Congrats.

How are you planning to finance your MBA?

Why did you choose Broad? Did you consider post-MBA jobs or you are going to take up your family bizz? btw are u from a bizz family?
Please let me know about the reasons coz i am researching programs and i do not have a particularly gud impression of post-MBA jobs in Broad!

Hi
I too have applied to Broad. Did you have any interview. The adcom has not intimated me about anythin.

Thanks, GMAT 710, Mech engg, decent acads, 44 months exp Automotive in SCM. Ya applied there for SCM.
Congrats.

thanks,
I have recieved a schroll for $12,000 which is roughly 50% of tution fees for each year. Still not clear about GA. If that gets through then I would only have to total cost would come down to $5000 per year. At present the budget is around $37,000. therefore heavily banking on GA.

My prior exp is in the area of SCM and the school has an excellent ranking in the field ( check USNEWS). I am not from a biz family. And presently working. have to arrange finances for self as i have explained above. If I get GA that shouldnt be a issue.
I have also read some discouraging comments on businessweek online abt placements though FT has placed the school on No: 1 in placements lists. Speaking to current students and others to know more about the school. If u have done some rsearch, do share the same with me.

Akshat : Applied in R2, Jan 10. Got interview call on 25th Jan and interview conducted on 10th Feb. When did u apply? if in R2 then i would advice u to speak to the admissions office. The staff is quite courteous there.

Can anyone tell me how to have multiple quotes in a single reply ?? please help.

Broad is only famous for SCM. For finance i would not recommend broad, though it is 2nd most choosen discipline at the school but there are certain drawback. MSU is not located near any major financial hub. Therefore industry interaction might not be as strong as in other schools. The jobs that will be available post MBA are primarily in Manuf companies. In Finance I-Banks do not visit the school. You would probably get a job in corporate finance.

Interview process is quite standard. Why MBA, Why Broad, Why SCM etc Go through your resume and essays. have a leadership and a team experiance ready. and have a question in end to ask. mine went for 30min.

whats yr profile?

Hi akshat,

hi

I would not personally bet my dollar on MSU, whatever the ranking says.
I would advise to stick to top 10...period.
But, well, it depends on what you want to do after MBA, of course. If you don't mind doing any job then it is okay because there are lot of guys who go back as contractors doing coding for IT companies. Needless to say, no value add. Best indicator for a school was the 2002 ranking. Seriously, if a school survived that down time then it will survive well.

If you are already working in a decent firm at a decent position in India, not like engineers doing call center jobs, then it is not worth the risk.
If you are already earning 5 lacs p.a or more and having 3 or more years of work ex then stick to top 10, may be top 15, but not beyond that.

Hi Anju

see my profile above. as for preperation get a GMAT score of 700+. If offered admission, you would definately be considered for schroll. There is no seperate form for schroll. As for essay and interview they are mostly interested in knowing about your experiances in life and your take away from the same. Team Work and Leadership are the buzzwords. A technical backgroud is preferred though not a constraint.

Hi I would agree to some extent that yes applying to schools below Top 20 is a bit risky. MSU has been ranked no: 2 in the area of Supply Chain Management for past many years. It can be termed as a specialist school. Even in 2002 it was ranked No: 2 in supply chain. Even in the downturn Indian Students did get jobs here. Therefore your criteria is partially fulfilled. Though the placements are all in manufacturing and supply chain. There are hardly any I-Banks, IT companies or consultancies. Though about 35% of the jobs last year were in corporate finance ( of manufacturing companies). Intel and IBM do come there but recruit for their manufacturing division. The school is trying hard to bring up its other brances and is getting good in Accounting and Corporate Finance. In sum I would say if Supply Chain and Manufacturing interests you than MSU is a good option.. For other branches i would advice everyone to do a thorough research.

Best of luck dude and do lotz of networking. May the force be with you.

As far as jobs in mfg and related sectors, H1-B sponsorhips are hard to get by. Play your cards well. AFAIK, IBM and Intel does not sponsor H1-B. My $.02

Hi i do not know how many alumunus or current students have you spoken to but MSU is fairly well known in the field of SCM. I have spoken to few of them and they all got H1 Sponsored by their employers. I do agree to your point that it is quite risky to do an MBA in Below 20 univ's but do not judge all the schools by the same standard. Some Schools do have strengths in a small areas.

You have strong opinions about the school and manufacturing sector in US. If you have done some research please share with the group. It would help all of us here.
