Dear Aspirants,

I wish you the best for your selection process. I'm mentioning my GD/PI experience of the last year.

21 Feb 2011
Greater Noida.

Although blazers were not a mandatory requirement, I did put on one to look more serious and professional about the business. We were taken to the seminar hall in the BIMTECH campus where we were given around 15-20 mins to write an essay. Topic was "Your attitude determines your altitude". I wrote a couple of points on how people have scaled heights by dint of their grit and will power. Examples can be quoted from history, sports, politics, etc. The basic idea is how well can one think and relate the topic to various facets of life. Paragraphing the essay is a good technique to improve clarity.

Subsequently, some were called for their GDs while some of us for PI.

There was a panel of 2 professors. The questions were pretty general. The professors were very nice as they helped me calm down. The questions were generally straight forward like 'Tell me about yourself', about my job, expectations, goals and life ambitions, strengths and weaknesses, etc.

My advice to all the aspirants is not to mug up any answers for the PI. Just do a self analysis of your life (careers, goals, strengths and weakness, etc.) and be honest in the interview. It'll help you shake off the nervousness and project a true picture of your own self. Also, it will be good if you can go through the recent happenings by reading the newspapers and periodicals.

Regd. the GD, it was a 13-member group and our topic was related to India and China. I guess, the topics were generally abstract or mostly related to the current happenings. Just keep some general rules in mind and focus on the content.

I've mentioned some of the tips for GD here : http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-and-related-discussion/71148-bimtech-admission-2012-a-4.html#post3033395

It may help !! Cheers

just a suggestion- change the name to gd/pi experience to make it clear what this thread is all about...

okay so i had my interview today..

date-11/02/2012
venue-pune
cat oa-89.22

started with the essay- a situation where you were given a huge responsibility and what u learned from that experience..

then came gd, topic-similarity between anna hazare's moment and kolaveri di ..what can u possibly "discuss" on this topic...there are barely 6-7 points, and with 6 people in 1 group, it wasnt long before all the points were over..the gd was supposed to be for 20 mins, we somehow managed to pull it for 15 mins before warping it up!all in all, a horrible gd...the other group had the topic "is democracy necessary in india", or something like that...i can speak for hours on this topic!!

then was pi- i wasnt asked a single question on my acads, or ex-curricular, or anything else..they gave me a sheet that had various caselets and was asked question on them...man they were tricky..i did manage to answer most of the questions, but it is impossible to judge from the panelist's expressions whether the answers u r giving are actually the ones they want to hear...somehow i managed to make it a point to bring to their attention that i have passed CA's IPCC examination ..they asked me why i quit ca, and tried to make me feel as if i quit ca because i wanted to do something easier..but i feel i defended myself pretty well..

overall review- the process starting almost an hour and a half late was very annoying..and the topic given to me for gd didnt make me feel any better ..pi left me with a huge question mark as i had no idea how i fared! this was my first ever real gd/pi experience, and i am afraid it didnt go as i expected it to..

ps: like i already mentioned in a previous post, wasnt asked about anything that can be considered in the misc. section..so wont i be getting any marks for that??

Academics in *Misc Means:---If you are 60% academics u will be alloted certain marks(9)
Professional Qualification,University of graduation(i guess evry1 get full marks 😃 ),Wrk-ex carry certain marks.

IN NO-WAY U WILL GET 0/25.
Its Really Tough to secure 0/25.

Today was my GD/PI session for BIMTECH
Place: Ahmedabad
Date: 12 Feb 2012
Time: 07.45 AM

Waking up early in the morning was really a task for me. Reached at 7.45 sharp. Had to wait outside for a few mins. We were let in at 8 AM. The process started with an orientation, where the panel gave us general information about BIMTECH and invited questions from students. It was a nice interaction which lasted for a good 20 mins. The entire batch of students was divided into two groups.

Since I was in Group I, I was asked to proceed for GD in another room where as students of Group II were asked to write an essay. The GD topic which was given to us was quite interesting. - Do neo liberal policies towards Global capitalist accumulation cause mass deprivation in India ?. I could see a lot of uncomfortable faces in the room and the moderator after a few mins changed the topic - Should civil society members be involved in the law making process ? The discussion lasted for a good 20-25 mins, initially inputs were given on corruption and Anna Hazare which I felt was not necessary as the question was the law making process as a whole rather than looking at just the corruption aspect of it. Anna Hazare has become the hot favorite of all students nowadays it seems, he is being dragged on matters totally irrelevant to what he is doing today. Anyways, one thing I learnt from my GD experience was an early initiative. Please do that, otherwise the group will not let you speak. Thats what I went through.

Moving on, we went back to our main room and were asked to write an essay on our career aspirations and the motive behind choosing the course and why at this time ? Essay was good without any glitches. It was a fairly reasonable topic and I think most students would have fared well. A lot of emphasis was given on English and the person who was supervising our essay session asked us to review our essay to see if there were any spelling errors, not to mention the thought process in the essay which obviously comes under evaluation.

Finally, PI- I was 8th, so I had to wait a long time before my turn. PI was ok. A lot of general questions were asked on social issues, interests, my take on the Karnataka assembly incident ( lol ) that bit was funny. Nothing on acads, they were just trying to draw opinions out of you on general matters to see what was your perspective and whether you changed your opinion or got influenced by their cross questioning.

The entire session lasted for a good 4 hours 45 mins. I dont know whether I 'll be selected or not, infact everyone in our group was not sure what happened inside. A lot of ambiguity I guess. But anyways, lets hope for the best and I wish all BIMTECH GD/PI call getters the very best of luck.

i had a question, if some1 could shed some light on it..the topics given for GD can be related to anything, and the amount of content u can get for various topics vary...a few of them are very very easy and u can speak for hours on them..then u have the other topics on which u can speak for 10-15 mins max and its extremely difficult to come up with many points..so when the candidate's performance is evaluated, is any importance given to what the topic was and the difficult topics are scrutinized not-so-strictly..
a reply from some1 from bimtech who can give me a definite answer will be really appreciated coz even many of my friends are wondering about this!

My GD/PI session for BIMTECH was yesterday..
Place: Indore
Date: 11 Feb 2012
Time: 07.45 AM

Reached at 7.30... Had to wait outside for a few mins but in the given time i did my breakfast in the canteen of the Venue !! We were let in at 8 AM. The process started with an orientation, where the panel gave us general information about BIMTECH and invited questions from students. A professional made film on Bimtech was shown to us too... It was quite a nice interaction where the faculties answered all the questions and cleared all doubts regarding placements scenario too... The whole Batch was divided into 2 groups.

I was in Group 2, First we were asked to write an essay on "Events/activities and competitions that have played a role in your self-development" in around 300 words. The essay topic to me personally was quite easy and I think I managed to write a reasonably good essay in the given time. Quite happy with it.
Then we were asked to proceed for GD in another room according to our groups. I was in group 2 and it had 8 people. The GD topic which was given to us was "Auto Expos Use women as Eye-candies". The discussion lasted for a good 15-20 mins, people talked about it as a marketing strategy, some even said its a good employment opportunity and many related things were discussed during the GD. I personally had around 6-7 entries in during the GD and contributed some valid points. All in all. The GD went above expectations too. After that we were asked to wait outside the room for the PI.

After 5-10 mins, the PI started - I was 1st, so didn't had to wait for a long time. PI was one part I was actually worried about beforehand but to my surprise and a pleasant one at that I Fared pretty well in PI too. I was asked who is the vice president of our country and wats his background. I answered correctly. Then I was asked of few more current affair topics, and gladly all of them were topics I had complete knowledge of. Then a sheet with cases were given to me. Then the faculty started asking 1 ques at a time from that sheet. The Panel then asked me some questions about Economics and some ques. related to my Work-ex were also asked. My PI lasted for around 15-20 mins and all in all I was thoroughly satisfied and elated with my PI performance.

The entire session lasted for a around 3 hours for me. I don't know whether I'll be selected or not, But I have to say I'll be extremely disappointed If i don't make it further. I am very hopeful.. Lets see what happens now !!:clap:

For GD Topic, the similarity between both the cases was "SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING" both issues were made famous via social media...

those are just 2 points..u can elaborate them and stretch them for 3-4 mins..but as it is not a "debatable" point, nothing more can be said on them ...FYI, we did mention these points..
these were the points discussed:
1-both targeted the youth.
2-social media played a crucial role.
3-marketing of both was impeccable.
4-every was talking about how they got popular in india, to which i pointed out that they had become popular WORLDWIDE
5-both were in someway trying to bring to light the plight of the people.
there may have been another point, but i just dont seem to recollect..

the only point which according to me we missed out was the fact that both glories will be short lived as people have already started moving on after KD and even hazare's moment is not getting the attention it once got!everybody introduced 1 point and we couldnt really force some1 to shut up and put forward a point which was in the mind coz we were strictly warned against causing a chaos!

now temme, how to pull this topic for 20 minutes?? :banghead::banghead:

Hey abhiroy & dhaval,
I think u guys had a wonderful gd. Just a few weeks into an MBA n u wudn't stop speaking on such topics!!

My sincere piece of advice to all aspiring candidates :
Read Newspapers !!

I know it sounds like the regular run-of-the-mill advice... but u'll find it to be ur best help.

Here's an example- Very recently i read this article on the TOI, take a look--
Juggle-Bandhi : Jug Suraiya's blog-The Times Of India

Thanks and regards,

Essay topic: which is the greatest challenge that you faced in your life and how did u overcome it? What did u leasrn from ur experience?
GD PI topic: Did Mr. Slaman Khurushi statement on 9% quota of OBC Muslic reservation violate the code of conduct in the recent ongoing UP elections?
Made some descent enteries. There were only 5 members and i was the only one speaking against it so looked as if the entire argument was happeening with me.
Interview Panalist: Finance Professor (FP), Alumini Student (AS)
FP: goodmorning.. take a seat.
me: thank you
FP: Tell me something abt urself.
me: GYAN
FP: what is ur work profile?
me: blahhhh
AS: Why MBA then?
me: GYAN
AS: suppose in ur company ur supervisor shouts at u for no reason of urs.. what will u do?
me: i would try to point out that it isnt my fault and give facts to support the idea.
AS: But he still doesnt listens and keeps on shouting at u.
me: i would listen to me then
AS: i dont think you woudl
smile.
FP: why is the the brand of Patanjali so succesfull?
me: convincing answer
FP: Why does the company make a profit of over 100 crore without any advertising.
me: because of public interferance of baba ramdev
FP: suppose u were made the marketing head of Patanjali.. how will u develop it globally?
me: same stratergy as that employed in India... increa public interferance internationally.
fp: but the company still takes a loss because of the political statements made by baba ramdev..
me: was caught off guard.. but answered something that made sense..
fp: suppose something happenes to baba ramdev.. what would happen to the company?
me: definitely take a loss.
fp: so how would u go abt have a brand dissociation of patanjali from baba ramdev..
me: i wont sir.. it is because of baba ramdev that the company is making profit.. so i would appoint a successor to baba ramdev so if god forbib, if something does happen to baba ramdev.. he would be replaced by his own successor.. intially there would be a dip in profits but as soon as people recognize the person.. there wont be any problem.
fp: baba ramdev is recognised because of his values.. dont u think u asking him to stop making political statements affect his values?
me: sir i am not asking him to change his values but just tone it down a bit. and if he want to focus on his political carrer then he has to take a dip in profits.
AS: suppose you are going to a far off place with ur family and u have a pre booked room, and that room is given to someone else.. what will u do?
me: i would request for some other room.
Fp: the hotel is 100% bokked.
me then i would ask them to take me to some other hotel and provide me accomodation there.
AS: they decline
me: I would ask to talk to the manager
FP: they decline
me: i will ask for his phone number
FP: they dont give it.
me: then i will talk to the locals and ask directions for some other hotel, spend the night there and in the morning come back and talk to the manager.
FP: wont you be angry on the receptionist.
me: no sir.. its not her fault.. she is just doing what the manager asked her to do.
FP & AS: we are done. thank you.
me: thank you sir... (PHEWWWW)

Evaluation: good experience... i thought my PI lasted for abt 40 minutes. The entire marketing stratergy for Patanjali was dicussed even thought i didnt tell them i want marketing as a specialization.
Be prepared for Situation Reasction test guys....
ATB :o:o:o:o

Had Bimtech GDPI essay..Gd went well nd essay was ok.. Pi was decent but not out of the box sort of answers like they gave me 4 case studies and asked for solutions i gave them as many solutions as possible though once they told me try to think out of the box while in others they didn't question much and accepted my answer and then also tried to get more from me.

Last question after giving the answer they said good then when i tried to explain further they in the middle of my answer said ok you may leave.and while going ut out they asked do you ahve work experience i said no....

Dont know really how it went some parts were decent some were good and some were poor.Really confused how was the PI.

Essay topic was Your career aspirations and factors resulting you to choose this course. Gd was Euro zone crisis Fiscal or trade??

In hindsight i felt i could have given better answer i played a bit safe but i maintained my cool and calmness and accepted my follies while also defended myself when required.I gave some stupid answers too which they picked upon like savages and i rectified it with courtesy as much as possible. The biggest pressure point was when they said think out of the box this answer any one who is upto date with current affairs and reads a lot would say give me something different and then they bpth were staring at me. Then the terrorist question happened is aid using satellite images trying to find out terroist camps etc. Then they pounched upon how can satellite images identify a terroist camps but isaved myself b saying intelligence bureau and bla bla..then they said good..:P So it was basically a Situation Reaction test. very few would be able to come out with super flying colours and would have their good and bad moments.

i m not good in essay writing..plz help me

I am abit scared about two things first the try to think out of the box thing which they said and while going out on my way after the handshakes they asked do you have work experience??

Dont know why they asked me this..and he was always keeping his head down and noting something down.
