Hi,

Applied for Rice in R2..and have got my interview call (telephonic) for Tuesday.

ppa3005 have you finished your interview? How did it go?
Any words of advice?

Really surprised that there aren't more people who have applied. From what i understand it's a great school.

hey buddy..

interview was decent...a bit too conversational...

a. speak of a time whn u did something tht ur team was against of...
b. wht is your biggest regret...not just professional
c. talk bout indian economic situation and the way the recession has hit the indian economy...
d. why mba/why rice/talk bout urself
e. speak of a failure...

it lasted fr bout 38 minutes...to b precise...

Any discussion on the scholarship front ppa?

And has the interviewer given any indication of when they will get back to you?

You will usually hear back on the date specified on the website for your round, at least that's how it worked for me. Good luck!

well today is tht day...feb 19th...an agonizin wait....

Hi Guys,

Got an Admit from Rice MBA program in R2 with 31.5k Annual scholarship.
Please let me know if this is a good offer and also, whether I can try negotiating with them to increase the scholarship amount?

Thanks.

Congrats Fizzy. Your profile sounds pretty impressive. Let's hope that we have a Rice alumnus on this forum who can advise.

The amount of activity on this thread is a little disturbing. Wondering if it's because people are not aware about how good a program Rice has or if they are only aiming for the more publicised schools.

It is because most of the people blindly follow rankings without looking at the pros and cons of a school. If you look at the placement stats and starting salaries of Rice and compare that to a higher ranked school like Emory..you will see Rice is way better than Emory. But a lot of people don't do the research and just see the rankings. Also, if you are in the US it doesn't take a genius to figure out Texas economy is the best among all states. Just be proud of your decision and do your own research. Do not follow people on forums like sheep. Good luck and try to be on top of your class wherever you go! Being in the top 10 at Rice will open more doors for you than being in the bottom 10 at Wharton.

Just got a response from Rice today..got dinged. Congrats to those of you who got through.

Sorry about that. What is your profile if you don't mind?

Hi guys,
Im new to this thread.. i applied in R3 and got an interview invite from Rice.have scheduled it next week..Could you please share your interview experience and the questions.
Would be a great help
Thanks

Rice is well known for its finance and energy programs. Its mba is damn costly though. I heard that they have reduced number of international students slightly this year due to relatively less placements of International students. As for Indians, I have seen one of my friend being rejected after a good interview even at 710 score.
I dont have a good feeling about their admissions process. Their interviews are taken by first year students, who i doubt are as adept at accurately identifying potential and promise of applicants. Maybe interviews with the admissions committee will not only do good for measuring the applicant's strengths, but will also provide better chances at scholarship, since the interviewer can vouch for a candidate in admissions committee meetings.
I would say that though Houston factor and small class size definitely helps getting good salaries, but quality of education and infrastructure can never be compared to likes of Emory and Wharton.
But evantually it all comes down to an applicant's preferences and priorities in the end.. Rice may or may not be a good option for him..

Rice has way better infrastructure than Emory. How can you compare Emory and Wharton together? And the interviews are conducted by 2nd year students. And what makes you think the quality of education at Rice is not comparable to Emory? Have you attended their classes?
