sir, perfectionism is a double edged sword

Sir - lol what?

Me - yes. So for example if there's a market research assignment, a perfectionist would go the extra mile and put in an extra effort to corroborate info with additional sources and reports and that could generate a better output

Sir - so you were at Wipro for 1 year, tell me (interrupted)

Me - sorry to interrupt sir but I was there for 4 months (I suspect he was checking if I'll just sit and pretend tho he could've genuinely misread the exp. too)

Sir - okay so tell me why you left so early and don't mess around since I worked there

Me - I was not open to relocation while joining so mentioned it in contract and so when they dispatched a batch for Belapur I was compelled to leave early.

Sir - thank you so much

Me - thank you sir. Shook his hand and the hand of an old prof., a sage, a visionary, a myth, a legend who was sitting besides sir and observing the one - on - one.

Me - sir the group exercise was pretty interesting. Towards the end, I wanted to pitch making Taj Mahal an integral part of indian tourism ad campaign in m.east, to try and tap into the Islamic cultural relatability

Sir - oh I see.

Me - Thank you

CAP Banglore

WAT: Management Education is changing India in a profound manner

PI: Tell us something about yourself.

2. Why MBA

3. Questions related to Work Ex

4. 3 destructive things happening in India currently?

5. Major global issue currently.

6. Opinion on CAA-NRC

7. Questions on Indian Economy and the slowdown.(tried to dodge them)

8. How would I cope up with a very different stream.

Overall, it went well. Was stuck in why MBA after engineering and as I didn,t want to stretch the economics part, I straightaway told them that I do not boast of being a economist but as an informed citizen, I know of the latest developments in the area.ย
