My experience with Welcome to MBA Dream in the past few months has been great. I have been working with Rahul, and he is the kind of guy who keeps on motivating you to get the best out of you. He keeps me informed of the different college fairs and info sessions too (helping in app fee waivers).
With a score of 750, I had thought my battle was won but Rahul made me work extra hard to get that perfect story made that got me calls from ISB, Tepper and Kenan Flagler. It was a pleasure working with him and I hope he can help many other deserving students, like he did with me.

Do i have a chance to make it to the premier Indian B schools whose names start with "I"??

I completed my engineering in 5 years (64%). Lost an year once in high school and another after completing it.
Overall, lost 3 precious years of my academic life.
While applying to the top school where the MBA coursework is rigorous, you'll have to use the optional essays to explain why you lost those 3 years.

Though you haven't explained it here, I'm guessing you have 3 de-linked stories (4 if you also include low grades in addition to the lost years), making it a little more challenging.

Now I wish to do an MBA from a good college (which ensures good placement).
No international college can 'ensure' a good placement. They'll provide you with the support and guidance. But you'll have to take the responsibility of getting yourself placed.

How strong is my profile if I can get a 700+ GMAT score for 2013 admissions (5 yrs work ex, 30 yrs age when applying).
If your work-experience over the last 5 years has been strong and you manage to get a good GMAT score, go ahead and apply after considering the points mentioned above. Be realistics about your choice of schools.

Good luck.

Last year got a interview call. Got rejected, re-applying this year. The feedback session said, they could not see conviction.
What do you suggest changing this year? Do they mean conviction as in examples...or maybe I did not do the interview well ?
I have few major work assignments that are related to my long term goals as well that I plan to write in the re-application essay.

Thanks
RK

tdhnaman,

You can also check out SMU and INSEAD in Singapore.

In Canada, Queens is among the best programs for an MBA. Its a wide question to ask about the job scenario - depends on what you want to do post MBA- because some industries would always be recruiting while others will not - and that becomes more pronounced when you are an international student.
I also noticed that your verbal section of GMAT has a low score. This may become a thorn in the admissions process.

RK,

Lacking conviction is a very broad feedback. It could mean anything - right from essays not being able to convey the story impactfully to the interview not being able to sustain the interest that got generated by the essays.

When the feedback is very specific (e.g. increasing a very low GMAT score), then it makes sense to focus on each recommended item from the list.

When it is as vague as the one you've got (assuming there's nothing else they've told you), I'd recommend that you go in with a broader multi-pronged strategy. Try to see if you can give them multiple reasons to consider this year. You already have some new professional assignments to talk about. Ask your self if this will tilt the scales and then take a call.

Always tough to be a re-applicant to a school like ISB. If there isn't one big spike in one area, then smaller but consistent improvements in multiple areas can help. If you want them to give you a second chance, then give them enough reason to do so.

Hi Sameer,

Thank you so much for the help.
I understand your comments.....btw lacking conviction is the exact term I got on the phone 😃 was a little hesitant to use it here.

"Lacking conviction is a very broad feedback. "

yeah, that is the only thing I was told. I do have multiple areas to talk about, and will do so. I am giving or hoping to give a good shot :)

Hi navisangha,

Your work experience sounds like you will have good leadership stories to tell- if you are managing 100-150 people, you would require good people manangement skills and b-schools love that.

You have not mentioned anything about your career goals and what you are seeking from an MBA education- so it would be difficult to comment on your list of b-school or give you a few more names.

You could get back with that information.

want to know whether specialised MBA's like in energy (from SPM, gandhinagar; NPTI faridabad etc) or in environmental( from NITIE) will help me to get a better career(including better package) or doing core MBA and then joining some oil company will do. Also I am very comfortable in both the streams. As I have heard that these specialised MBA programs in India dont possess much reputation and job opportunities after doing them are rare. right now I am working at a very low package(
