Explored the socio-economic-political cause and effect relationship in terrorism. Tried to address the "people input" necessary for perpetration and spoke a little about societal initiatives which could be taken to address the pain points.
Suggestion: Use the 10 minutes for the rough work well. It helps.

Interview: 2 Lady professors(L1,L2), 1 Alumnus(A)
L1: So Aman you work at XXX?
Me: Yes ma'am
L1: So you know what we are going to ask you?
Me: No ma'am, I don't know(smiling)
L1:(Smiles) OK. So is XXX going down and under?
Me: No ma'am. Over the last couple of years we have seen tremendous growth and the market is still very young. We have a large and loyal customer base. If these are not sufficient, we can take heart from the x million funding we have received from investors over the last year. (interrupted)
A: So Aman, I will share 2 business models with you. In one you have a small business, you generate profit and sustain it and in another you eat up private equity investment and burn money. Which one is better?
Me: The first one is definitely better sir, but I think there is a legit reason as to why the money is being burnt. Its a young market, lots of competition, price war scenarios etc. But with time fundamentals will change(interrupted)
A: What is the internet penetration in India?
Me: Sir it is around 13%.
A: And where is it concentrated around?
Me: Metro and tier 1 cities.
A: Then how can you say there is potential?
Me: Sir while the 13% number looks very small, in absolute terms that translates to about 15 cr internet users. This is the third largest internet population globally we are speaking about. Further, e commerce has penetrated a smaller set of those customers, so we have about 1 cr of registered users on our site(wanted to speak about income increase and movement of demographic dividend, but interrupted)
A: But 1 cr is very small. So again, I am doubtful about the potential.
Me: Sir, we should not just look at 1 cr a number in a silo, we should see how we have reached there. There has been a YoY growth of 200-300% customers and the ecommerce market is set to expand to 60 billion $ by 2023 according to industry reports. Given the trends, we can assume there is a huge fish to catch. (Missed the boat here, should have emphasized on the movement of income levels, tastes etc.)
L1: So Aman, you run?(Had mentioned about a half marathon and 2 100k walks). So what is the difference between walking and running?
Me: Spoke about the difference in energy usage, average walking vs running speeds and preparation required to do either. Tried to speak more on the 100K walk but was interrupted.
L2: So Aman you see Facebook acquired Whatsapp very recently. So now lets say facebook wants to enter the ecommerce market using whatsapp. What will be its revenue model?
Me:(Was taken aback a little. Honestly, I have been pretty skeptical about the acquisition in general so attaching another industry to supplant revenue was a new thought.) Ma'am I would like to take a minute to think.
Was given ample time to come back.
Me: Ma'am I think it is difficult to generate revenue from whatsapp as a standalone app. However, it can be closely integrated with a online retail application. What online retail lacks or falls behind right now is the cross user interaction. Having whatsapp will give you opportunities to interact realtime with friends/ colleagues on products. FB can market and sell those products and understand customer behaviour around this.
(In hindsigth, the idea was fine, however I should have focussed more on revenue sources. Could have mentioned about product vs service revenue, retail platform advertisements etc.. Tried to link it too much to traditional e commerce and it costed me a little here I feel)
A: So Aman, you worked in BASE24, how much do you remember?
Me: I remember a little bit sir.
A: So can you tell me what an on us transaction is?
Me: Explained with the help of an example. The answer was correct.
A: Do you know what rupay is?
Me: Roughly sir. It's an Indian solution on the similar lines of VISA and the transaction costs to the bank is lesser. But I am not aware of the specifics.
All: Thank you Aman, you may leave.

Me: Explained in detail (seemed okay with it, asked additional questions. Answered them all)
P3: What do you think is the reason behind Indian economy's current situation? Forget all the numbers like CAD etc. What do you think is primary reason behind all this.
Me: Started with the Licence Raj
P3: Interrupted. Whats the use of competition in 60s and 70s. If we had airlines then, they would not have made money right
Me: Airlines may have been too advanced, but transportation for instance scooters. Exemplified with Bajaj's arrest and case filed against him.
P3: (Wasnt convinced) Asked me to move on to current scenario
Me: Mentioned that we are moving towards less of savings, which saved us from 2008 recession, and more of credit based spending.
P1 and P2: Interrupted saying that more money floating around is better for the economy right?
Me: (Tried supplementing a couple of more times with other points but was retorted with numbers from P2, and additional points from P1 and P3 against me). In the end I gave up and said I stand corrected π
P2: Asked how many people worked under me, and if I have faced a difficult situation with any of them. If I was part of the problem or if I was part of the solution
Me: Explained an incident.
P2: That's good stuff
P3: Any other questions?

Panel Members Intro: 3 guys. On old guy, probably a professor (O), an middle aged corporate type guy (C) and a young pudgyguy in his pajamas, I think his name was Arnab (A)
Questions:
It was a round table. All three panel members were sitting together. At least 7 chairs were free.
C: Why don't you take a seat and introduce yourself?
Me: (Timidly pointed out at one of the chairs and ... ) Is this where I am supposed to sit?
C: Take any chair. They are all for you.
Me: (Felt like a moron). Thanks Sir. So, My name is xxxxxx xxxx(full name). I did my schooling from KV IAT pune. Then I went to high school at KV NDA Pune where I studied science.
C: KV NDA? Near Khadakwasla?(how did he know that?)
Me: That's right. After that, I did my engineering from CMRIT bangalore in ECE. For the past 4 years I have been working at OFSS bangalore where I currently work as a quality analyst.
C: OFSS. So do you follow Stock Markets at all?
Me: Not particularly. But I do follow a little bit.
C: What is unique about the stock listing of OFSS.
Me: (Blank Stare)
C: Let me elaborate. Oracle has various businesses. Like Data base, Java etc and then there is your banking software by OFSS. What is unique about OFSS stock?
Me: Not sure sir.
C: Do you own stocks(of your company).
Me: No sir.
C: OFSS is the only subsidiary of Oracle whose stocks are listed separately. All other stocks are merged with Oracle.(Well, I should have known this, but that's just me... ). That's because Oracle had plans to sell your company ..
Me: I had heard about Oracle wanting to sell. But that never took place....
C: Hmm..Do you have any other interests. What do you do apart from your work?
Me: (had mentioned about my interest in renewable energy in SOP) These days I spend my time thinking about various ideas in renewable energy field...
O: (Spoke for the first time) Renewable .....Energy....?
Me: Yes Sir.
C: Good. What are you doing about it these days?
Me: I am working on a new design. (For the next 2-3 mins, I explained the basis a design I had been working on)
C: Ok.. You seem to have got really good recommendations(referrals). All have spoken very positively about you.
Me: (With a silly smile) Oh ..well..
C: Did you pick all your referrals?..I mean..I am sure you would have..But...
Me: Yes sir. They are my previous and current managers.
C: So who is your client? Do you interact directly with them?
Me: No sir. I work on the kernel. That's the base software. Customer side customizations are usually done on the top of the kernel. So..
C: So you.. kind of ..work on the nerve centre. You don't actually work on client side?
Me: yes sir
C: Understood..( The tone gets serious here) I understand that you want to do an MBA. The question is why now?
Me: I have reached that stage in my career where I would soon begin interacting with clients and customers. Before that I would like to complete my formal education...(interrupted)
C: No. No. I understand your motive behind doing MBA. It makes sense. But..Thats not what we are asking.
O: Our question is..See, you have been working for 4 years..The exit cost for would be very high. What is your current salary?
Me: Around "X"
O: That's quite a lot. Why would you want to do MBA now?
Me: I think it would benefit me in the long....(interrupted)
O: No. I am not questioning "your" reasons behind doing MBA...Is this your first CAT attempt?
Me: No sir..
C: Did you write CAT last year?
Me: Yes.
C: Did you get any calls?
Me: No.
C: Do you have any other calls this year?
Me: Yes Sir.. IIM I.
O: Did you write CAT before that?
Me: yes sir. In 2010.
O: So this is your third attemp?
Me: Yes.
O: So why MBA now?
Me: (The past 10 questions went way above my head. I had no clue what they were looking for, and I still don't. They said something about exit cost. Those of you who get what they were asking, please reply and explain..Anyway I screwed up the "why now" question. I was thinking blank for a few seconds. And from this point it was all downhill)
O: Ok leave all that. Lets go to some mundane things (current affairs)..Do you know the difference between Bill and Ordinance?
Me: (Didn't know what ordinance is) Uhh..(interrupted)
C: There is a bill, there is an act and there is ordinance.
Me: An act is one which has been passed by the two houses of the parliament. A bill is just a suggestion which has not been ratified yet..
O: Right..It's just a proposal..
Me: Yes..I don't know what Ordinance is.
O: (frowned face). What is the difference between public limited and private limited company?
Me: A public limited company is one whose shares are traded freely in the stock market. A private company is one whose shares are not traded. They are held privately.
O: Is it mandatory that the shares of a public limited company must always be traded?
Me: (After thinking for some time) I think so. (O showed a frowned face again)
O: What is the difference between a trust and a society?
Me: (Again thinking)
O: Take IIMB as an example. What is it? Is it a private enterprise, GOI undertaking, trust, or society..?
Me: It's a GOI undertaking?
O: Hmm.. Tell me something you DON'T LIKE about IIMB?
Me: (Shocked) (Mumbling) Well.... I don't think I..Err..
O: You have been to IIMB website right? Tell me 2 ways to improve it?
Me: (Crapping in my pants) I think you could give some information about what distinguishes IIMB from other colleges. The information on the website was very general...
O: When was the last time you visited the website? Last Night?
Me: I think Last week...
O: Last week??..IIMB was in the news recently. We achieved some distinction. Only IIMB has it..Do you know what it is?
Me: (Blank for a couple of seconds)
O: (With a wicked smile) We didn't do anything. It just happened..
Me: Uhhh... No sir. I don't think I have read it..
O: So Bangalore has several constituencies right. Indian National congress has decided that the candidates of these constituencies will not be decided by the centre....Do you anything know about this?
Me: (blank)
O: You come form xxxxxx right. What constituency does it fall under.
Me: I think North Bangalore
O: North Bangalore was one of those constituencies. Have you read about what the policy is?
Me: No sir. I haven't
O: How many members of the parliament does the president elect?
Me: 12
O: So what criteria does he use?
Me: These are people who are achieved excellence in their respective fields..
O: But how would the president pick them. Based on a lottery?
Me: (Thinking for a few seconds) I think the president would have heard about them...(interrupted)
C: Do you know the names of the current 12 members.
Me: I know Sachin Tendulkar is one. I don't know the other 11.
O: Do you know that the members of the Rajya Sabha get some funds which they are free to spend on some public work in any constituency of their choice.
Me: Yes sir.
O: How much is the amount?
Me: 5 cr.
O: Correct. Recently two members of rajya sabha were in the news. They did not spend a single rupee on any development...
Me: Yes I had read about it. Sachin was one of them.
C: Who is the other one? (smiling) That person is related to Amitabh Bachchan...Well..not exactly related..But...
Me: I don't know sir.
C and O together: Rekha
Me: Oh...Ok
A: (speaking for the first time). I have a letter and it has 1000 words. It is six sigma compliant. How many words could be wrong at a maximum? (or maybe it was alphabets, can't remember)
Me: I don't know.
A: You are a quality analyst right.
Me: Yes sir..But I am involved in software testing. I never used six sigma standards.
A: Have you heard of six sigma atleast?
Me: yes sir. But never used.
A: What is the difference between a stub and a driver?
Me: (Explained something about stubs. Don't think they were satisfied. Told them I didn't know about drivers)
A: You must have used stubs in testing right.
Me: Yes. We get stubs from developers when there is a need to run some unit of the software on an adhoc basis..(or some crap like that. I don't even remember what I said)
A: can you repeat what you said about stubs?
Me: (Told something similar crap like that. A gave up)
C: So tell me something. How many IIMs did you apply to?
Me: I had applied to all IIMs sir.
O: How many IIMs are there?
A: (Before i could answer O) How many calls did you get?Me: (Looking at O) 13. (Looking a A) 2 sir.
A: Which is the other IIM?
C: (Before I could answer A). If you have a call from IIMB, obviously you would have got calls from new IIMs like Lucknow etc.
Me: (Looking at A) Indore sir. (Looking at C). No sir.
C: (surprised)Why not?
Me: I think I didt not clear the CAT cut off?
C: Really? (Looking at O) is the cutoff list out?(O shrugged his shoulders). (Looking at me) What was the cut off there?
Me: I think it was around 97
C: What's your cat score?
Me: 93.8
C: I see. Don't get me wrong.. We are not judging based on CAT score right now..
Me: I understand sir.
O: So how do you think your interview went.
Me: I was lagging on my current affairs....
O: Is it because you are not interested in current affairs at all or..
Me: Its not that I am not interested..Its something I need to work on...
C: Ok..Do you have any questions for us?
Me: No sir.
C: Superb.. Thank You..
Me: Thank you.

Topic: An Indian company strictly maintains its tradition(vegetaranism and non-alcoholism). It is going global by acquiring outside India. What should the firm do, maintain its tradisionalism? Discuss.
Brief Snapshot of the attempt: Explained Gujrat has strict non-alcoholism, then also is doing great. But on the other hand an employee should be free to choose, that ways they can engage in what they do best: innovate.

Panel Members Intro: 3 guys.
Questions:
Q: So you work at XXX. What is it that you do?
A: Explained.
Q: But this should have been automated by now. So what do you do?
A: Said new requirements keep coming. Explained the previous and present projects.
Q: What are derivatives?
A: Answered.
Q: What was the role of your company in bringing down AIG during 2008 crisis.
A: Said it was AIG's fault as it took so much risk and did not prepare for the worst.
Q: Why is your form so much talked about?
A: From Students' perspective: Pays well. (Not convinced at all)
Q: Repeated the same question
A: Good culture. Values employees. Good relations in financial industry. (They did not seem convinced again!)
Q: But isn't working there stressful?
A: Yes it is. Believe me, I have experienced it. But you get rewarded accordingly.
Q: You seem like an all rounder. When was this mini-marathon(had written about winning a mini-marathon in SOP).
A: Ran mini-marathon in College first year.
Q: How long was this?
A: 5 km
Q: How much do you still practice, do you run as part of your company's team?
A: No sir, I run as part of routine exercise and play various sports during weekends. I paint in my free time.(No further questions asked)
Q: Do you think you are lucky?
A: Yes sir.
Q: So what do you do for the ones who are not as lucky as you?
A: I go to an organisation near my home. Take part annually in company's social initiative.
Q: Do you think CSR is successful?
A: Not to the full extent. There should be continuous engagement to understand needs and work in a feedback driven fashion. If I start my own company, I will make sure to carry this out.
Q: So you want to start your own company?
A: If I get a chance, sure sir.
Q: Why is starting a company buzzing around so much these days?
A: Sir starting a company generates more employment. Working for a company is in a way working in a protected shell.
Q: Do you think Satya Nadella is protected in his job?
A: No sir, but there are multiple challenges to be worked on in a startup from all directions but not many challenges in an established firm. Somehow brought in whatsapp(very bad example!)
Q: Whatsapp is not even earning anything!(I had a chance to score golden points in these questions but somehow messed up)
Continued further... Let's hope you start your own company. If you do, find us in 15 years and tell us your experience.
There was room to do a lot better.

ESSAY: Public-private partnership in once upon a time PSU-dominated sectors.. welcome or not?
Took a supporting stand. Gave reasons for PSUs holding a major share in these sectors and exemplified that partnerships are okay as long as those ideals aren't compromised. Gave reasons for the necessity of a partnership such as capital reqmt in a time of fiscal deficit, capitalistic entity-profit making attitude in a business to boost performance, access to technology, patents and similar blah blah blah with a few examples.. (managed to cramp it in a page, no heed to word limit)

PI:
Panel had 3 members. A serious looking man in mid 30s(A), A pleasant woman in early 30s(B) and an old guy hiding behind a Laptop, but the most dangerous of the lot(C)
Me (entered room and stood for a few seconds till offered a seat)
C: U look Tired. Feeling sleepy after a big lunch in our canteen??
Me: Not at all Sir. In fact, haven't had my lunch either.
C: (shocked) To avoid the risk of feeling sleepy???
Me: I think that would be a better reason than the truth which is -I lost my appetite from being nervous
A: Ha Ha.. Don't worry.. we are just going to have a conversation.. So U are in the Lube dept.. Explain a Lubricant to a layman..
Me: Explained (with dramatic hand gestures)
A: From what I gather from the web, U add additives to oil.. isn't oil a lubricant?
Me: Explained. Oil is a lubricant, additives are performance boosters.. + more technical blabbers
A: I guess the entire thing can be automated. If so, wat is it that u do?
Me: My responsibility is to plan meticulously to cater to a national demand of more than 10000Kls with a plant capacity of 750 Kls in a very dynamic market. Aanndd my plant is an age old plant-meaning all activities are manual and am supposed to supervise it all as well.
B (smiling): So did u follow the interim budget? Any news for ur oil company?
Me: Yes mam.. The subsidy payment promised for Jan-april by the govt, around 40000 cr has been postponed to the next fiscal.. bottomline- no profit booking for us OMCs in this fiscal.
B (satisfied): So what is the major problem with our oil sector?
Me: Begins with the origin of raw material. We import most of our crude oil reqmt
B: what percent?
Me: 80% mam..that forms the basis of the trade parity pricing
(further qns on trade parity + CAD.. answered)
C: (interrupted and enters in full form.. rest of the interview is a convo with this guy only)
U have a wonderful Job and a bright future in this stream.. Why an MBA?
Me: started with my default clich Ε ans but C interrupted.. WHY MBA LEAVING ALL THIS??
Me: Sir, it has more to do with following my dream. I envisioned myself to become a corporate leader and am prepared to do what it takes to reach there. And Sir, change is not something to be paranoid about. Nokia was a saw mill and Wipro sold vegetable oils, but now. . .(interrupted again) C: I didn't ask if change is gud or not (this guy is determined to give me a hard time)
Me: I just wanted to illustrate though a sense of complacency settles in a everythin-is-good scenario it isn't advisable to get comfortable with it..
B (Thankfully to the rescue): one of your referees says U have become an expert in ur field in such a short time.. Really?? (smiles dubiously)
Me (making a mental note to build a temple for that referee) I guess he was trying to say I have good grasping abilities. And mam , before you decide to test my so called expertise in my field, I totally acknowledge that I have not mastered it and its not wat he meant!
B(Laughs) A few mentors?
Me: Dirubai ambani, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs (C comes in again interrupting)
C: Know something common btwn them?None hav an MBA.. Y U want 1?(this guy is on a mission :-/)
Me: (blabbered a bit) They were gifted geniuses and I wouldn't like to take a risk by assuming myself to be on the same calibre as them.. (and blabbered some more. . .)
A: U hav workd purely in a very technical section. How wud u handle becoming a Gen manager?
Me: Sir, removing the technicalities my job is just plain supervision and planning and I believe this is required for any manager.. (lookd nervously at C preparing myself for a next assault)
C: I am done.. are u guys done? Okay then, U can leave..
Me(heaved a sigh of relief) Thanked every1 individually.. Left
(A few other qns in between.. forgot.. overall lasted for 20 mins max)

Do we need to attest ant documents or carry photocopies of mark-lists ? Can anyone who has attended the interview shed some light on this ?
What is the expected date of final results? Kindly reply if anyone has previous years dates. thanks.
Hello Friends!!! could anyone please tell me what is mainly expected from our essays... content or style?? The word limit is just 200-250 words. So how do they decide on whom to select on the basis of a small write-up (that too on a current topic which almost everyone must have prepared on and there are high chances of them having similar opinions). Also,in some cases the interviews are general interaction type. What do they try to find out in the PI? Does the CAT score play any role in the later stages of the selection procedure??
