Here are a few tips you can use to develop a strong theme for each MBA essay:

. Answer the question. You may go into the essay writing process with a clear idea of what you want to write about. That's great - but if you don't answer the given question, the adcom won't be impressed. When choosing a theme or main idea to write about, be sure that the one you choose answers the essay question.

. Stay focused. A good essay is a focused essay in which each paragraph directly relates to or supports the theme. If your subsequent paragraphs don't relate to or support your theme, then either your theme isn't strong enough or your paragraphs aren't persuasive enough and need to be rewritten. Cut anything that isn't directly relevant to your core idea.

. Provide examples. Convince the reader of your main point by using concrete examples that prove that your theme is logical and credible. For instance, if you are writing about the importance of careful listening to leadership, you should give examples from your experience that show why listening is important or the benefits of listening to a leader. Weave your personal story of listening and leadership into your discussion of benefits. Or better yet, make it the focus that exemplifies the lessons and benefits of this particular leadership attribute.

. Don't forget your conclusion. Wrap up your ideas and tie them with a big bow in the last paragraph or sentence of your essay. This will reinforce your theme and bring your essay full-circle.

my gre score-306, ielts-6.5, acads 10th-86.17, 12th-76.9, btech(ECE)-59.3...which colleges should i apply in US? Can i get colleges ranking below 100  n state universities?

Hi All, Need a bit of advice. I am a graduate with B.Tech in ECE(62%) , 12th - 73%. and 10th - 76%. I am currently working with an IT company based in Delhi as a Systems Engineer. Total work EX is of 28 months(approx). Planning to do my MBA this year. Need to know which all colleges would accept my profile if get a decent score of 660-700 range in GMAT.

Apart from acads, i am Sports Enthusiast. Started playing Table Tennis at district level in 4th Class itself. Then moved on to Badminton for next few years and played football at District level during 9th-12th Std.

It all fizzled out in college as i  am a graduate of Amity University where they were more than 20k people so the competition was really stiff!

Apart from sports i was a core committee member of CSR department in my previous organization, wherein we had several tie-ups with the NGO's to help underprivileged kids with books and stationery and other stuff. So was part of the regular drives and camps held in office and co-ordinated with many NGO's during my tenure.

Please suggest what all colleges should i search for which would suit my profile. looking for colleges in Europe(specifically Germany) and Asia. As far as the area of interest is , i am intrigued about the field of Marketing Industry as i see myself inclined towards the process of it and the various stages it goes from branding to promotion to sales and on. I feel that i would be good in it.

Moreover i consider myself good in communication skills as well as soft skills. So i am planning to change my stream all together from a techie to Marketing.

Thanks in Advance.

10 Important Editing Questions:

During the editing stage of your essays you'll take a look at the nitty- gritty of your essays, as well as the larger picture of how the essays fit into your application.

During this process you'll ask yourself the following ten questions:

1. Do each of my essays complement each other and the rest of the application?

2. Does each essay introduce new stories and aspects of my experiences that the other essays do not cover?

3. Do the essays complement my CV/resume/letters of recommendation? (You want the answer to be yes. Don't waste your time and the reader's time to merely rehash your resume in your essays - that's what your CV/resume/letters of rec are for!)

4. Do each of my essays answer all elements of the question posed?

5. Have I spell checked each of my documents (and not just with your computer's spell checker, but with your actual eyes and brain)?

6. Is all of my formatting consistent and accurate?

7. Is my grammar spot-on?

8. Have I read each of my essays aloud to check that they SOUND good in addition to LOOKING good?

9. Have I recruited 2-5 friends/family members/colleagues to read my essays and provide feedback?

10. Have I sought the services of professional editors?

Hi guys, I am planning to give GMAT this year. I have 3.5 years of experience(IT - System Tester) in Accenture. I want to know how many Indian colleges consider GMAT? If applying for colleges outside how and where to search? From where to prepare for GMAT? When is the ideal time to give it?  Please enlighten me with some inputs. (I have a good base of Maths and English as I was preparing for CAT 2014)

Hello Guys, need some help....I am planning to give GMAT in the month of May.Can you suggest any good GMAT coaching institute in Pune.

Hi Folks,

I have been working with TCS for the past 3.3 years.I'm planning for GMAT and I don't know where to begin. Should I join Coaching  and which institutes are good at New Delhi or just by following the Official Guide is enough? Considering I'm an average guy please also suggest the time frame and when is the best time to appear for GMAT. I'm targeting only Indian B-Schools.

Hello guys,

I am working with CTS for 4.5 years primarily for BFS and LifeSciences clients.

Brief profile

10th : 84

12th :82

UG (BE Electrical) :73

WE : 4.5 yrs CTS.

I have been working on data integration across platforms like files, database and cloud based systems.

I am technically sound in SQL, data integration tools and CRM applications(sales force.com).

Additionally, I have led a team working on a development module being offshore contact person for the module.

Provided few trainings over the period and received appreciation awards multiple times

It was while working for a BFS client that I got interested in finance( asset management).

Also cleared CFA Level 1 and Level 2 candidate for Jun '15.

I wish to make a transition to finance in financial modeling or valuations.

I am considering both MBA and MFE, targeting US schools.

Since i have gained knowledge in C++, R and SQL, and wish to leverage the knowledge in finance through MFE.

While MBA from an above average school will also help in realizing my goals.

Target schools MBA : Johnson, Anderson, Tapper, McCombs.

MFE : NYU, UCB, UCLA, Cornell, Rutgers.

Though I know admission is quite competitive, please access my profile and suggest areas if improvement.

Please also suggest schools strong in financial modeling/ equity research/ valuation/IM.

Hello Guys,

I am not very sure whether this is the right platform or not, but I am quite confused and looking for guidance.

I have a mediocre academic score and am working in one of the Big Fours and have an experience of approx 2.5 years. I gave GMAT last year a got a score of 690. I have got admission into Simon Business School with 30% scholarship.

I am not able to decide whether I should join the B-School or wait for another year and try for a better school. The main concern is the placements as international students require sponsorship. I would have to take a hefty loan to pursue and thus a good job after MBA is imperative to pay back.

Please Guide

Hello, I wanted to gain some guidance on MBA.  My profile is mentioned below:

I have 5.5 years of work experience in the BPO/IT/ITES sector.

My XII is 83.60% ICSE and X is 76.67% ICSE

B.Tech in Mechanical Engg with 73.08% from UPTU

I gave CAT 2014 and got 96.28%ile

I'm planning to write GMAT in the summer

My first question is should I go for regular MBA or Executive MBA?

I have an inclination towards a regular MBA but staying away from for two years might be alittle too much to manage.

Due to my family commitments and financials my preference is to do it from India.

My objective to do MBA is to get a career transition therefore I like to learn some general mangement concepts to open myself to a variety of avenues.

My second question is around what colleges to target in India for someone who has my kind of experience?

Please advise.
