PGDM - IB-I

Hi Piramel,
This is kashish here. I have been working in TCS from past 15 months. I want to know at what percentile in CAT should I expect a call from the institute?
will my work ex play any role in that?

thanks,
Kashish.

Hi Kashish,

This is vivek here, i am a student of PGDM- IB 2nd year at KJ SIMSR, and before this i was working with Career Launcher, Pune for two years, well thts abt me..

coming to ur query...i think with a work ex of 15 months behind u and assuming tht u have not quit ur job u will have arnd 2 years work-ex with u at the time of the calls being dispatched..so i think a score of arnd 90-93%ile should get u a call from here...

All the best for ur preps...

Vivek

Thanks alot vivek!!!

looking forward to your institute.

kashish.

hey seniors i am an engg grauduate who passed ot this yr. well am placed but due to turmoil in the IT domain my joining has been postponed. so i am taking up cat this yr. can u tell me wat kind of percentile do i need 2 get a call from simsr? and how much weightage does cat score have in the final selection

Hi,
what min %le should be enough to fetch a call for a guy with 3.5 yrs of exp. what is the placement scenario in Kj.

hiee all,
this is Dhiraj, a 1st year pgdm student from K.J. Somaiya. this is in regards to all the queries redarding percentile requirements. Well for last few years cut-offs have been at 91%ile, i belive this would remain the same this year too. But the conversion is around 93 to 94 %ile and above.

Work-ex or fresher, your conversion depends on ur performance in gd-pi, and the faculty judging you. So give your best performance on d day. percentile then is not just a big issue, it is just for initialo call (not only for SIMSR bt true for all the insti).

All THE BEST.

Dhiraj Kumar Agarwal

hiee agn,

I just forgot to mention that there r no sectional cut-offs.

Nd as far as placements are concerned they are decent enuf. And i belive that once you start working, you get to earn at your caliber within 3 years. B-School just facilitate for your initial salary. So an advice, dont stress too much on placements while selecting an institute.

Dhiraj Kumar Agarwal

hey puys,

i will just post some quick facts.....the CAT cut off %ile this year was 91.......expect it to go up to atleast 92-93 this year..........last time i think that 100 marks were allotted to CAT scores.....35 to GD.....50 to PI, 10 to essay, 5 to psychometric and due weigtage was given to work ex and acads....

The placement scenario can be checked out at Welcome to SIMSR

Other info can also be found at this site.......the placement figures this year are expected to touch around 7.73 lakhs p.a.

hi sir..
last year meri KJ SOMAIYA ki call thi...(91.18%)
maine attend bhi ki thi...
i gave a decent interview as well...(according to me of course).. 10th aur 12th mein 70+ hai...degree(BTECH IT) maine is saal khatam ki hai.. with around 66.5 %..

what i want to know sir is that why in the world did they reject me... was it that i didn't have any work ex?? or was it something else... and sir do u know any fresher of ur batch(PGDM) who has cleared it with a borderline case of 91+..

Hi Friends,

I am wokiing with an Indian IT major since 2 years

Just wanted to confirm the Fees for the PGDM course.

As per the site, I guess it comes to less than 2.5 lacs per annum

With the placement statistics mentioned, I think it makes for a very good ROI :)

Can you elaborate on the fees and Total expenses

Thanks

There is no clear cut answer to ur question....but i will try my level best to explain what B-Schools (SIMSR included) look for in potential students

Confidence, Attitude, Communication skills, work - ex, energy, etc...

Work-ex is a very important factor.....but it is definitely not the only factor.....i am sure that there are a couple of students in PGDM and PGDM (IB) , who are freshers and have CAT scores between 91 and 92....but they more than make up in the level of enthusiasm, confidence, comm. skills and aptitude that they bring to SIMSR.

My suggestion to u would be not to give up hope and to come back even stronger next year.....if u have that X factor in u, there is no reason for u not getting into SIMSR....keep ur hopes and chin up.

Well....about the fees....its Rs 1,10,000 for one year college fees and
about 40K for the hostel. That makes the total come to Rs 2,20,000 + hostel fees for the entire course....laptop is not included in the fees.....so thats an extra 35 - 45K.

The placement figures mentioned on the website are accurate.....

The ROI that u r considering is right.........and attractive.........no doubt bout that.........
but please do not compute the ROI in just monetary terms....the non-monetary benefits are priceless......we have got the best faculty....many of our faculty are from IIM's and such colleges, having approximately 15 - 25 years of industry experience. Its actually a pleasure to listen to these faculty members share their experiences.

The ROI is much more than u can even imagine my friend.

The cat cutoff %ile is the same 4 people with work-ex and for freshers....but ur workex will be counted at the time of the GD/PI process.

Hey thanks a lot...

Please excuse me, the reason I calculated in monetary terms was coz thats the immediate picture in front of aspiring candidates

In fact many guys end up lookin only at placement stats, not even considering the cost and return the way I did

However, I m glad to read ur response n really lookin forward to SIMSR KJS

Thanks again

Can seniors pls tell me whether KJ Somaiya offers any specialisations or it gives general PGDM?

k j som (SIMSR) offers 5 specializations Marketing, Finance, H.R. ops and International Business.

You can choose ur spec after first year, first year is common 4 everyone. Only for International Business (IB) u have to make this spec choice b4 joining the course (though the 1st year is same for IB also)
thegr81pary thx for ur reply. can u tell me whether we have to apply separately for IB and general prgm? selection process different?

guys

KJ Somaiya is a very decent college by any standards...and don't think the placement shd be a problem...we r one college who gives accurate placemnt stats don wry abt those
