Hello Mam,
Welcome to PG....
My questions are;
1. What was the cutoff for CAT for the call from MICA last year?
2. Does MICA prefer people with relevant work exp..... I mean do you guys prefer people who have worked in the pr / advt firms?
Appreciate your help and guidance.
Sir,
1. I would like to know whether it is true that MICA emphasizes more on the VA (english) sectional marks of CAT.
2. Are there any sectional cutoffs as well? What was the QA (Maths) cutoff last year?
3. Is there any particular profile which gets preference during admission (engineers/humanities students/people with work experience/etc..)
thanks.
Welcome on board, Deval :)
I am sure all Mica aspirants will benefit greatly from this thread.
PS @Everyone posting on the thread it's Deval Ma'am and not Deval Sir 😁

Thanks Varun and all for the warm welcome :)
The cut offs change from year to year depending on A. Number of applicants to MICA and B. Their overall performance in CAT.
MICA looks at both overall and sectional cut off. Therefore it becomes important to do well in all sections.
MICA does prefer candidates with work ex. But not necessarily in PR/Advertising/event/marketing etc. We have a number of students (Current and past) with work ex in fields like IT, Steel industry and more. Work ex preference is to maintain some level of maturity and work ex-fresher perspective in class-rooms.
In MICA the ratio of work-ex to freshers in last two years has been 30-70. So freshers also have a 'good' chance!

Dear 'Satisfied-mind'
I hope my reply can give you that state of mind :)
1. OK...MICA has generally given 'slightly' higher preference to VA than the other two sections, primarily because we are a Communications Management School. But that emphasis is 'slight', not too much.
2. Sectional cut offs, yes. Maths, last year, am sorry. Don't know that one! As replied in the earlier Q, it is both sectional and overall cut off.
3. Profile, there is no preference. We look for candidates who are keen on a career in communications management, have read the brochure, have made some effort to know more about the course and have some clarity as to what it all leads to.
Currently we have a batch that has engineers, BAs, BScs, BComs, B Pharms etc. A good mix of several disciplines.
Hey Nikhil, Thanks... Will be in touch 😃

The Retail Programme is that of 15 months but now is likely to merge with the Executive Programme that will be soon announced. The Executive Programme is aimed at people with more than a certain number of years of work ex.

Sir,
i would like to know if MICA gives preference to work-ex while giving out calls for GD/PI..
my expected percentile is around 85-90...so a little worried about my chance of getting a call...i've 2.5 yrs of work-ex as s/w engg and i'm keen to start my career in communication...
thanks in anticipation..
Mam,
One of my dream institutes is MICA.. I have few questions to ask w.r.t it:
1.What was the least overall percentile that got a call for the second round last year?
2.What are the total number of seats available and roughly in what ratio the calls are sent out w.r.t the no. of seats available?
3.In general, have the cut-offs for Verbal based on applicants and their corresponding performances finalised by MICA been greater than the Verbal cut-offs released by the IIMs or have they been in and around the same range?
Advance thanks for your patient answering.
Annamalai.
ma'am,
my scores are
QA: 12
DI/LR:43
ENG : 18
1)I know about MICA giving importance to verbal scores....what are my chances considering my rather skewed section scores.
2)Also could you kindly explain the difference between a conventional marketing and MICA' s communication course.
Thank You.
I'm getting 86 overall score.
Last year, did anyone who got more than 85%ile allowed to sit for the MICA test? what is asked in that test?
Hello Prof Deval Kartik, :)
Does MICA consider any other test scores than CAT? And how much will your academic background count?
Hi,
Yes, MICA looks at both overall and sectional cut offs.

Hi Menka
hmmm...your quant score does look worrisome to me...as MICA may look at both overall and sectional scores. However, CAT is used as a short-listing tool and not as selection tool. You also have work ex...so you could consider applying.
