GD/PI experience:
we first had the written evaluation.. a topic was given.. blank A4 sheet.. 15min flat to think and write.. no word limit.. extra sheet can be availed of if required.. we were told that we can get our topic changed if the majority says so. however, we can not revert to the first topic if the second is equally difficult.

well the topic was something related to the women reservation bill.. i am not very good at writing.. so will rate my essay as average..

next up we had our gd.. out of the group of 12, 9 were present. we were guided to a small room where the 3 panelist were waiting for us.. again for the gd, we had a choice of getting the topic changed.. but we can not revert to the initial topic.. my topic was something related to the NREGA scheme.. the gd went well for me.. the group as a whole performed well.. lots of facts were brought in and everybody chipped in with their views and comments. the volume level didnt rise at all, and it was the most SOPHISTICATED GD i'v ever been a part of. So overall, GD was good..:cheerio::cheerio:

we were told to sit on the chairs outside the room. one by one, we were called by the PI..
The PI didnt go well for me. wasnt able to word my answers properly, and hence couldnt present my ideas well enough.. the panelist were looking for short and crisp answers, and i had the opposite to offer.. just 2 ques on acads, answered 1 and had no clue abt the other. rest we discussed abt my college, placements, etc.. was told me tell in brief abt my goal.. was also asked abt what drives me crazy.. the PI lasted for just 7-8min... overall, PI was bad..

the entire process lasted for abt 2.5 hours.. :cheerio::cheerio::cheerio:

P.S. none of the guys from my group faced a stress interview..:w00t:
P.P.S they hardly touched acads..
P.P.P.S they didnt ask anyone about other calls/converts..
P.P.P.P.S would request abhimukh saar to also include the point COURSES APPLIED FOR (pgdm, hr, both) in the above format

@seniors if cat score is not to be considered at this stage, then why were our cat score cards provided to the panelists??

newaz ALL THE BEST TO EVERYBODY...

Hello everyone
CaT %ile 97

Center Delhi IMI

Today was my GD/PI

A nice experience all i can say

The college people were very polite and helpful

The topic for Essay was Women reservation in Parliament, women empowerment
We were given a time of 15 mins for writing
Then there was the GD
the topic for GD was

"Recession and its impacts on India"
As expected, due to a debatable topic everybody made a fish market out of it

Hardly anybody's voice could be heard clearly
Could spoke only two to three times but everybody started shouting after that so was interjected most of the times

The interview went nice i guess for nearly 10 to 15 minutes
There were three panelists, one of them was just looking at my reactions all the time, and towards the end raised some basic HR questions
No stress at all at any point
Was not grilled at all anywhere
Asked usual questions regarding, introduce yourself, Why MBA, and why not MA Eco since i m from eco background
A few more basic questions were asked
Answered them esily and they were all smiling all the time
They asked me any one topic on which i was comfortable
I said Stock Market
They asked a couple of questions and easily i answered them
No academics was asked
They also asked that how did you find the GD and i told them not good at all as people were just trying to gain max opportunities without letting anybody else
Finally they shook hands with me and asked me to go

Senoirs please advise how it was??
What chance do i have after such PI

essay writing was fine.topic:women reservation in Parliament & women empowerment

GD:had a panel for 13 ppl,bt 4 were absent,so were left with 9.
topic:should Indian education system be changed?
quite easy topic,so lots of points to speak.bt eventually it turened out to be a fish market & hence our gd was stopped midway,& then each student was asked to speak for a minute(had actually thot he wud cancel our gd bt thankfully he jst converted its form)

PI was really pathetic for me.worst PI till date!3 panelists.
P1 was speaking the most(& sorry to say bt I found him very rude, jst wasnt leting me speak .only wanted short, direct answers!)
P2 was a gentleman sitting quietly all the tym
P3 was a lady
P1: y u chose this colg
me:explained tht basically wanted my field
P1:any placements?
me:no
P1:y
me:new colg
P1:have u applied from outside?
me:yes.hav couple of interviews in few days
P3(luking at the marksheets xerox):u have datawarehousing as a subject.tell me abt t.where is it used.
me:(couple of mins answered her queries abt the subject)

P1:wht do u read in business?any magazines?
me:nt much
P1:then y MBA?
me:being from a business family....
P1:which business?
me:import of wireless components..
P1:from where?
me:CHina & Singapore
P1:wht documents r required for tht?
me:dont remeber the term for tht sales doc
P1:how do u pay?whts china's currency?
me:dnt remember
P1:Singapore's?
me:singapore dollar
P1:so u pay directly in tht
me:no US dollars.acc to exchange rate
P1:who decides the exchange rate
me:world bank
P1:which 1?
me:no idea
P1:wht tax u pay in importing
me:excise duty(y the hell didnt I remember Customs!!! )
P1:u dont now the basics of business,y r u here
me:(tried to explain I hav no intention of joining family business,bt he jst wont let me complete!)

At the end,he literally commented:we give Master in Business,nt bachelors.gt ur basics right before coming!!go!

it was the worst of my pi experiences!
didnt even touch on any of my strengths!every1 in my panel was asked technical questions.& I was well prepared for it.instead I was askd this crap!!
damn my bad luck!

anyways...ATB to all aspirants.I'm sure u'l do much better than me.IMI is gone for me!

Hey,

Just to give u an example , i had 95.15 last year and cut off was 95 ,but i still made it first list of both HR and PGDM and 99%tilers came through waitlists :)

Nice to see people coming forward with their experience , great to see u guys here :)

All d best to everyone 😃

I think purpose was to take a stress interview , and they were checking if you could hold your nerves mate , this is all a part of the process but that doesnt decrease or increase your chances but depends how well you handled your nerves

PS: if i am not wrong you were interviewed by one of the best professors for marketing in the country 😃

ya..I had guessed it already.only an experienced person can be so confident in making the other person feel guilty of y was he thr!!!
anyways,no complaints nw...bt I still think,as every1 has told me,in MBA interview panelists want to knw abt u,in which areas u r gud,& bad....bt in this one..I was nt even allowed to speak anythng out of the bounds of his questions..all in all...a very learning experience, though at the cost of admission in IMI

I was told in the interview that I showed all qualities that made me fir for HR, even though I specifically told them that I was more interesting in marketing, even tho I had applied to both its courses. I knw its too early to ask 😛 and they wont even gimme a call for either. but does this mean I shud rule out PGDM?

No i suppose i was also told that i should take HR but i said that i have inclination for finance, and i converted both

So dont rule out anything as of now

Though the thread is meant for GD/PI experience but just thought to share this amazing piece of news through a corporate journal:

IMI Delhi:
Dr. Pritam Singh will join RPG Group, as Professor & Director General at IMI Delhi on 7th April 2011. Dr. Pritam Singh is a management guru who has devoted his life to the development of management who has devoted his life to the development of management education in India and abroad. As Director, IIM Lucknow and Director MDI, Gurgaon, Dr. Singh has contributed significantly. His distinguished services were acknowledged by the country when the President
of India conferred on him the prestigious 'Padam Shri' in the year 2003. He is on the Board of a number of Companies like Godrej, Hero Honda, Lanco, Dena Bank etc.
In addition to his role as Professor of the Institute, he will also provide leadership with the objective of substantial improvement in its ranking. Dr. Singh will also play a coordinating role and extend required administrative and advisory support to IMI Kolkata and IMI Bhubaneswar.

Now, you all can understand the focus of institute to attain an unmatched position in the intellectual capital. It is good to see, that people understand the quality of the institute & the difference in the way it is being perceived as, hence improvement in ranking gets a mention.
I am sure, anyone remotely linked to management would know the standing of Dr. Pritam Singh.

As a proud alum, I alongwith my other batchmates as well as the corporates who know IMI have always been more then confident about IMI's intellectual prowess (especially when you see input mechanisms of other high ranked B-schools). Now with a leadership of this calibre, I am sure IMI is heading for something big.

Ruchir Verma

Essay Topic : Do MBA people need to be taught manners?
It was a very general topic. So didn't had much of a concrete content to write. Still I think I wrote an average essay.

GD Topic : Women Reservation Bill: Do we actually need it?

We were just 7 people in our group. So it was a healthy discussion. I spoke second and talked about the need to empower women first at the grassroot level rather than giving them the reservation in Lok Sabha. I spoke about women empowerment makes more sense if the education and health awareness in women is increased. Then I talked about how if reservation bill is passed, people like Lalu will field his wife and daughter as candidates and that will not benifit anyone as the main focus should be to give a good leader to the people no matter what. In the end I just pitched in with the point that if the bill is passed, reshuffling of the seats will have to be done and even if a leader is doing well in his constituency, he will have to leave it.

Overall I was satisfied with my performance :cheerio:(except that I fumbled once while speaking)

PI :
3 people in the panel.

P : So tell me abt urself.
Me : Started well..bt god knows why got nervous in b/w but did not fumble. So i hope they didn't notice.

P : What is in the news recently? (Had said that i like to stay updated)
Me : Talked abt Japan earthquake and tsunami and now there is a danger of nuclear radiations in the area and how it will be a great threat to the people there.

P : Do you know anything abt the budget?
Me : Spoke for abt 2-3 minutes. Told them everything that I knew. :cheerio:

(Meanwhile one of them said what should we ask you, you dont even have work-ex):lookround:

P : Do you read anything else related to progress in your field other than the textbooks?
Me : Talked abt cloud computing for abt a minute.

P : Asked me about one of the things I mentioned in the form in academic achievements.
Me : Told

P : Has there been any incident in ur life when u have been looked down upon?
Me : Told something, not satisfied:oops:

P : So assume that u r working and u r one of those hard working guy but you dont get a promotion while one of ur colleague gets it with the help of his social skills. What wud u do?
Me : Told that I would go to my boss and show him the contribution that I have made to the organisation and the amount of work that I have done according to my skills etc. And then I would request him to consider my request, not emphasizing too much on taking the promotion back from my colleague. And if it doesn't work out, i would write to the head of the company abt the matter.

P : Dont you think writing to the head would turn ur boss against u?
Me : blabbered something

P : Now assume ur boss is taking credt of the work that u r doing. What wud u do?
Me : Thia is a kind of tricky situation. First i would discuss it with him about it and if it doesnot work out, I will have to look upon the feasibility of quitting the job. If my financial condition is well enough then I may consider this but if my family needs me to continue with my job, then i would put my family above all.

P : Why are u doing ur mba right now? Why not work somewhere?
Me : Told

P : Which are the top IT companies of India.
Me : Infosys and TCS

P : Have you read that book about Google?
Me : No (and then talked something about google)

ALL : Thank you so much.

I think i had an average essay, decent gd and average pi. Considering that i am fresher and 10% weightage is for the work-ex, my chances are slim. Still it was a good experience.:cheerio:
