PI:

Panel Members Intro: 3 jovial Members, Left-most(L) seemed like an alumni, Center Prof(C) Seemed very experienced, Rightmost prof(R): Quiet for most of duration

Questions:

First they all stood up and handshaked with me , one by one and gave their intro, but I forgot their names :/

C:So, I see you have got the best final year project award. What was it about?

-Gave funda of the objective(related to supply chain resilience)

C: Asked lots of details and scenarios and asked how my model would have been applicable.

-Answered confidently

~10min so far

R: Why the job switch?

~answered(no much growth opportunity+MBA aligned with my career goals+remote location, so no support).. not much grilling

L: What do you do in your current role as online marketing analyst? Answered

L: Asked to explain in detail: Explained with examples

C:What if we, @IIM-B wanted to show ads on our homepage, which one would be relevant type of ads?
-suggested a few. They seemed satisfied, but nothing exceptional

L: your long term career goal, as to being in a position of responsibility, having ownership in an organisation and influencing decision making process, we hear it so many times from every1, say something from heart! C & R said yes , yes.:

-I didnot have anythin specific, so just smiled and exclaimed: More Responsibility!

they put it aside, making faces like ..rehne de..

L: Do you know about EdX?

No Sir

L: Well, it is an online training program, where you can get business stuffs and ideas , sitting right at home, why waste time and money coming here. Even we refer to it at times! Plus digital age...

-Well, Sir, 1st of all, online training can't substitute the physical interaction and intermixing of ideas, development of interpersonal & leadership skills, which are so important. Maybe online program makes life convenient and maybe we can follow them side by side with class, but it can never be a substitute in my opinion. And wrt money, loans can be repaid in 4-6yrs. Money is temporary while knowledge, ideas & skills are permanent.

~15 more min so far

Then all the interviewers stood up and shook hands when I was leaving, and (L) said ki:

'You are a very great person and you will be very much successful in life'

Thank You very much Sir. It means a lot to me.

PI: Questions and snapshot of answers:

There were two profs and one alumni

P1:So, , are you from a town named ?!

Me:No Sir, I am no where related to that place!

P1: Do you know how far away it is from town?

Me: I am not sure Sir, I can take a guess, may be 100-120 kms. (checked later,I was wrong, it was 10 kms away!)

A: So, you are working on XML? Can you show me a sample Schema design for XSLT?

Me: did, wrote a template on the board.

P1: Tell us about a decision you have regretted making.

Me: Can I have some time to think?

P1: Sure, the whole point of this interview is to make you think.

Me: Started giving them a prepared answer. Was cut short by P2

P2: So, you went XYZ college, What was the one thing you were doing differently than when you were at home?

Me: Sir, Of the top my mind, I started doing my own laundry.

P1: Ooh, so tell me, which is better, top load or front load washing machine?

Me: Sir, washing machines work on the principle of Centrifugal force, and incase of front-load, gravity acts in favour of this force, so may be front load is better.

P1: But when you wash by hands, the movement you perform is similar to the one in top load machine?

Me: I am not sure, but may be top load is better too!

P1: Final answer?Me: Top Load 😐

P1: Tell me the names of 4 professor in IIM B.

Me: Could recall only 3.

P2: So, you like watching movies

Me: There was a 5 minute discussion on some of the recent movies I have seen! They kept saying that I was picking on the movies instead of enjoying them and I tried convincing them that movies are a very powerful medium in India and a lot can be done to make them though provoking and informative as well as entertaining. But, i felt like I did not convince them through and through.

A: If you don't mind, can you tell us your CAT score?

Me: Told.

P2: So, let's say you got accepted into A,B,C, Which one would you go to?

Me: Sir, that is a decision I can make only after I do some more research.(He kept bludgeoning me through out the rest of the interview to pick up but I stood my ground and did not budge.)

P1: So, If Chiranjeevi becomes the C.M of A.P, will it make you happy or sad?

Me: Sir, it does not matter, the elections are going to be held soon enough to make any difference.

P1: That's ok, but would it make you happy or sad?Me: It would make me happy, I guess.

A: Asked me If I knew German in German 😛

Me: Ja! (That's yes in German :P)

A: Said some thing else, could not understand (he google translated)

Me: I do not understand what you are saying.

A: But, you mentioned it in your SOP..

Me: Sorry Sir, I still don't understand it.

P1: How do you think the interview went?

Me: I think it went well.

A: Are you sure, you could not translate the German questions?

Me: Yes Sir.

P1: Let her go, why are you trying to give her nightmares.

P1: You may leave.

-ve: I changed my answers for the washing machine and the CM questions. And could not answer the German qn.

+ve: But I did not fluster at any point and stood my ground for the A,B,C qn and the movies discussion.

Is there anyone (from NC-OBC) who has converted IIM-A and B both and will not join A?

I AM IN.

Hi,
Am applying for CAT 2014 and aspiring for 4 old IIMs- A,B,C,L... Acads: 10th- 87.8 %, 12th- 86.2, B.E-8.42 from Government Engineering College, Gandhinagar....by the time I join institute would be having 3+ years of experience in MNC in software development. Category: General
Can anyone please tell me if joining old IIM is actually feasible considering modest acads or will it be a distant dream.... Point to be considered: Modest acads, General category, Male, Engineering Background, Years of experience..... If yes how much I need to score in CAT??rolleyes From my research IIM A is next to impossible but Am not sure about IIM B, C, and L
