Let a, b, c, d be four real numbers such that a + b + c + d = 8 &ab; + ac + ad + bc + bd + cd = 12. Find the greatest possible value of d.

@Zedai We need options..we need options ... What can i say i'm a guy who needs a bargain on anything..In the words of Russel Peters.. I'm an Indian !!!P.S No Disrespect intended just that i logged in after a RP Marathon !!

sorry man, was offline from a long time. Office work

anyways, the solution is

(a^2 + b^2 + c^2 + d^2) = (a+b+c+d)^2 - 2(ab+ac+ad+bc+bd+cd) = 40
For d to be greatest, a,b,c must be least and equal. Let a = b = c = x
=> x = (8-d)/3 and 3[(8-d)/3]^2 + d^2 = 40
=> d^2 - 4d - 14 = 0
=> d(max) = 2 + 3sqrt(2)

Hey, is it true that the nmat retake will be tougher than the 1st attempt ? Also, how many days before we can retake ? Also, do we get to see the dates available for retake before paying the fee ?@raku1989@Zedai
No idea about how tough it would be in re-takes but as far as the date of re-take is concerned,you can take it on any day that is there in the list of "Available-day" in Pearson-Vue site, provided you are taking it 15 days after your 1st take.

Am not going for any re-take man, have totally lost faith in this "Online" system!
lets get to the basics, Paper-pencil style!

IIFT and XAT it is!

Thanks guys. I don't know about my XAT attempt cause its during my training. My training centre is 30kms from the city. And NMIMS gives soo much weightage to the NMAT marks (less consideration for Acads and stuff ). So, it's the best bet for me.

There is nothing like NMAT retake will be tougher than the 1st attempt. Also no need to worry about the availability of dates. Because as on today they have opened some slots in Nov last two weeks and Dec first sunday. Down the line they open the slots one by one which they have kept reserved for retakes. The only thing we have to do is to check their site regularly to make sure we get our preferred date.
@raku1989 Thank you :)

^^ Might be useful for the GK sections in various exams + GD-PI , Its actually an IAS prep website.
Guys, what is everyone upto ? When is your next exam ? How is prep ?
@seetharam7 I am into reading 😁 or rather trying to develop the habit of reading I should say... " I too had a Dream" biography of Dr.Verghese Kurian , the man behind Operation flood , AMUL , IRMA etc.. πŸ˜ƒ My next exam is XAT
@pugna @joethaliath @raku1989 Any idea where i can find calculation intensive DI like the ones in this year's NMAT ?

Also can anyone tell me how to approach the decision making problems of XAT. @Kevin88

@rohan_bhasker @Vineeth555 Chatho ?
@seetharam7 I have no idea on where to find calculation intensive DI 😞 ... i Guess the prep forums across the net should start a thread by the name " CALCULATION INTENSIVE DI " high time, considering the general trend in this year's CAT and NMAT...

So true. I decided to give a retake for NMAT. πŸ˜ƒ Did you decide between CTS and accenture ?
@seetharam7 : speed based DIs need not be essentially be attempted πŸ˜ƒ ...nmat or iift selectivity is the key.thats what i feel :)
@seetharam7 I second @pugna ...Especially in a test like NMAT, its advisable to skip those intensive DIs where you have plenty of sitters at store..But you go ahead with practicing such questions. It will make some difference at the end. :)
@raku1989 @pugna I seriously don't know how to prepare a 2nd time for NMAT. Even my LR section was tough. No matrix questions ! Very few questions from arrangements, selections etc. Just 2 questions from venn diagrams. If i wanted to be selective in that section, only CR was there

Also, have either of you given XAT before ? If yes, your experience !
@seetharam7 : i had XLRI HR call last year....xlri is the toughest exam in the country...last yr i rembr jus attempting 5-6 qns and clearing da cutoff in qa...da real hard nut is the decision making section...which is more ambiguous dan the toughest CAT RCs... it will require extensive preparation i guess..
@pugna wat will be the cutoff for ximb hr and normal pgdm... also the same for xlri ?

For my NMAT, i didnt have the option to exercise selectivity.. ellam oru smokescreen aayirunnu
@Vineeth555 Nope. Now NMAT retake, SNAP and XAT.
