For example, your questions could be about

a) What kind of preparation is required at the last moment?
b) General tips to ease nervousness, how to write mocks during the last few days
c) Giving strategies on how to score maximum while writing the paper.

So if you have any questions on the above topics, post them here and get them answered by multiple IIM Kozhikode students to get a rich perspective.

To read the gyaan shared in last year's helpline, see this thread.

Ask on! All the best to everyone!

PS - it would be nice if you first went through the thread and see if your question has already been asked by someone. Why ask again something that has already been answered?

Cheers,
Apurv

Can you please elaborate, what will be the selection criteria for IIM K this year?

@Apurv 10th-91
12th-80.5
grad-79.7
fresher
do i stand any chance at iimk or should i try with one or two years of workex??

Hi Apurv,

Nice to see this thread back .With a month left to go for CAT,some words of wisdom and a little motivation from the seniors who have been there and done that can make a lot of difference.

Here goes my story,I scored 97%ile in CAT 2011.Converted IMT Ghaziabad,did not join.No offence to people studying there,just a personal choice.This year,started off with my preparations from the month of June but due to tremendous pressure at my workplace,was not able to focus completely on CAT,was also made to work on weekends,preparations became completely erratic and I was not even able to enrol for a mock series due to a lack of time. Started taking the mocks after half of them were over,started off with a 85%ile then the scores started steadily increasing and now I have managed to hit a 97%ile mark in mocks,will try to increase on that too in the remainder of the mocks.My luck seems good at the moment as my project will get scrapped and I will get exactly one month of free time before CAT,that is if they do not allocate me into another project.What should be my preparation strategy be for this one month of time and How can I keep myself motivated for this timespan? What is the best method to utilize the maximum amount of time ,at the same time keep myself completely focused and motivated ?

PS-

X-84%
XII-92%
B Tech- 78.6%

Work Ex - 1 Year in TCS.

(I know I don't stand a chance in IIMK )

Thanks,
Mrinal

Can anyone tell me what percentage in 12th AP board is good enough to fetch a call from IIM K for an NC-OBC candidate? from what i have heard is that the weightage of 10th and 12th in IIMK is higher than CAT weighatge

what should b my strategies to maximize my score while giving the exam?????

My cat date is 2nd nov....around a month to go....In english my weak point is of Grammar nd RC...the problem with RC is only with the time...suppose it has to be done in 20 mins ,but i take 30 mins....how to improve it at this stage???

In maths QA is really killing meh.....how to work on it???
@mrinaldutta1990: Now that your scores have stabilized, it is not about the luck but maintaining the tempo. Does practice make a man perfect? definitely it does.... so what you require is doing the right things things right as well improving where you have been going wrong. Yes maybe along the way you may score a bit less in one or 2 mocks, but that should be taken as a learning opportunity. re-doing a paper and analyzing the paper gives a lot of insights, about things you do not know, things where you are repeatedly making mistakes.
The only thing to remember is not to get bogged down due to a low score here and there, cos it can be bettered by proper and more focused practice.
One very important thing is that we analyze the mistakes that we make in a mock and learn. Re-attempting the entire paper without any time limit and then focusing on the solution help us to learn new concepts- concepts we are unaware of and concepts which improves the paper solving ability, check places where we are going wrong.

The last one month: Build on your strengths and try reduce your weakness.... Practice does help---> with detailed analysis it magnifies
@IIM-Kozhikode

I really don't care about scores in AIMCATs n other Tests.........I am doing good in QA.But the Main problem arises when it comes to VA section my performance is really Fluctuating,

1. First Thing i am not good in grammar thats why i never expect anything much in this area.......
2. practicing only LR , RC , PC and PJs
3. LR is going good.
4. Facing So much problem in RC, Pj and PC .....

Plz help me out ..... what should i do in these area......how i can maximize my score... :(
@IIM-Kozhikode Thanks for the help.
One more small question.What can be the optimum amount of time one can spend each day preparing for CAT.I am asking this because I have heard somewhere that stretching the preparation time does not always help.
sir i face problem in para completion .i have attempted lot of them but with accuracy 50%..i lack confidence in VA. i will take CAT in 2013.pleas give some suggestions to improve this section along with VA as a whole.i deeply aim for IIMs and therefore i aim for 99%ile.currently i am pursuing grad(eng) .please give some suggestions..plzzz..plzz
@heena7 .. You definitely stand a chance !!
Give it your best ... and pray for the rest !
@mrinaldutta1990 Take all your time that you would need to be in your best. Doesn't matter if it is 2 or 8 or 18 hours a day . What matters is your score in the exam.
Having said that, it is important to strike a balance between optimum number of hours of study and relaxing time. On an avg, 4-8 hours everyday, should be more than enough to sail you through.

hi, is it possible to get into the iim's with a second class degree? If so, what are all needed apart form a very good cat %ile?

80+ score means how much percentile(approx)?

@ac1988 said: 80+ score means how much percentile(approx)?

80+ Score in..?? :O
@ac1988 : i dont think it can be pinned down...%ile is a relavtive term u knw

My doubt:

Have been swinging lyk pendulum b/w sec 1 n sec 2:

Last yr scored 97 in sec 2 in CAT 2011 n 64 in sec1

started giving mocks: same Sec1 was horrible around 70's n sec 2 in 95-99 range

n now its flipped. Sec 1 95-99 sectional n sec2 in 70's !! :banghead:
