Also lots of study groups have already left the CAT behind & are buzzing with activity.. be it XAT or IIFT or NMAT discussion.. why is it so silent here ?

Let me take it on myself to enliven the grup down south
...

XAT Set 1 : K1
Dr. Miller has a busy pediatric dentistry practice and she needs a skilled, reliable hygienist to keep things running smoothly. The last two people she hired were recommended by top dentists in the area,
but they each lasted less than one month. She is now in desperate need of a hygienist who can competently handle the specific challenges of her practice. Which one of the following candidates should Dr. Miller consider most seriously?

a. Marilyn has been a hygienist for fifteen years, and her current employer, who is about to retire, says she is the best in the business. The clientele she has worked with consists of some of the wealthiest and most powerful citizens in the county.
b. Lindy recently graduated at the top of her class from one of the best dental hygiene programs in the state. Prior to becoming a dental hygienist, Lindy spent two years working in a day care center.
c. James has worked as a dental hygienist for three years in a public health clinic. He is very interested in securing a position in a private dental office.
d. Kathy is an experienced and highly recommended dental hygienist who is also finishing up a degree in early childhood education, which she hopes will get her a job as a preschool teacher. She is eager to find a
job in a pediatric practice, since she has always wanted to work with children.

K2 :
Sanguine is a business process outsourcing company. The requirement of the job entails interaction with overseas clients. As correspondence with many overseas clients is carried out during the nights, it is mandatory for employees to work shifts. The company contracts cabs to pick up and drop its employees. But after a recent incident of assault of a BPO employee by a cab driver, in the capital, a majority of the female employees who form the bulk of the workforce are threatening to resign.
Which of the following would be a most practical measure to be adopted by Sanguine to counter this problem?
A. Ensure that every cab carries a group of employees with a security guard.
B. Stop recruiting female employees.
C. Train female employees in martial arts thus enabling them to defend themselves.
D. Offer attractive incentives to female employees.
E. Reserve the night shifts for men and allow female employees to work in day or evening shifts ensuring that they leave at a relatively safe hour.

Set1: C: "James has worked as a dental hygienist for three years in a public health clinic"
working in the same clinic for 3 years. That sounds quite promising! :D
Set2: A: B,C,D a straight NO!
between A and E. "E" will almost kill the male population! :D. Massive discrimination man!
A looks better. :)
@Zedai Will post the OA in the night.. giving a chance for all to answer..

Guys from now on only quote the set no: K1, K2...etc. No need to quote the entire set !!
Please try & post your explanation as the priority here is to get our mindset & thought process in the right track rather than just posting letters !!!

Also this might turn out into a gud discussion too...

Team members can post RC's , LR's , QA etc too... Don't jst stick to CR's & DM's... !!!

set no : K1 must be C since both A and D involve highly recommended candidates ( and that means attrition rate could be high referring to the previous experience of Dr. MIller) whereas option B involves a non experienced LINDY :D

K2 - A : because they cant jus rapidly cut down the working female population at night.. there may be a case that females handle the clients ๐Ÿ˜ better than males and hence this plays an important role in the productivity of the company.
@raku1989
@Zedai NMAT results are out it seems..
@Kevin88 Dude, am preparing for NMAT. Will start answering the XAT questions after 13th. :)
http://www.mbauniverse.com/article/id/6406/

XAT to have 85-95 questions excluding the 25-30 general awareness questions

NMAT

OA - 223

Quants - 91
Verbal - 55
LR - 77
@raku1989 Gr8 score buddy... u'll definitely clear OA,QA,LR...Verbal might be touch & go.. thinking abt a retake ?

@raku1989 gr8 rakesh.... any tips on how to prepare as well as on exam strategy ?

NMAT flushed away.

Quants: 80
Verbal: 60
LR: 55

OA: 195.
No chance.

@raku1989 , Congratulations man!! great score!
@Zedai oh ๐Ÿ˜ž so going for a retake ?

Congrats @zedai@raku1989

Thanks a lot guys..

@Kevin88 Ya...i dont want to risk myself this season. I may take a retake by end Dec. i feel something around 60 will be a safe score in VA.

@Zedai U still have a chance dude if the OA and LR cut off come down this year. Planning for a retake?

@dead_alive For quant and DI, get your concentration and speed right on track at that time. For LR as i mentioned earlier " Verbal and Non verbal reasoning by RS aggarwal is a must read stuff. VA will be a cake walk for voccab build guys. Others rely much on PJ, proposition and RCs.
@joethaliath @Zedai OA

K1 - B (Can't be option 'c', simple because of the fact that James does not have any experience dealing with kids.. Dr. Miller is a pediatric dentist.
Can't be option 'd' Kathy, because Dr. Miller has previous ill experiences with highly recommended dental hygienists & moreover there is a high possibility of Kathy leaving to be a preschool teacher shortly)

K2- A (Both of you got it rt- hence no explanations reqd !!! )

does nmat use some kind of normalization ....

A trader uses a weight 920 g instead of 1 kg and sells the articles at the marked price which is 15% above the cost price..Find the profit percentage...Options were:
20, 23, 25, none of these......

Onnu paranju tharuo???

let us assume the cp be
100rs for 1 kg

so, for .92 kg the price is 100 rs
therefore, for 1kg the marked price will be (100/.92)

in addition, there is a multiplying factor of1.15 (i.e 15 % above mp)

so the sp: 100/.92*1.15 = 125 rs

therefore profit= 25 %.
