Reasonably good Extra Curriculars (Quizzes mostly)Male and General Category..Haven't made the shortlist for IIM B and IIM A, presumably because of my Engg. marks. Have applied for FMS, MDI, SP Jain etc. Which colleges do i have a chance of getting a call from and of course finally converting?

Out of 3 colleges mentioned , You have the best chance in MDI. They dont consider anything other than CAT score. Last time i remember going through their Waiting list. even the candidate's percentile score was updated in the list. It was more or less a pool of 99 percentilers in the decreasing order of their score.
You will get a call from FMS also. Last year the cut off was around 98.7 something. SPJain will be quite tough since you dont have any work ex. but hope for the best.
But this 55%, 5.5 cgpa engane?? First year valla backum adicho?
Anyways work for converting FMS! Thats one hell of a college dude..And i din apply for that. My Bad
@dead_alive Congrats man!! Start working on it!!

@raku1989 actually, my CGPA is 6. But NITC has introduced this new useless CGPA to Percentage conversion whereby your percentage is (CGPA-0.5)*10 . Therefore, 55%. EC ishtapettilla. Athu kondu padichilla. Athu kondu korachu back adichu. 😁

Btw, for FMS, after the call, do they look at the CGPA?? Or is it based on the performance in the GD/PI alone?

P.S: I wouldn't have applied for FMS myself, had @pradyothcjohn not insisted i should. :D

As per my knowledge FMS give more weightage to CAT score, GD, Extempore and PIs. Least they consider acads. Keep the hopes high.
(cgpa-0.5) uh? What the hell man. I was thinking they should give some scaling factor for percentage conversion. After missing A call just because of this grad thing, i was about to call and make sure that the conversion factor is 10 itself or something else.
Salimkumar paranja poole Engaanum biriyaani kodukunundenkilooo
I do some blunders every season. I dont why i left filling FMS form. May be my pessimistic mind made me think of the competition in getting a seat in a college where only 40 odd seats are available for a general Non Delhi resident candidate.
Bdw ill be there in NITC coming monday. Kurachu Certificates oppikkanam. For SPJain interview. Prolly we can catch up if possible. Ill be meeting Anoob and Rahul there.

@ all, just a piece of advice from someone currently in the 2nd year of B-School life...

Before finalising targeting any B-school, understand what that B-School has to offer for you... you might feel that this is something very vague, but after seeing some of my batchmates as well as friends across b-schools in top 10 schools, going through some tough time, I would say, it is very importatn that you need to understand what you will be after 2 years in there.

Don't go with the rosy picture that anyone paints, coz its hardly like that anywhere...
@rebzin It will be really helpful if you can make the picture more clear. I agree on your point. But lack of knowledge/ Ignorance whatever you can call is not allowing me to foresee my profile after the MBA period. Just make your point more clear. You can take my case as an example. I would love to do my MBA in operations. the main reason being, my grad (Prod eng) and Work ex (3 years in L&T; manufacturing sector) is in line with operations and i dont want to change my stream altogether after taking a master degree.
in my point of view NITIE & SPJain offer better MBA in operations than many IIMs. So should i prefer these colleges or the IIM tag which is a lifetime once achievement.
PS : Ithuvare IIMo, SPJaino, NITIEo onnum kittiyittilla...Adhava kittiyal annu confusion adikkandallo ennu vijarichu chodichatha.
@raku1989 Will take your example itself. You are a Prod Engg with 3 year work ex in L&T;, right... now that is something like the best for a SCM guy... But be sure on what you want to do... is it in SCM itself (can be in any FMCG firm, if you are among the best, or atleast in any manufacturing firm) that you want to continue your career for a long time, or is it something like a consulting kind of thing. Depending on that the answer will change.

If you are aiming for SCM roles, I would say, NITIE is the answer. but then if its consult profile that you want to be in, then I would look no further than ABCL or XL, or maybe even SPJain/ JB... The rest, whatever be the case, IMHO, is not worth it, esp in the current economic scenario...

This answer of mine will change based on profiles that you need.

For example, if its a fin profile, that you need, then your answer again ABCL/XL or any other good college, but not NITIE...
@rebzin Ya i understand. Thanks for the piece of advice man. Definitely i will keep this thing in mind before concluding something. Bdw hows life at NITIE? If you dont mind just give us a brief overview of their selection process. What weightage they give to CAT score, profile and acads?

Not in for B

Got A.

@raku1989 Will we get through the next stage of K ?

Frankly speaking, even after two years, I still have no idea how they selected me... And even you will understand after seeing some of the characters in the school... Only one thing I can tell you, whatever you hear about any B-School, be it life in B-School, or life after it, take it with a pinch of salt...

Life over here, was chilled till last year, but lets say, my batch has taken some significant effort, in a good way, to change all that (and if you join here, you will hear about it from your seniors about 2013 batch)... Anyway, we have to be the best among the best, so yup, its kind of competitive, and fun in a way... you have your parties (which is like every week - be it committees, or MAN party - Malayalee Association of NITIE)... endu sambhavichalum party undu... santoshathinu party, dukhathinum party... ini veruthe irinnalo, athinum party...

For NITIE, you should really be clear with your work-ex (for any b-school for that matter) as well as your engg project (esp for NITIE). Once you get a call from NITIE, no weightage, as far as I know is given to your scores. It all depends on how you perform that day.

I just went through a few threads plus spoke to a few seniors. The big IIMs- A/B/C/L/K, just care about acads. Even if we somehow reach the PI stage, they make a mockery of us.

Felt sad reading about people's experiences. There are guys with 99.9 and joining NITIE, MDI etc. None could get/convert the top IIMs.

@rebzin I think you have taken class for me at St. Teresa's. Sunday Batch.

I am a fresher. How much will it affect my chances ?

By the way guys, one final thing, before I call it quits for the day... Don't take pressure on yourself in getting that IIM tag... Getting a IIM ABCL tag is worth it... but after that I would say, none of them are more worth than getting a XL/JB/FMS tags... NITIE/MDI are equally worth or more worth in some cases than IIM K or I... so take your decisions wisely, and don't take unnecessary pressures on the day...

K is the "THEPPmost" IIM around here. So onnum parayan pattilla. I dont have much hopes on K. Last year also i couldn clear the second stage. You may clear if you have really good acads. I just really dont understand why are they giving a first call to people above 85 percentile. They have all the details in their database from cat applications which they could have used and put a final shortlist. What new information are they asking in their personal data filling form? Chumma aale vadiyakkan!

@seetharam7 Yup, have taken a few classes in St. Teresa's before some students of mine complained that I was way too above their standards... So was moved to only a special batch...

Can you be more specific regarding the calls as well as your academic profile... also one more thing, even if I can give you an idea, what happens on that day is the most important...

QA 99.22
VA 98.12
OA 99.56
Xth 91.2
XIIth 83.6
BTech 84.6

@seetharam7 After seeing your profile, I really cannot understand what are you afraid off??? And which University did you get your BTech from...

Anyway, I don't think you will have any issues, in any of the B-Schools. (except maybe B & K)... I really cannot see why you are so afraid, and most places, being a fresher is actually a good thing... You have the flexibility to move across streams, and convincing companies also regarding that...
