Your stats are great. what you really need to ensure are credible career goals. A lot of MBA aspirants I know want to make a career change from IT backend in IB to mainstream. However, this change is not easy. Your career goals would need to be supported with a solid case on why you can make this transition.
In any case, this analysis is based on an assumption. You are pretty much good to apply to any b-school on the basis of your stats. I hope you also have some good leadership experiences that make you sound interesting.
In my stint with Siemens for approx 4 years, I started off as a site engineer for Rail Automation. Profile involved supervision, installation, testing and commissioning of Railway Signalling Equipment across project sites in India. Lately, I have been transferred to a marketing role (business development) in the same business function for order acquisitions.
Apart from this, I have worked with AC Nielsen in FMCG consulting for 1 year. (first job)
Acads:
Xth: 81.3%; XIIth: 69.5%
BE Electrical, Univ. of Mumbai: 55.2%
So far, I have applied to Duke Fuqua in R1 and would apply to Cornell Johnson in R2 (Nov 28 deadline). I am also planning to apply to Ross and UNC: Kenan - Flagler in R2 ( Jan & Dec deadlines).
I would really appreciate feedback on my choice of B schools. Since, there is ample time left for R2 deadlines, I need some advice as to whether I am way out of my league in applying to these schools or just stick to these and have confidence in my profile, application and essays on the whole.

Hi, Business schools look for individuals who bring varied experience to the classroom. If you can demonstrate through your application that you had some achievements at work and have progressed well in your career then you are all set to apply
The NGO experience will help if you have a real involvement there.
This is Rajesh here and I'd like to introduce my profile first.
X(ICSE) - 81.60%
XII(ISC) - 80.80%
BTech(CSE) - 7.3 CGPA

I want to pursue an MBA in the Finance sector. Is it possible to get into this domain if I make to any of the top B-Schools?Also,One more query regarding specifically for 'SPJAIN'(I had earlier posted my query at SPJAIN thread but could'n get a convincing response, hence posting it here too.Hence, want some more clarity from you gurus).I had applied for Finance at SPJAIN last year too,but had not got a profile call(scores were low hence couldn't get a score based call too).Thinking about what might have gone wrong for not getting a profile call last year at SPJAIN seems to amaze me though I have decent acads and good extra-curriculars with solid work-ex(now).Many of my friends who are now at top IIMs and other B-schools have told me that since I dont have exp in the Finance sector,I might not be considered at all for this domain(i.e it would rather be a straight reject applying at SPJAIN for finance). Is this true??
Other Specializations which I see there are IM(Dont want to apply since I would like to get out f the IT sector completely),Marketing and Operations.Any good options remain after this??Please help me with this..Im totally confused.Because, based on this decision I would like to apply or else I would to skip from applying at SPJAIN altogether. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong of anything which I mentioned here.
More than 29 months of experience in power plants . Basically was into planning , scheduling, expediting and day monitoring of project execution . Nowadays working as an Energy and resource management engineer and in the same power plant.
I intend to do my MBA in project management field........... though not being specific of power plants
Planning to give my GMAT after few months may be FEB or so.. Since this will be my first attempt,I need some guidance from you guys.
I would really appreciate if you could recommend me few good colleges which has this course also by considering my profile..
with your work experience of 3 years, you do not get typefaced into any category. If you want to get into finance, that's reasonable enough, but you should have a convincing answer for "why finance?" Do you have exposure to the finance domain in your job? Are you pursuing a CFA? Some reason that will help you build your story.

Ashwin, are you asking about GMAT Prep courses or MBA?
From my understanding, there is no MBA specialization in project management. Either you can do a general management focus in MBA or do a Project Management certification from PMI.
@mba-help thank you , ya I meant specialization in project management actually.. Rather I would like to put it in this way, I was talking about Business Development/Risk management/strategy making in projects .. Will PMI help me in this? I just went through their website but I think its for managers executing the projects...
@mba-help : Hi Namitha,Thanks for your reply.Actually, I neither have exposure to the Finance domain nor have a CFA certification . In that case (from ur reply too) it seems, Finance is out of my sight.

Rajesh, I did not get a feeling that you are applying this year. If you feel so strongly about being in finance, work towards it - maybe look out for opportunities at work where you get the required exposure. Join a financial services company in their IT department.
You should apply to other b-schools as well- putting all your eggs in one basket it never a good idea.
Hi all,I am a newbie here. This is my first post.. GMAT - 720( v : 40 and q: 48). 2.6 yrs of Work Experience in TCS (India). BE Graduate (VTU)- Got a university rank. Extracurriculars - Trekking , Literature. Learning Spanish as a Foreign Language. I have also helped my friend with his start-up(e-commerce website) . It will be launched this december I aim to become an entrepreneur one day. Should I apply to US universities this year? Please help!!. And also worried about financing my MBA..!!
@highflyer05You have got a pretty decent profile. My profile is very similar to yours, considering the work ex and GMAT scores (minus all the extracurricular activities you have). I am applying to the Canadian B-schools for next Fall. I had also successfully applied to US B-schools for Fall 2011 intake. Did not take up the admit though.
Let me know if you have any queries about North American B schools. Not really very sure about the UK/European ones.
Also, it is definitely possible for you to move into Management Consulting with a 1Yr MBA. Many people do that. All the best for your endeavors
@highflyer05 i had an admit from Michigan State University, Broad, with scholarships, for Fall 2011. That was the only school i had applied for. This year I am applying to few Canadian schools, but I am underselling myself, for my own reasons. I personally prefer the 2yr programs, mainly because i feel they are more spaced out and less hectic.
About the Big 4 hiring only from amongst people who have interned with them, i'm not sure to be honest. Although, even most 1yr programs have a 2-4 months internship at the end of the program.
Richard Ivey MBA program, University of Western Ontario, Canada, is well known for its strategic consulting program. you can check that out.
