Hello guys....
I ve been thinking in these lines for sometime now......It might be crazy...but just see if it makes atleast some percentage of sense....decide only after you ve read through my mail fully....
All TOP US B-schools want 5 yrs exp....
So what i thought was......why not do a one-year MBA first???.....am not talking abt the reputed b-school called ISB here...there are other smaller and lesser known colleges which offer a one-year MBA too........then work for some 2 years maybe......and then apply again to the US MBA....remember these last 2 years will count as work-ex in the mangement level...so in the end.....when ppl apply to US with 5 years exp(mayb fully in s/w).....i ll be applying with 2yrs s/w+1 MBA+2 yrs magement exp......it sounded good for me......the one-year MBA even if it is not of much value...But, it is a full-time degree tht might give me real 2 yrs exp in management level.....
While applying to the US again...i have a nice reason to tell the univs to do a second MBA cos......this one-year MBA does not offer a specialisation....it is more like a general MBA degree....ppl only choose electives of their interest in the second sem.....which will surely pale in comparison to a real specialisation.......
I would like your comments on this...
I ve still not decided on this move..iam just collecting opinions at this point of time...thats it...
Sarv...

you are living in a world of your own mate....
1) no school wants 5 yrs exp. they want quality. if you can give it to them in less. gud for you. in fact, schools like Wharton, Chicago, Stanford and some others wud prefer younger but mature ppl.
2) doing a one year MBA is not general management - it is in fact specialised. you are way off the mark here man...
3) 2 yrs post MBA for another MBA is ? you have got to explain why? schools really do not prefer second MBAs until and unless you have asolid reason behind it. needless to say lots dont.

This is a dangerous line of thot! i wudn't bet on it for anything.

Disclaimer: my comments. i am just a fellow applicant anyway.

Perfectly said... BTW sarv_iyer bhai...it seems you got ample amount of money and time to spend on first MBA... and then on second MBA... and essentially at the end you get what... nothing.. MBA be it indian or US... needs some concious decision..... dont go for it just for the heck ... .you would come out more frustrated ..... the best option will be to realise your area/domain you would be interested to make your career into and look for jobs right now itself... once you feel while working that there is a glass ceiling which only an MBA can help you cross... then go for it...

Best Luck...

D0000d!!!! Where did you get such ideas from?

Do you know that if you have an MBA, you will become ineligible to apply to some of the top schools? From what I've seen, US Bschools dont quite seem to like the idea of a second MBA. Australia I believe is more open to it.

Also, as nagpalkunal pointed out, 5 yrs is a not the min work ex reqd. Its the avg at most places. Schools like Harvard are known to take in freshers as well (very few in number, plus having a strong case for an MBA) as they bring in a fresh perspective to the classroom.
