Hi Vijay,
Thanks for opening this thread.
I would be applying to IIMB PGSEM probably through GMAT this year.Yet to give GMAT.Also writing CAT but somewhat not convinced of CAT scoring so submitting through GMAT.
I have around 2.5 Years of experience and would like to know whether someone having 3 years of joining faces any hindrance experience wise or any other reasons. Also whats the ideal experience to apply to PGSEM.
Also if I submit my PGSEM scores though CAT in the online form can I apply to PGSEM later through GMAT or give the PGSEM test later ?
Hi Nayas,
I believe there will not be any hindrance with the low work experience...around 10-15 % of the batch are in the experience 2-5 years. So if you have a good test score, you should be in a good position to get an interview call.
The average experience of PGSEM usually used to be in 6-7 yrs range.
When you apply for PGSEM separately, you will have the option to submit which score you would like the admission committee to consider. So no worries if you checked the PGSEM option in the CAT form now. However only one test score can be submitted in the final PGSEM application.

In my experience, a person with lesser years of experience should have an extremely competitive CAT score. The minimum CAT score (that I've heard people with lots of experience get through with) is around 96 percentile.
Regarding the maximum, we had people in our class who got calls from IIMs for the full-time PGP programme, but yet chose to join the PGSEM. So that makes the full range there...
An open house is scheduled on November 21 @ IIMB campus.

with regard to the open house, it will involve a panel discussion of PGSEM alumni, some insights into the course, format and its rigor by students and admission committee/faculty. You can clear any of your doubts w.r.to PGSEM from students and panel. I will post the official agenda once finalized.

Hi Vijay,
I have got 97.9%tile in CAT' 10 and have around 2.5 yrs of experience as a Software Engineer. The acads and extra curriculars are decent.
Do you think its going to be very difficult for me to get selected given my low work ex?
Please tell, what are the things I should focus on. I mean what are the things which can help me get selected even at a low work ex. What are the expectations of interview panel from people with my kind of profile?
Also, the application talks about the approval letter from the company. Are we supposed to provide it now itself or can it be submitted at a later stage?
Thanks.

yaar koi apply nhi kar raha hai kya PGSEM ke liye ........ why this thread is almost dead.
Somebody pls reply .........
Hi All,
I have a CAT OA percentile of 97
. But the problem is the sectional in one section DI is 66.67 percentil :banghead::banghead::banghead:e. I am not sure if this would warrent a call by IIB for PGSEM. should I use this score and apply for PGSEM, or should I write the PGSEM test in february..
Thanks
Hi Santiago,
I am sorry for the late reply.
In my honest opinion, your score is good enough for the interview call provided the sectionals are not so bad. Experience should not be an issue with this score.
Write a good SOP. Prepare well for the interview and essay.
And for your Qn on inactive thread, I can't comment

Hi Sidhath,
I am exteremly sorry, I cannot comment on your score. Your OA is really good enough, but 66.67 in DI is giving me a doubt...
If you have prepared well for CAT and still fresh with your preparation, PGSEM test should be easy for you. Please give a thought on that front also...

Hi Vijay,
Thank you for your reply so fast. what I wanted to know was, Do they actually look for sectional cutoffs, I do not want to risk the call by writing another exam ,.. just in case this sectional is not considered.... If the chances of getting a call at this percentile is less, then I will write the PGSEM..:(
Hi Sidharth,
I understand your situation; however i don't have credible source to point to confirm 66%ile is OK. I am sorry, IMHO, this seems to be a problem, its a 50-50 chance.

Vijay
