Hey Guys,

Starting a new thread for all AGSM Jan 2011 aspirants and admits.

I got an admit mail yesterday. So hoping to know abt other admits before the class starts. 😃

Hi waka waka,

Can share your profile, gmat score and your interview experience?

Did you got any scholarship? If no, how you are planning to raise the funds?

4yrs IT consulting and implementation exp, GMAT score of 710, BTech in Electronics & Communication, not so bad GPA.

I did not receive any scholarship yet. I have submitted the applications. If I don't get it, I'll apply for bank loan

Hi

I had applied in round 2 ie. the 2nd Aug deadline with a gmat score of 610 (4th attempt). Around 3 years of work exp in investment banking and used cars family business.

Have been asked by the adcom if I am willing to take the gmat again by the 23rd of Aug as the avg score is 660 and the admission process is extremely competitive.

I know that I am the best judge to make a call on taking the GMAT again or not but then to it would be great, if past, current or prospective AGSM students can share your view on this.

Secondly, would like to know if there is anyone else who has applied to AGSM 2011 and been asked to retake the test in order to get a higher score.

Thanks.
Abhay Bohra

Hi Bohra,

I dont want to discourage you. But a GMAT score of 610 in 4th attempt, which I presume is your highest score, and 3 yrs exp which includes used car business, may not appear attractive to adcom, considering the fact that other applicants are having experience in MNCs and Fortune 500 companies.

My honest recommendation for you would be to take up GMAT again and aim a 700. If that is out of scope, you do a MS in the field of your interest and take up a job in a reputed firm. After 5-6 yrs you can apply for a top notch MBA. My POV may appear wierd to some of you. This is strictly my views for a safe career. Of course you can be more ambitious if you have the will power and mental strength.

Hi All,

folks i have close to 7 years of experience, currently a lead and have taken the responsibility of 25 members till date. My only problem is i belong to to IT (Software Testing) the most common pool. i havent given gmat yet, please tell me what will be a comfortable score for AGSM ?

thanks

Hi Tanmay,

7 years is ideal for AGSM afaik. A GMAT score of 680- 700 should be comfortable enough for you. The only thing you have to take care of, is your resume. Apart from leading a team, what significant contributions have you made to your company or your clients ? If you can project this, you should have a smooth sail.

The only worrying factor for you now is that the number of seats left for the Jan 2011 intake. Considering the fact that the AGSM class size is very small and already 2 rounds are over, chances of making it through this year is not as good as it would have been in round 1. Anyways all the best.

Regards

3. Can i also get a good job in south east asia after AGSM? is it ranked well in the INDUSTRY internationally?
4. should i continue to apply for US top schools?
PLease help

Hi 730 gmat,

Considering ur work ex and gmat score u can definitely give a shot at top 10 b schools. AGSM is an internationally reputed collg. AFAIK the placement is decent and highly depends on ur PR status. I'm not sure about your PR eligbility. Please check Department of Immigration & Citizenship for more details.

Salaries and placement reports are listed out in the AGSM website.

I got admit offer at a score of 690 in round 1. 10 years of IT experience..
Regarding PR, I think it should not be difficult if you have >4 yrs exp and 16 years of education. I was able to get in about 1 year time.

Hi All,

I have got the final admit as well. Here is a brief about my profile:

7 years of work experience in IT/BPO space.
2 years of International work experience as an IT Consultant.
GMAT: 730.

Has anyone been able to find out about the accomodation and student visa application procedure?

Cheers.

I am not sure about Student visa process, but if you have decided to accept the offer, then come to Sydney atleast 2 weeks in advance. Accommodation is a major problem in Sydney. You would need some time to find a decent accommodation.

Hi All,

I got the offer for Jan 2011 batch of AGSM few weeks back and I need to accept the offer most probably by this week end (the 4 week deadline !!!). Just wanted to know if anyone has sent the acceptance yet. I can really use some guidance now.

Also, if anyone has gone through the Visa process lately. Any tips there?

Thanks !!!
