Dear Puys,

The GDPI process of SIMSR kicks off today.
Kindly use this thread to discuss your GDPI experiences.

:cheerio: All the best to everyone!!! :cheerio:

Cheers,
Mani,
PGDM - Marketing (08-10)

Hey Puys and fellow SIMSR aspirants, I had my GDPI session today.

Venue - IIFT Delhi
Slot - 9:00 am
Course applied - PGDM (Finance)
CAT Percentile - 94.89

Well, the process was indeed very well conducted and timelines set for each component was strictly adhered to (Very impressed)

After completing the registration, we were shown a small presentation about SIMSR. It was to the point and crisp and clearly brought out the strengths of the college.

This was followed by an Essay - We were given two topics, from which we had to choose one. The time alloted was 15 mins. (Dont think mentioning the topic would be great help, I am sure they have different topics for all slots)

Then we had a psychometric test. This was perhaps the most boring part of the whole process. 90 questions in 30 mins.

GD Round - Thirteen of us were in the group and the discussion was on a caselet . We were initially given two minutes to read, followed by a 90 second extempore (obv on the case; for all), followed by a 13 minute discussion. The Extempore was just about ok. GD ended up in a bit of a fish market. Just gave my points (spread over the GD) and kept mum.

Mind you, the moderators may not tell you when to start discussing after all the extempores are over.

PI

The interview had two panelists. Lets call them Left (L) and Right (R), and ofcourse me (M)

R - So... Why dont you tell me somethig about yourself
M - Have work ex of almost two years, physics graduate, spoke on extracurriculars and leadership positions held in the past. Mentioned that I was the Treasurer of the Interact club in school...... L started smiling
L - Well, I used to be the president of my interact club (Smiles all around)
R - Which field do u want to specialise in and why
M - Blah blah .... Total gyan - Linked physics and my work ex to Finance (Smiles all around)
R - You said that you have studied physics honours, why dont u want to get into research ... PHd etc.
M - Gave gyan... Said that even though I thoroughly enjoyed physics (Liar Liar), I was more drawn towards fin... Spoke abt some additional courses I did... Spoke abt how the growth story of the Indian Economy has encouraged me to take a managerial path.. (R looked convinced)
R - So M, do you read about the developments in the Financial Sector
M - (Now your talking baby) Spoke a lot on the US recession and How it has impacted the rest of the world.... Spoke about Spain, Greece, Ireland Budget deficit problem etc etc
R - So do you also read up on other things...
M - (I knew that If I went into GK, he would grill me on politics) Spoke abt some novels that I have read....
R - What is your role in your firm?
M - Blah Blah... Gave them the description, told them why I joined, and what I have done so far.
L - (All this while he was reading my profile sheet) I have just one question for you.... Can you link Physics to Management in 3-4 sentences.
M - Said something, it made sense.... Smiles all around

I think I had a decent experience here... Shall certainly hope for the best!

All the best puys!

Well seems you had fun and a nice interview and GD..
But it would be great if you could share the Essay topics and the GD topic..
just to give a fair idea to all other aspirants on what can be the topics for the same.. ( if you are interested in sharing 😉 )

Sure Mate,

The Essay topics were

1. The essence of a good manager (Chose this)
2. MBAs make good entrepreneurs (or something like this)

The GD was a case study centered on the low percentage of women representation in Management positions. We had to discuss the reasons and the path that corporates should take to tackle the unfair representation.

All the best!

I am not too sure of the whole thing, but I think they mentioned that CAT would have a 50% weightage

Well, the psychometric test is not something hard.... Its just a personality assessment test. Just answer what comes naturally to you. There is no need to give diplomatic answers

I had my GD/PI yesterday i.e. on 17th March 1:30 PM slot at IIFT Delhi. Here is my experience:

Essay topics- Is the boom in IT over?
or
Social responsibility of Media.

A psychometric test of 30 minutes.

GD- Case Study based

Everyone was to be given 90 seconds to give their views on the Case.

After that there was to be an open house discussion for 12 minutes. In the end someone would be asked to summarise.

What happened:

There was hardly anyone who spoke for full 90 seconds.

Open house discussion turned into fish market:banghead::banghead: and as soon as it was announced that time is over one guy summarised without being asked to do so :banghead::banghead:

P.I.-

Lasted for about 8-10 minutes. The panelists were really cool.. no stress interview

almost everyone was asked about the specialization they had chosen..

job profile was asked..

all in all a nice experience..

Cheers!!

Hi,

need to call admission office.. does anyone know which no to call on?

Can you tell us what was the case study like?/

Can any of the puys who are done with the process throw some light on this..

1.) The essay is something to be written in 15 minutes and not oratory thg involved here..Right?

2.) In GD, all are given chance to speak for 90 seconds after which they have to start discussing on topic..?

3.) Do we have to select the specialization before hand before joining college. Is it mentioned in the form and is there any flexibility to change it going forward?

Thanks for ur time and inputs..

Is there a single panel for a particular slot or many ? And are the panelists asking anything from the Profile sheet or is it being submitted in the beginning only ?

Hi puys,

I have a small stupid question...
we all are given 90 secs to give our views on the Case based GD..
So do we have to elaborate the topic in detail in those 90sec or do we have do directly give our likely solutions ???

A bit confused as what actually is to be said in those 90 secs... ???

I've nt received my Call later over e-mail or in physical form, however I've done with my GDPI....

Will it creat any problem in later stage???

(Pardon me for posting duplicate here..from old K J Somaiya thread..)
