Hi Ganesan,
I am glad you want to be part of SIBM. As far as campuses at Pune and Bangalore go there are no differences in quality, also there will be a common placement effort from Pune and you need have no worry on this front too.

Pranab.

Hello! This is subadra from Chennai.
My question is not particularly related to sibm alone.
What i gathered from all that, that i read abt various colleges (sibm, simc, siib, etc.) is that they all take the snap scores for evaluation, however, each college has separate sectional cu off scores. (For eg, sibm may give 30% weightage to quants whereas simc may jus gove 25% weightage to quants).
So my doubt is this...i am going to be applying for sibm, siib as well as simc, but will be giving the same snap for all 3 colleges. Which means that there are chances that i may lose out on one of the colleges because of the fact taht the weightage differs in each college. (For eg, because am applyin for sibm, which requires a high quant score, i have to do well in that section. Whereas, say, simc may not require that. So i may be losing out over another candidate who is, say, applying ony to simc, and therefore neednt concentrate much on quants section.)
How do i prevent this from happening? It'd be great if someone could help me on this :)
Cheers

Hi Subadra,
As you are aware all our sister institutes in the Symbiosis family have different criteria for admissions. I will not be able to comment on them. The surefire way to get into the institute of your choice is to do really well in SNAP & interviews and force us to consider you :).
Best of luck.
Pranab.

I am working for an Environmental consulting company as a software engineer with focus towards environmental consulting, catering to the Government and World Bank projects at the parent organization.
About me:
EDUCATION:
B.Tech in Biotechnology from GITAM engineering college, Vizag, AP. (2006 pass out).
Summer Internship: Dept of biochemical engg,. and biotechnology, IIT Delhi (Was one of the 30 candidates who got selected from all over India)
Project done at IIT: In the field of Nanotechnology.
Papers presented:
4 papers in total in national level symposiums. (One in NIT Warangal, 1 in AUCE & 2 in JNTU) And won appreciation prizes for all.
Engineering Aggregate: 70 %
PUC: 74.5%
Class 10: 76.8 %
Extra curriculars:
Was an online gaming champ, Maintained the Department website in the college, was an active blood donor in the college.
I was much inclined towards the pharma/biotech sector and this is the reason why I have chosen Biotechnology as my branch during my engineering. But unfortunately I haven't got the break I was looking for. The absorption into the industry was not so good as it was anticipated.
So I had to set aside my thirst to pursue MS program in biotechnology though I have got decent scores in GRE and TOEFL. I was looking for a challenging career in the field of biotechnology. This is the time when I have got an offer from Infosys Technologies Limited. I have grabbed it and was given the designation as a software engineer. I was expecting soon to work on some bio-related stuff. But it took very less time for me to know that I had to bid adieu to my motherbranch.
My focus then turned towards the postgrad program in management the much revered MBA. Growth towards pharma/biotech sector was one of the reasons for myself taking this decision. That was the time when I have decided to move out of the cherished Infy. Then on, I started preparing for SNAP test to get admission into SIBM.
I joined an Environmental and urban development consulting firm as a software engineer with focus towards environmental consulting. I wanted to stay close to the bio-field as far as I could.
I was with Infosys Technologies Limited for a period of 5 months. My experience in industry including both the companies will be 13 months till December 31, 2007. I was planning for a course in SIBM that will help me in pursuing my career as a Marketing analyst in pharma/biotech sector.
I would like to know the chances of myself getting into the insti. Will this profile along with a good score in SNAP show me some light regarding the admission into SIBM?
Sorry for writing for so long.
Thanks in advance & Happy diwali sir
Respectfully
San
Hi San,
Thanks for the Diwal wishes, wish you and your family the same.
Your profile looks good but SIBM considers experience of 18 months (upto 31.12.2007) for lateral placements. If you are called for an interview after SNAP this profile will be considered.
Regards,
Pranab.

DEAR SIR,
wHAT IS THE CUTOFF (approX) FOR SIBM for getting GD calls sir. even for calling to gd do the profile matters????...
iF U don't mind can u clarify my doubt please
For a manager is Quantitative skills is reqd.?/. for instance for a HR mgr does it reqd.??. then y all b schools expect that sir?
thnks a lot
Hi,
I am glad to answer your queries. The cutoffs will vary from year to year depending on number of seats on offer as well as the performance of you students. We are offering 180 seats at Pune and 150 (not 120 as informed earlier) at Bangalore.
As far as the requirements of subjects like quants for HR students, I can only say that in this multi-functional world you really cannot be a super specialist, you have to kow a great deal of all functions eg. a marketing professional has to know a lot about economics (business environment, dollar rate and its effects etc.) while an HR professional has to crunch a lot of numbers depending on company requirements, total availability of manpower to name a few applications of quants. You can have a further discussion with us over coffee when we are there.
Best of luck,
Pranab.

Dear Sir,
I have done my Bachelors of Management Studies. I graduated in 2005 and started working with Citifinancial (as a Relationship Manager which involved sales, channel management and credit underwriting) for exactly a period of one year till Jul 2006.
Post Jul 2006 i left Citi and started assisting my father (we have a small scale business, basically involving marketing of books).
Recently i have joined Mudra Mktg Services part of Mudra Communications in their direct mktg/CRM divison as a Mgmt trainee for Brand Communications and have been working there for the past 2 months as on Oct 31st.
I would like to know if its ok to show my work experience with my father. Or should i show only my experience with the Corporate World i.e 16 mts as on Oct 31st which in case if i do would show a gap of one year.
Request your guidance on the same sir. Also a very Happy Diwali!!!
Thanks,
Rahul
