Hi Pagal Guys!

This is a thread dedicated to all those aspiring for an MBA at BIM Tiruchirapalli. Please post in your GD/PI Experiences here so that it is going to be beneficial to both appearing for this year as well as the ones in the coming years.

To begin with i would like to post in my experience.

I had my GD/PI at IFMR Chennai. I was on time at the venue. First of all we had to produce all our Degree Marksheets and XAT/CAT Scorecards for the verification. I guess we were around 15 of us present there. many of the call getters probably didn't turned up. Of the ones who did were mostly from the Engineering background. 15 of us were divided into two groups of 5 and 10. I being in the 5 persons group. The group had their GD first and we, The group of 5 had PI first.

So here goes in the PI.

There were around 4 panelist. And 2 people were sitting at my back. i Really dont have any idea for what purpose they were there? The room was a big one and a typical corporate office types.

Q> So, you are from St Xavier's, how many students are there in your commerce department?

Q>How do you rate yourself among them?

Q>Please introduce yourself?

Q>Who is your favourite Tennis player? Local, National, and International Level?

Q>Have you played any local or national tournaments?

Q>Why Mahesh Bhupati is your favourite?

Q>Who is the first Tennis player from Bengal?

Q>What is your favourite subject and why?

Q>What is your second favourite subject?

Q>Why not cost? You didnt read it in your degree course?

Q>What is cost of sales?

Q>What is break even positioning?

Q>whwhat is break even analysis?

Q>What is fixed cost?

Q>What is Variable cost?

Q> What is sales?

Q>What is the difference between cost of sales and sales?

Q>What is the differnce between Commerce Ministry, Finance Ministry and Industrial Ministry?

Q>Who is the commerce minister of India?

Q>What is a Capital Account Convertibility? How will it help Indian Economy?

Q>If PAT is Rs 64000/- and tax rate is 20%, what is PBT?

Q>Who is the founder of Art of Living?

Q>What is e-commerce? Give some examples?

Q>What is the term A->B, B->C

Q>Name some online trading sites? Give some more.

Q>What is Bazee.com

Q>Who has taken over the same?

Q>What is your favourite advertisement? why?

Q>Tell us something about HLL? NAme some of its products?

Q>Since how many yrs has been LUX there? What was there offer on completion on 75yrs?

Q>Who is the founder of BATA? Name some of its brands.

Q> What is GDP and GNP?

Q>What is the difference between both?

Q>Why MBA? Why not CA?

Q>Which subjects do you want to take up as specialisation and why?

Q>Which colleges did you applied for? Why not XLRI/XIMB?

OK! You may go. Thankyou!

YA! it was scary. it lasted for about 35mins. One advice please be prepared for all you have written in your forms? they have it infront of them.

Next comes second round of Trauma- THE GD

Group of 5. It was held in the conference room so quite a formal setup.

Topic: ELECTORAL ALLIANCES- Oppurtunistic or Realistic?

1 of the panelist was there from PI.

2mins to think.
15mins to discuss
5mins for a page of summary.

Hope i did help you people. Looking for responses as well as experiences from you guys!

Lastly my XAT %ile was 99
VA 96
DI 90
QA 99

Thankyou!

Please Post in your Experiences here as it would benefit all of us and much more convinient for everybody.

AS i mentioned earlier i think i was the only person from the Commerce background. I guess the panelists were of the commerce background and they didn't asked engineers about the academics.

And to be very honest i didn't knew much about the gd topic. but taking clue from what the others i said a few things. like alliances are extremely necessary in todays political scenario since it's difficult to get majority of the votes for a single party. it mantains a balance between different people and stuff. ya it was somewhat related to coalition govt.

in pi i couldn't answer 4 of the questions. otherwise it was cool.

All the best!

rightly done dude
thats how u perform in a gd.....take clues from other peeps, only prob is like in gim they ask u to introduce the topic for 30 sec and if u have no clue ur screwed. so its cool in that way, also shows ur a listener
and the pi i am sure if u have answered well u have a very good chance dude

Thanx for that. Let's hope for the best! I think they give lots of preference to Engineers and people with IT work ex. So let's see.

anyways all the best to you for GD/PI

Hey all! First things first. Just cos BIM doesn't figure very high on anyone's wishlist, do NOT take it light. Cos the interview is pretty tough and followed my acads pretty closely. They ARE asking questions from your chosen field and they are pretty un-bluffable.

Anyways, now that gyan has rained, lemme tell you about my interview. First, I was the first guy to be there at arnd 8.00 am. Awaited the others, had breakfast nearby and finally intro'ed myself to the arrivals. A good grp of diverse ppl. All felt that BIM was their last good call and so were desperate to do well.

First to go was the verification process. Was asked to show XAT cert and marksheet of B.tech. Did so. Then asked to wait for PI and did so. This was while another grp was simultaneously going thro GD first. Finally, the call to go in comes.:crazyeye:.

I had an old man and an older man take my interview.

The first question was about my branch, it's importance and why not that! Then about myself and what values I value the most in life, what I want from others etc. Then was asked what 10 yrs from now? :robot:

Also asked 3 tech questions like diff between CAD and CNC, about CAM and CIM etc . And asked why I had low grades in my first 2 yrs of engg and better ones later on. Answered cos of army. Immediately they jump onto that and start to question me as to the diff between army and civvies. Various things about my native state(A.P) were also asked. Asked why marketing and how I would be able to fit in etc etc. And thats about it.

All in all, I felt that I had been able to impress them as a good human, but doubt my profile fit their idea of a BIM student. Nonetheless, hopes are high. Also, the NDA thing impressed them about my discipline and my quick thinking helped me escape a few awkard questions.

The GD that followed was very cool and we guys really helped each other in making points. And no body got cutoff or interrupted. A very cordial GD for the topic Braindrain:discuss the pros and cons. But after the 15 min GD, we had to write the summary and a conclusion within 3 min and 20 lines on the entire GD. Which I also did.

Thats the entire process. ATB to the guys who have it left and sorry again for not posting earlier.

Thanx for that. Let's hope for the best! I think they give lots of preference to Engineers and people with IT work ex. So let's see.

they do give majority of their preference to engineers and IT profeesionals, but u need to know that those guys are the majority applicants, and also batch profile is also considered, and that means in every batch they want some engineers, few commerce grads and so on.......in that way if there are very few commerce graduates u will have a very good chance

Yup! Hoping thats the case man!But not for the IT work-ex tho. Not a single day there! But if I can bear 4 yrs of Engg, then I can bear anything. Cheers.

Hi friends,

So people are goin throgh the final round. The posts regardin yor experience at BIM gd/pi reminded me of my experience.
Okie coming back to the topic.

Hey dream lover, it wsa very long interview for u, which shows that they mite be intrested in u and wanna to check u thoroughly. But nothing can be guranted, as my interview was of just 5 mins.
Be honest in in pi, never try to fool the panel.BIM interview panel is always very very experienced.
If u dont know anything abt the question asked in yor interview, frankly tell them that u dont know, donk make flukes.Coz normaly they derive the next questions from yor last answers.I agree that saying no to the question is difficult thing, but if u really dont know, then dont try to show that u know it.

In gd as everone says BE COOL, make an entry with some solid point. Entering in the gd for 4/5 times is enough. But donk speak anything out of the topic, speak relevant to the topic only. If u dont have clear idea abt the topic, then first listen to others, and be clear abt the topic and finaly putforth yor point of view. Most of the gd topics will be general.

Keep posting yor experience

Hey thanx a lot buddy! I hope they get interested in me but yes i really think that nothing is gauranteed. And i completely agree with you that if we dont know the answer then it's better to say 'no' than to make wild guesses. because they are much more experienced and learned than we are. as in my case i could not answer 4 questions and i said straigt forward 'Sorry Sir! i don't know'. then they told me please atleast try. but then i replied sir it's better to pass the question unless and until i'm sure about it. but then when they further insisted i tried to answer but mentioned that 'Sir i'm not very sure about that'.
i guess this was the best possible thing i could do!
Thanx A Ton Hellmutt and dreamlover....atlast someone posted thrie expiriences ..my process is on 24th at chennai.Hoping to convert this one.All the best to guyz who will appear and ATB to both of u for final results.

So we can all depend on Vikas getting our results as soon as they come out, right?

well guys, aspirants of bim i guess are pretty quite, either they are not members of pg or they are just silent spectators, but i wanna tell ya all one thing, it does not help goin thru the interview or gd experinces for ppl who r yet to attend intv because u get prepared for one thing and what they ask there is totally different.
in gim gd/pi thread i saw that all ppl where being given gd topics that was very content based and i prepared well for that but they gave an abstract topic for us "love".
also in ximb candidates where being asked a lot of hr related questions and i prepared for that again but what was asked for me was totally acads.
so what i mean is that intv experinces dont help so much, what helps is a ready for anything attitude cause thats what gives one confidence to face anything, and confidence gives ya clear thinking ability...
yes where they do help is in giving a fair amout of idea to aspirants as to if they have any chance from what seniors and other pgs wld tell them, after goin thru their posts.
so even if aspirants dont have much to share here no probs, those who wish to share can expect there wld always be peeps here,(like me), who wld be more than willing to comment

Hi All,

Had my GD/PI yesterday.

Had the Certficates verification - as soon as I entered.

Had my interview followed by GD.

Interview were mostly work related and some general Y MBA type qns.

Panel is cool and cordial.

GD Topic was "Privatisation - IS it the way out for India"

8 ppl - 15 min ... this too was cool .. everyone got time to spk ...

Overall feel much satisfied.

Hope it helps.

hi guys,

had my gd/pi today....

first gd 8 people in the group

topic: is india a real super power?

ok topic gd started like a fish market with 2 or 3 people talking simultaneously and sorted itself out after 5 min. i made 3 or 4 points. ok gd

then the pi was the shortest ever i have attended in my life.

3 panelists:y lakshman kumar, sundar and sankaran
p2: tell abt urself
blah blah
p1: tell abt ur IT work exp/ wat kjnda projects?
told abt the projects nad stuff like tat
p3:wat other institutes u have applied?
........
p3: name some products of dabur:

p2: who is the editor of business world

tats it................it was over within 5-10 minutes. i have absolutely no idea abt how i did in my gd/pi......am neither feeling satisfied nor dejected abt my gd/pi.........anyways this is my experience..........atb for other call getters

Pi was cool. All questions asked smiling ... everything answered smiling. No one in our group underwent stress interview. Mr. Shankaran seems to know absolutely everything under the sun. You maybe a rocket scientist or a cobbler. He is very likely to quiz you like an insider.

Gd was great. We actually got to a conclusion.

Lastly in our batch 12 (20 / 03 - 9:00 AM) out of 32 turned up. What about other batches?

Anytime buddy! But i'm sure there are many who havent posted there experiences just beacause they think that others will do so. I would like every body to post in their experiences so that it will help the fellow aspirants!

Anyways all the best FOR GD/PI! Keep Posting....

Regards!
