@ayu22

Yes, you can.. !!

@avinashkrjha Hello, I have been shortlisted for SIOM ge/pi. I know its gd prep time, but pls can u help me know a bit into what "happens" in Operations.

I read some docs and googled much but everyone everywhere seems to threat me with technical terms and jargons that only serves as a 'exam time definition' purpose. Can u speak a bit abt it in lay-man's term or share some docs or links where-from i can know abt it in easy terms.
i have 2 yrs exp in IT industry, as a, what else, coder!!

@dotamama
I do not know much about BIMM Pune. You should try to connect with BIMM seniors on their thread.

Hope it helps :)
@jitrana Well, you are a software engineer and the interview panel would also not expect you to know all the operations jargon. But then they would definitely be interested in knowing your reasons to join SIOM and operations mainly. So prepare for the reasons why you want to make your career in operations profile.
I would just give you some idea about what operations is. Every business, big or small, product based or service based, involves a certain element of production and delivery of goods and service. So, Operations Management in its essence is all about studying, understanding and influencing the way organization manufacture and distribute goods and services. The products today are not competing on price but on availability and quality. So, operations management helps bridge this gap of demand and availability apart from many other functions they do.
Now some of the key concepts which they could ask to you are TQM, JIT, BPR, SCM, ERP.
Just understanding them would be good. You don't have to go in much details. They could also ask you the dell model of Supply chain and the difference between dell model and traditional model.
Reading something on FDI in retail and how it would transform India's warehouse problem and logistics would also help you.
I guess going through these would be enough for your preparation :)
Revert here, if there's still more doubts.

seniors plz list the colleges that must be applied.

@jitrana Read this thread and you'll understand what Supply Chain Management (Operations is just a part of this and the specialization is wrongly quoted here in India) is all about and what are the careers you can look forward to. So you'll get your answer for Why SCM/Operations also!!

How are new branches of existing colleges like? For example:
IIFT Kolkata , IMI Kolkata/Bhubaneswar , IMT Nag/Hyd. etc.

Bhai, kyun dara rahe ho?! :mg: :P

Mera Operations specialization hain aur yeh sab padke main darr gaya hoon, toh I can imagine what @jitrana must be feeling now! 😛 No offence meant to you @Red_Bull!

As far as I think, they'll not expect you to know ANYTHING in Operations other than "Why Operations"!! For which you'll need to know an overall idea of career prospects in that field/specialization, nothing more nothing less. And you'll then need to frame your answer for "Why Operations/SIOM" accordingly. All the terms and terminologies, if you know already then why would you do an MBA? Having an IT work exp, you're trying to start fresh, explore a new area and also get into the business side of things rather than being on technical side.

But yes this whole answer changes if you have a Mechanical Engineering background!! Then you'll be expected to know some of these terms & terminologies.
@ajaygovindg dara nahi raah hun yaar. Yeh mujhse yahan VGSoM ke interview main professors ne pucha tha :)
Dell model was their favorite aur us din sabse puch rahe the.
Well, maine bhi initially impression maarne ke liye bola tha ke I want to get into Operations only aur uske baad to meri jaise band hi baja di thi sabne :)
Isliye I told him to atleast just go through these concepts. Though not in details. Lekin agar puche to he shouldn't have a blank face.
Aur offense wali koi baat nahi hai. We after all are here to help the juniors and I don't see any harm in correcting someone who is going way off the mark.
