Hi,

Although I do NOT own any equipment as of now but I plan to take Digital Photography as a big time hobby once I get into a B School. I have my eyes set upon a 5 MP cam and as soon as I get it, wouls post pictures here. :D

May be you can help me with selection of equipment.

I am not so sure about places in Banglore but if you ever travel to Mumbai, there is this place called JJMehta's Photography Shop or something. It is highly recommended and you should check it out and you can get EVERYTHING and that too at very good prices. Needless to say it is very very reliable and staff there is very courteous.

Happy Clicking

P.S.: I am from Delhi and have never been to Mumbai.

well u could try the GK VALE showroom on MG Road or On CMH road. probably u could have a look n get more of an idea as to what u r lookin for or what u really need
these places may evan know places where they could teach u how to use a camera...i mean the old manual thingy with all the zoom n all that jazz!!!!
cheers luck

Yeah, I've seen the JJ Mehta website. Looks interesting. But right now I want to see the equipment before I buy it. Maybe next time I go to Mumbai for a GD/PI call I will make a visit to this place.

This place is expensive, man. There are many guys in Bangalore who sell original stuff at less than half the price quoted by GK Vale. But i dont know anybody 😞 😞 Of course, its a grey market but *very* original stuff - that's why I want to source from reliable shops only.

Recently picked up a digital camera form a shop which is next to ameoba off MG road. Dont quite remember the name. There is an Olympus shop on Brigades. Youll get standard accessories and equipments there. The prices will be a bit high though.

This seems to be an interesting discussion..
can anybdy guide me to buying a digital camera.. what to look for ..what different models n prices.. what all maintainenace if any.. how many photos can eacj one store etc....

plz tellme with reference to whats available in india only. n good value for money shops in delhi..

Thanks..

Hi folks,

For all those who have friends abroad, ask them to pick up the Digital Camera's and Camcorders from there. It will cost only 60% of what it costs here.
JJMehta sells things at the price that you get in US or Europe. I don't know about the quality or service.
There is a shop in Gem Plaza (Infantry Road - bangalore). It has some good digital cameras. Also, in case you are buying a Digital Camera only for the occasional photographs, don't go for the high end cameras, with 4-5MP. For PostCard size photographs, 2.3-3.2MP is more than enough. But it is expensive getting the prints and not all shops have the equipment.

In case, any of you need any help in buying cameras (the technical aspects), feel free to PM me. I will try to help.

Regards

The first step in buying any camera is you have to answer yourself a question: Why do you want a Camera? (this is like a typical PI question - Why MBA?) 😃 😃

The purpose of a camera largely decides your choice. If you want to take pics just like that then a typical base model digi-cam will serve the purpose. If you wanna take hi-fi pics then go for an SLR camera.

While selecting Digital cameras apart from checking for pixel size, the following are worth consideration:
1. Battery life (in no. of shots)
2. Zoom functions
3. Max no. of photographs that can be taken
4. Uplinking photographs to a PC
5. Some digi-cameras can be doubled as Webcams - check out that feature too.
6. Other features are like any typical feature of a film-cameras - self timer, built-in flash, red-eye reduction, date-time function.

Maintenance will be very easy. Just follow the instructions given in the manual, that suffices.

I donno abt shops in Delhi, but before venturing into shops, its worth visiting the official sites of Nikon, Canon etc. for the features. I think Olympus is the king of small cameras. They have something called series (pronounced myoo). YOu can check that out.

For people who have friends in US I have a suggestion. Go to www.ritzcamera.com - this site contains exhaustive list of cameras and accessories and even gives a real-time help with whom you can clarify immly. Plenty of discount offers will be available. You can ask your friends in US to receive the items and get it to India .

I did that for a couple of accessories - works out to be as cheap is 60%!! But this guy comes to India once in a year :-(

hi!!
im very much interested in photography, more in film than digital. everybody who want to buy a digital camera, needs to ask what does he or she want from the camera and its intended use. if u r looking for good photography, then there isnt any point buying cheap digital cameras, with less than 3 mpx. for film like quality u would hav to buy at least 4mpx camera. but if u are looking for a camera to use on occasions and for general use. then it really depends on the budget. general guidelines shud be to follow mpx number, the optical zoom, then the memory slot, then the formats it uses, then other features it provides and ofcourse u shud try it out for size.
hav a look at sample photos.
dont buy stuff which runs on lot of proprietory or expensive stuff, like memory cards shud not be expensive aand batteries it uses shud be available widely if not everywhere
pc conectivity is a must. and the simpler it is the better. more importantly for regular use, it shud be user friendly.

anybody owns any equipment like slr cameras.
bwt, jjmehta is a good shop, but everybody knows about him bcoz he does a lot of marketing on the net. he has a smalll shop in dadar. if anybody in bombay knows where is ideal book depot, can find it very easily. he keeps all popular brands in cameras in film, just chekout the product page. if u really want the best prices checkout www.bhphotovideo.com, u can order it from there and tell ur relative to bring
it over. intl shipping is also provided but u will hav problems in customs.
