Hi,
I will complete my engg in metallurgy from NITK in may 2012 and interested to pursue a career in finance/economics. I have a good extra curricular profile including internships in IIMs and RBI, apart from co ordinating the e-cell activities of the institute.
however my acads are pretty weak..88% 10th
78% 12th
8.5/10 engg
since this closes out opportunities at IIMs i would like to know the possibilities for HBS 2+2 programme,MSc eco at LSE or MSc at IGIDR. I heard that xat does not take into account marks of 10th,12th?
will spending a year as a research assistant with profs at igidr or iims help?

i would like to point out some points:
1. all iims are not closed out for u.
2. if ur passing out only in may-2012, u shd aim at increasing ur cgpa to 9
3. all top col including xat (actually xlri) take into account 10th,12th etc...only weightage varies
4. look carefully at 2 points abt outside india col: 1. cost 2. mba vs ms
5. i wouldnt recommend IGIDR ...not in league of the other col ur looking at (personal opinion)
6. iims are not the only good mba col ..
thanks for the reply.is it fair to say that i have better chances at XLRI? how much does XLRI value workex?
i think xl is looking for overall profile..it wants u to bring something different to the table...not necessarily work ex or acads or extra curricular stuff..
so if u can show real unique stuff (ur interships are real good..keep em goin ) u shd get thru (given xat score and decent gd/pi)
the best thing about XL is once you get a call you have an equal chance of converting as an IITian with 90+ in 10th and 12th would have.
The profs there just want to know how good and different you are vis a vis the other candidates. any USP and how you would use it in the program ..If you can show them that you are in.
I think same is the case with IIMC and IIML also...
thanks..
how does working in operations dept of a bank compare to assisting a prof at an IIM in say corporate strategy or macroeconomics? ill have to decide between joining the prof with whom i interned as a research assistant or take up some banking job that i might get through campus placements..
any advice on HBS 2+2 or LSE Msc eco?
