🐈 CAT Exam 2020-21 Preparation, Exam Dates, Results & Discussion – PaGaLGuY (Part 1)

The third attempt! - Continuation.

Slot 2:

VARC: 26A/22C. 64. I was very confident of a score not more than 50 here, but this turned out otherwise!

DILR: 22A/22C. 66. Disappointed after the exam for leaving out the easiest set, but the perfect accuracy came as a relief.

QA: 29A/27C. 80. My highest ever QA score, came at the all important day.

OA: 77A/71C. 210.

Hi,

I am a GEM with following scores :

VARC-26

DILR-62

QUANT-57

OA - 145

Xth - 87

XII th -96.7

Engg(Grad) - 8.62

I know i will not clear cutoffs in VARC for any college having sectional cutoffs :(

Any suggestions which collegescan i get with above scores?

CAT 2019 - Slot 1

Profile :- 86/84/8.8 ( Btech) , Graduated in 2019 , 4 months work ex as of right now .

VARC :- 33A/29C - 85          ....... Just when I needed it the most

DILR :-  29A/28C - 83           .......  DILR always pays its debts ( last year ka )

QA    :- 30A/26C - 76

OA    :- 92A/83C - 244

This has been the best ever 3 hour exam in my life . Left the hall with a very happy feeling after last year's fiasco . Worked out in the end .

The feeling is still sinking in .

I had bawled my eyes out after checking my scores :P .

Time for phase 2 .

The Third Attempt:

VARC : 91 . Not to overplay this, but I do feel like God now. Nothing else to say.

LRDI : 50. This showed me the importance of never giving up. Solved my final set in the last 4 minutes and marked the last option in the dying seconds. A personal best for the season in terms of raw score but very disappointed. Could have hit 100 with another set here. No matter. I did what I could.

QA: 76. I worked at this all year with great belief and great work ethic. It started paying off only towards the end. Thankful that it went well and a little sad that I did not hit 80 due to a couple of schoolboy errors. But anyway, much more than I got all season. Again, a personal season best raw score.

I can say proudly that I have worked for this. But again, I thank everyone who helped me throughout the season. It was a tough season. I have made it out with my sanity and drive intact. Phew.

On we go into the next phase. Tears will be shed.

I have something for those who have not hit the heights they thought they would.. Please read the blog below. I think you will find it worth your while.

I understand exactly how you feel, because I have been there for a long long time.

Let me know what you think in the comments or in PMs. I am fully available to help anyone who is not feeling up to the task they have to do in the future.

I end with probably my favourite quote:

If you do not think you can do it, you have no chance at all.

- Arsene Wenger

Ye itne saare 200+ scores and itne high scores dekhke lagta hai scores would increase considerably against similar percentiles of last year. Your thoughts people?

It is clear from this analysis varc and qa were tough in 1st slot and dilr in 2nd

also point to be noted it seems varc markin will drop below qa this time so 30 marks can fetch you 90 percentile(it seems from this data) .

Analysing Cracku's 2018, 2019 predictions and matching them with 2018 original results, these are my predictions for 2019

99.9%ile = 193

99.8 = 186

99.7 = 180 (Approx Cutoff for A/C for GEM+0Exp+Outstanding 10th/12th/BTech)

99.6 = 172

99.5 = 169

99.4 = 166 (Approx Cutoff for FMS for GEM+Outstanding 10th/12th)

99.3 = 164 (Approx Cutoff for K/L for GEM+0Exp+Outstanding 10th/12th/BTech)

99.2 = 161

99.1 = 159

99%ile = 157

98.5%ile = 151

98%ile = 144

Note: IIM-B has a funny 10th/12th criteria. So, you cannot get a call even at 99.9%ile if you belong to some states as their boards are too liberal in grading.

Note 2: A/C call in the ratio 1:4; KL call 1:8; FMS calls 1:10

No clue how my yesterday's post got deleted... Anyway My first and last attempt, not dissapointed at all! Profile 95/84/84 GEMF OA 244 (Slot 1) Varc 62 - coming out of the centre I didn't even expect to go past 30, quite an achievement for me Dilr 89 - silly mistakes ought to happen when you solve 4 sets in 18 mins Qa 93 - feel betrayed here, after all I did for Qa getting 3 tita wrong is heartbreaking Nevertheless, it was a great journey of a few months from start to end... Was not at all expecting anything post precat and simcat15... Pleasant surprise!

Verbal Scores CAT are random? 2017 didn't even prepare a day, no Mocks written, scored 67 ( 97 percentile) 2019 prepared for atleast few months, wrote mocks - 46 ( might be less than 90 percentile)

OA- 173 VA- 60 LRDI - 54 QA -59 General/ Female/ Fresher X/XII/B.Tech- 95/92/77.8 Chances for ABC calls?

Cutoffs of various IIMs for GEM + 0Exp + Outstanding 10th/12th/BE

IIMA - Gen = 190 seats ; Call = 1:3 => 570 candidates => GEM cutoff = 99.77 (approx)

IIM C - Gen = 230 ; Call = 1:4 => 920 candidates => GEM cutoff = 99.63

IIM L - Gen = 210 ; Call = 1:7 => 1575 candidates => GEM cutoff = 99.39

IIM K - Gen = 180 ; Call = 1:8 => 1470 candidates => GEM cutoff = 99.4

IIM I - Gen = 220 ; Call = 1:10 => 2200 candidates => GEM cutoff = 99.1

FMS - Gen = 100 ; Call = 1:10 => 1000 candidates => GEM cutoff = 99.4 (as a significant portion of 99.9x and 99.8x dont apply here)

Note: Add 0.08-0.1 to the above percentiles for safe scores as IIMs try to kick GEMs out using various methods.

Note 2: No point in making predictions on IIMB as it has funny criteria. You can get 99.95 and yet not get a call from B.

Note 3: No. of seats are calculated by taking last year's values. EWS quota will be over and above present seats.
