I think CEIBS will offer you a lot of opportunities if you want to work in mainland China. If you want a career in South Asian Countries, not particularly in China, then I believe NUS/NTU will offer you better choices. Also Singapore is more international compared to China, so you may have better innings being in Singapore - but this depends on whether your career goals are location dependent.I would suggest that if you are sure to take up CEIBS if you do not make it to ISB, then its alright. If not, then you should apply to NUS / NTU and keep more options open for yourself.Namita, MBA Decoder
Well, going abroad i'd prefer CEIBS over NUS/NTU because it would give me business insights and networking opportunities in mainland china.I'd also like to pick on mandarin the hard way which would give me an edge in long run.Since market like SGP/HKG are more international in nature i believe it would be easier to shift there with work-ex in India and China both. Moreover, batch at CEIBS is more international in nature with Indian students in minority which is a rare sight in A-PAC schools at least.
I am only weighing the trade-off between CEIBS and ISB, both prominent in their domestic circle but not that well-established a brand on global scene.
@mba-help Thanks a lot! Namita, for ur response. I've also started to think on these lines too. Now I'm only concentrating on a GMAT score of 700-730 first and studying hard to achieve my goal.
HI , I few concerns before going fr GMAT and then a MBA in US can you plss help ....
What is the current scene for Indian Students studying in (M7 +Next 8) Business Schools in US?Are they able to get good jobs after MBA ?How much role does Visa sponsoring play in final FT Recruiting for Indians there who doesn't have work permit/green card ?Is the competition tough for foreign graduates (~around 40% of the class I guess ) as the firms may have limited quota for foreign students.
I am planning on my MBA and I was shortlisting schools .I would like to know your honest opinion on this.Is it worth taking 100k + loan and apply to US MBA schools.I don't have that kind of money but I am willing to take risk if it really worth?
THANKS for your answers in advance :)

@Sandy10oct sandy , looks like you are not confident about what you wish to do .... it seems as simple as that ......even before taking the first step you are fearing and donot get me wrong with a work ex of 6+ years in IT should now be able to refine yr thought process in a way you should perceive and balance out your risks and proceed further .......why do u want an MBA is my first question .......and would it matter if you do not do it is the second .....i have seen a zillion souls in the IT industry who haven't done an MBA and are doing very well inspite of that ......conversely i have seen many people doing an MBA and landing up in jobs they hate just for the lure of quick money !! Now , assuming that you indeed are convinced that an MBA will brighten yr chances at the top of the ladder (which is not so very the case in general) , you have to strategize your options ......low GPA's indeed reflect that you were not committed to yr studies much ....but then again the question arises , you must be good at something ...sports ? social work ? GK ? everyone does have one or two unique qualities in them and its how one utilizes those traits is what is being looked at in an MBA application if ur case is strong .........Assuming that you are aiming for the Executive MBA programmes from IIMs or an ISB , you just need to do 2 things right ....get a very good score in yr GMAT (700-740) -that would indicate yr ability to withstand the academic rigour of the programme and balance out yr academic GPA's and second you need to showcase ( and i mean genuine showcasing not a drama which can be caught very easily) of your superior traits ...be at work , society ..wherever......and pal .....be very positive abt what you are doing and do an MBA just for knowledge enhancement and skill building ....pls do not think it as a money making machine of sorts .....
Thank you Sir! for ur response. Now I'm only concentrating to get a good GMAT score (700+)first. Would it matter to me if I do not go for MBA? Yes it would. I want to grow to a certain level in a quick time I think an MBA degree would help to a good extent. I do have some certificates which showcases my abilities as a a good cricketer. Apart from that I do not have anything which would add to my profile substantially. Need ur advice as to what i need to work upon to make a strong profile after getting a good GMAT score.
Hi,
I am working as a assistant manager with nationalized bank, done BE in computer science .I want to settle down in Australia, but confused abt the course to purse there so that i can get the job after that. I heard that, MBA from AUS got no value as there is no demand for MBAs. is it true?? suggestion for any job oriented finance course in aus ??
@Raging_Bull61

You have not mentioned anything about your work experience, but on assumption that you have some good achievements to talk about and you put together a well thought out and well presented application, you would stand a chance.

Hi,

My question is about my options post MBA. I have got an admit from the whitman school of business for fall 2013 intake. I would like to know how my prospects post MBA if i am coming back to india.

To be more precise. at present i have a work ex of 4.5 years. post my mba and two years of work ex in usa, if i come back to india, how will my prospects differ from someone who has a ten years work ex in india without an mba both in terms of profile and salary.

Regards,

Arul

Arul,

Unlike the other top MBA brands, Whitman doesn't have much of a recall value in India. As a general rule, your best bet is to work in the country that you study in, get a few years work experience and then move geographies.

In terms of comparing the experiences, recruiters will never do the math that you've presented. They'll go by gut feel based on how much justice you can do to their advertised role.

If you can deliver the goods in a better, faster, cheaper and more efficient manner, you are in.

Hi
I am an Indian male. Here is my brief profile: -
Age: 37
GMAT: 730 (V40, Q50)
Edu: M.Com, good EC.
Experience:
Education/Training Sector: - Toppers Academy (My own Entrepreneurial venture) : 10 years
Sales: - Asian Paints I ltd – 2 years & Tata-Bp lubricants – 3 years

After working in sales for 5 years, I started my small coaching centre and have been running it for last 10 years. Here my main tasks are to train people for different courses we teach, carry out marketing and business development activities etc.

Now I would like to work for big corporate companies in education sector in India. I'd like to know what opportunities would be available to me if I could get an Executive MBA from IIMs such as PGPX or EPGP. Could I get placement? What other sectors could I aim for post MBA?

I would be greatly obliged if any of you answered.
Thanks.

Hi,

I just wanted to get my profile assessed so I could get a realistic idea of what colleges I should be aiming at -

Belonging to the most common IT Male slot: -
Age: 26
GMAT: 720 ( Expecting based on Mock tests and preparation)
School - Xth - 75%, XII - 89%
Graduation: BE - 60% aggregate (Mumbai University)
Extra-Curricular: Not so impressive
Experience: IT MNC (5 years in July 2013) - Credible performance with multiple awards and certifications - 2.5 years onsite in NA

I am looking for 1 year courses (possibly Exec MBA) which would fit my profile. I am pretty much aware that IIMs are mostly out of league, just trying to see which colleges (best and worst cases scenarios) should I target for applying if I plan to join 2014 batch.

Thanks in advance for the evaluation.

However one subject of 3rd year was a backlog and i cleared it in dec-2007 and so on my degree certificate its written 2008 passing and have passed my final year in 2007. I was working from june-2007 to june 2008. so will i be able to write 2007 as my graduation and also will my experience of that one year will be counted.

Please reply guys, damn worried due to this.

Hello,

Can somebody help me in deciding whether I stand a chance in any of the global top 25 or even top 50 MBA programs?

Indian, female, married, 30 years.

Currently working as a Process Consultant in one of the top IT consulting company. No international experiance.

Total exp as of today: 8 years

Certificate Program in GM from IIM-C

BE (Computer Tech): 64%

HSC: 84%

SSC:87%

Extra curriculars: Sad :(

I am quite assured of a decent GMAT score..say 680-710.

My dilemma arises because I am planning to quit the job in the next couple of months and start a small, content-based, ecommerce company (which may not pick up by the time I apply to Unis). So, will this sabattical help or ruin the chances of my MBA dream?

-Nuts

Most MBA programs have their own guidelines for recommendations- they ask the recommendors a set of 5-6 questions, which are specific to every b-school.

Typically in the "apply yourself" form, you would be asked to give the names and email addresses of 2-3 recommendors and then the b-school reaches out directly to these people for their reports.

Are you targeting a program with process that is different compared to this?
