I realise the biggest drawback in my profile is my GMAT. I did a pre-evaluation at IMD and they asked me to apply. But i am bit reluctant to apply to avoid a rejection.
What is your suggestion for me?
Dear All,

Reason for doing 2nd MBA- Global exposure, better career opportunity
GMAT- Not yet taken- Planned to only target top b-schools with (hopefully 700+ score
)- planning for 2013-14 intake, then my experience will be around 8-9 years
Now my question
1. Which are some of the best colleges for HR Management course, with significant placement record since I want to build my career in HR Management/ HR Consulting- Now I am open across geography, target budget 25 L ( am I getting too optimistic here
)
2. Is there any source of data which I can refer to in terms of placement record of Indian students passing out form reputed B-school
3.Can I consider Asian top b-schools a better bet in terms of landing a job (since language barrier may be limited)though my first preference is European B-School ( provided I will at least be treated equally as a job hunter and will be able to work in European countries for atleast few years.
May be I wrote too much ![]()
Thanks for the time and your valuable suggestion

Hello Consultants,
Thanks a lot for helping aspirants like us with our doubts. Keep up the good work!
I have a few dilemma which i was hoping that you can resolve.
My Profile:
Xth - 91%
XIIth - 87%
I have done Dual Degree from IIT Delhi (B.Tech. + M.Tech.)
B.Tech. CGPA - 7.4/10
M.Tech. CGPA - 9.2/10
Work. Ex. - 18 months presently; working in a niche management consulting firm
I have not yet taken GMAT and my percentile in CAT '11 was 97 (however, I gave one mock GMAT test few months back and scored 700 without much prep.)
I am looking for an MBA from the Top 20 global B-schools for the session starting in 2013 or later. However, I am currently facing few dilemmas which I hope you can help me resolve
1. If I plan to apply for R1 of 2013 session (i.e. by end of this year), do you think I will have decent work ex. to convince the Ad Com guys? Or should I wait for the next year (i.e. for 2014 session) to apply?
2. How important is the role of a company's brand name for admission. While I am gaining some good work ex. in my present company, it is not a very reputed firm, rather a small one of ~70 employees. Should I stick to it or change to another big firm now and leverage its name once I get a work ex. of 2 yrs from there? The reason I say this is because all the people admitted to Harvard or Stanford which I have come across have had some good work ex. from companies like McKinsey, BCG, etc.
3. During my final year at IIT, I worked as Teaching Assistant and took doubt solving classes for 1st and 2nd year students. I was also paid for that. Would it qualify as a work ex. or not?
Your valuable response to these queries would be of great help.
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards.
Hi...please reply to this query...it would be of great help. Thanks.
amit9424444 Sayswhat are the benefits of pursuing mba through gmat over pursuing mba through ielts universities.
Amit,
GMAT is not an alternative to IELTS. Both tests are designed to evaluate different aspects.
Most of the top ranked international bschools ask for a GMAT and an English profiency test (like TOEFL or IELTS).
Some schools drop the GMAT requirement and ask only for a TOEFL/IELTS score along with a Statement of Purpose.
If you skip the GMAT, it'll cut off many of the better schools from your shortlist.

i have 1 yr of wrk ex in a software company...i wanna go for higher education (preferably MBA). How is MSc in Financial Economics from Oxford University as an alternative?
Hi "Help",
Really appreciate your inputs. U rock!!
I am in Sales and Mktng profile, Industrial products, MNC..4 yrs..interested in building a career in brand management post MBA.
Which are the top universities globally in marketing and brand management.
I have a good GMAT score and ECs , pretty good achievements in work (so much for modesty ...
)
i would be eternally grateful if u can provide me the top 10 globally ranked B skuls in "Marketing" domain.
I have referred numerous sites, but i guess its always PG which comes with the best opinion....
Please help.
Hi Consultants,
I have been reading this thread for quite some time and find it very useful and would thank all the consultants involved for their valuable contributions.
Now its my turn to request the consultants to kindly evaluate my profile.
I will be writing GMAT this May and would be applying for Fall 2013.
Please find the summary of my profile.
10th - 89% 12th - 91 % B.Tech- 72 %
Work Experience - 6.5 years in IT in the Banking Vertical in 3 IT companies. Have been delivering in the role of lead for the last 4 years .However only in the last 1.5 years worked with designation of Team Leader.I have been only on a short term onsite(for 3 months) and not on any long term onsite.
From mid of this month, working as a Senior Consultant in a Process consulting start up that is focused on Transportation vertical (non IT)(Also start up is founded by my relative)
Have done some Technical certifications.Planning to take up PMP certification at the earliest.
Have received appreciation/awards for the work done in every organization.
Not much in Extra Curricular activities/NGO related work on social causes.
Request to kindly provide guidance on these mentioned points.
1. At the time of applying in Oct 2012,I would have a total of 7.2 years (6.5 years in IT , last 9 months in non IT)& at the time of joining B school in Fall 2013, I would have a total of 8 years (6.5 years in IT, last 1.5 years in non IT).
Given my major work ex is in IT, would I still be tagged as Indian IT Male??
2.I am interested mainly in 2 year MBA, as post MBA ,I am planning for career change and get into Strategy Consulting. Also is 1 year MBA advisable for career change?
3. As the start up is in the initial stages and I work only for the founder (who is also my relative),should I get a recommendation only from the client and not from founder??
4.I am planning to get involved in NGO related work on social causes but I fear is it too late??
5.What are my chances at the Top 15 US B Schools assuming I get a GMAT score of 750+??
Thanks a lot for your valuable time and eagerly awaiting the feedback.
Consultants, request to please evaluate my profile.

Hi Consultants,
Thanks in advance for responding to my query here.
I was waitlisted by Giozueta in their early decision round, and I was asked to send some supplemental information. Later, I received a feedback from the adcom informing me that my application is solid and there is nothing that needs to be done on my part to make it stronger - It;s just that it's a very competitive applicant group this year.
Also, I was told that my application will be evaluated with applicants in the subsequent rounds. Two rounds have already elapsed since I applied to Goizueta and my decision has not changed from wait list. I have now also received an admit from Simon School of Business with 20000$ in scholarship per year.
Goizueta is my first choice, and I would surely join if admitted.
Could you please help me answer the below questions:
1. Can I now write an essay/letter to them detailing any developments in my profile?
2. Can I tell them that I have an offer from two different schools, which I am required to accept with in a stipulated time?
3. I had already sent some additional information to them in the past. Can I ask a colleague/Supervisor to send additional recommendation letter? Do I have to check with them regarding sending an additional letter.
4. I am due to get promoted as an Assistant Manager on 1st March, but it has not been released yet. Can I talk about this in the essay?
Thanks so much!

Your GMAT score and GPA would put you at a disadvantage at INSEAD and LBS. However, adcoms view your profile in entriety. If you can put up a great application which shows career progression, leadership instances and a clear need for an MBA from a the b-school, then you should apply to IMD.
You won't know where you stand until you try (& you have already got a positive response to apply).
Is retaking GMAT a possibility?

Hi Guys, Want your advice, I am CA working with a MNC for almost 3 years. My work ex relates to taxation where I have been handling Transfer pricing and corporate tax affairs . I have also started to look into other areas such as accounts and audit. I wish to apply to ISB such that to move to a larger role of a sub- CFO position.
a. what are the chances keeping current profile in mind?
b. what is the average GMAT score where the ex is less than 3 years.
Thanks,

Hello to the fabled consultants in Pagal guy. This is one of the best sites in the world !! I am so glad that one of my friends referred this site to me. A big thanks to the consultants who have taken time out of their busy schedules to reply to the various queries here (I did learn a lot from the answers even though I dint directly ask any of the questions).
Well, here's my condition: Need to study in 2012 ! Call me impatient, short sighted or whatever else. But I just have to study in 2012 ! I tried to gain as much information as I could abt the various fields in biz and have come to conclusion that I would like to pursue a career in supply chain mng, operations. I also find marketing (particularly branding and positioning) very interesting. But I heard that firms abroad prefer localites for jobs in mktg (which kinda makes sense).
So here's the deal: If I study in India, I'd like to pursue mktg (sales, branding and positioning). If I am studying abroad, I'd like to pursue supply chain mng, operations and strategy.
And, here's my profile: GMAT: 730
IT, Indian, male (yet another lost loser !)
Decent EC (Good enough for the ISB to shortlist me for an interview. Still waiting to hear from them. 15th is the D Day. But I have a feeling that I wont make it cuz my work ex is very less)
Domain: retail and SCM
I don't mind doing masters or an MBA. Please guide me about which universities to apply in which countries. I am trying to avoid the USA and the EU (cause of the bad economic crisis). I am looking at Aus, singapore or preferably India. If USA, then its got to be one of the best. I do not want to compromise on the quality on the university at any cost. I have been studying in one of the best schools/college thus far and I don't want to break the trend now.

It'll be low. But you are in consulting, which puts you in a steeper and multiple learning curves than other professions. Focus on that as well as how specific projects made your experience multi-faceted.
2. How important is the role of a company's brand name for admission.Top brands can help in forming a good first impression, specially when they've made the recruitment process extremely selective. Think, McK/Bain/BCG or the bulge bracket Investment banks.
If you don't have such brands, no worries. You'll just have to ensure your essays do the talking rather than just rely on the CV.
Should I stick to it or change to another big firm now and leverage its name once I get a work ex. of 2 yrs from there? If you can get into a M/B/B kinda firm, do it. Otherwise, big isn't always better. In fact, it can slow down your growth.
