Anyone here applying for MICA this year? Still in the process of deciding whether to apply as a course there would narrow my options w.r.t. my career.

One question ( quite sure this hasn't been asked in previous threads)

What is the kind of job that one gets when he/she graduates from MICA? Especially in the field of the media? Would be great if someone from the school could reply!

Anyone else who is goint to apply?

me me me me me

i'm going to apply to.
since i got all my info from you, me posting here is redundant :)

but there's a list of recruiters on the mica site for anyone else who is interested.

Micsa is a grt institute.
PPl eventually dont join mica just because they have better mktg, fin options.
Mica is the best place in the country i guess for media and also advertising.
But the job profiles are those of productions and media mgmt. Those are not very high paying jobs. Besides Mccann eric and O&M; are not really picking many MBA'S.
Do apply if you have a pasion for Advertising, have good verbal skills, getting 90-95 percentile and are ready to compromise a few bucks for a passionate job later.

u do have a few students at MICA..... (dynaMICA and slash iirc) ....drag them to this thread

HEy Ur Mad.... Tumne pukara aur hum chale aaye

Goldberg, about being interested in a media job, MICA is the best institute which gives u a bird's eye view . The jobs u get in a media firm after u graduate include strategic planning and media buying. All the major recruiters of Media ( Group M(Mindshare, Maximize, Fulcrum), Starcom, Madison, MPG, Initiative Media) and all others recruit regularly from MICA.

By the way, MICA also offers specialisations in Market Research, Accont Planning(People going into Advertising agencies as account planners and managers) and Brand Management. For any further queries, continue to post on this thread.

By the way quality of jobs shouldn't be a concern once u reach here.

Hey Slash what should be the percentile one should get to get a call from MICA.

And also is it true that they give extra weightage to the Verbal marks and in what range of Verbal scores were the calls issued last year?

Bye.

Hi raghoo,
great to know abt ur interest in MICA. Well the percentile cutoffs is defnitely over 92 percentile. But the whole cutoff is decided on the basis of number of applicants to MICA, the size of which is growing exponentially every year.

MICA traditionally lays greatest stress on Verbal and DI/Ds scores. Quant takes a back seat as opposed to those. However, this statement is based on numerous discussions and speculations we have had afer joining MICA. Even we aren't aware about all cutoffs etc. But my good guess would be DI/Ds- 94+, Verbal 95+, QUant- 80+..

Hope this information helps you to prepare accordingly. However, as a good advice I must tell u to fill up other forms as well as backup.

All the best to you

Hey Slash thanx mate for the reply.

One more thing that i would like to ask u is I have been consistently scoring 25 to 32 in the TIME mocks this year in VA/RC.

Is that good enough?

Bye.

Raghu

hi raghoo
i got de call last yr frm mica but wasnt able to convert de call. they r very specific about the kind of students they want to take and gettin de call is far easier than converting it. along wid gd/pi they conduct MET too which is one of its kind.

hey guys..............here's some truth abt MICA.
i know this from a friend in MICA, its reliable and true. not everyone knows this.. u see these mica guys will always try to show how good mica is, dont always believe them.
cutoffs for 2nd round: 87-88%tile
avg pay package: 3-3.2 lakhs
job profile: very advertising
but the cut offs in english are high, say 92-95% tile.
mica doesnt prefer engineers...and i know that 4 a fact...look at student ratio if u dont believe me.
overall, if advertising is ur passion, go 4 mica...otherwise there r million other places to apply 2. also be ready 4 quesrtions on ads and agencies and campaigns in the 2nd round.
hope this helped

Well Srinivas,
This friend of yours seem pretty out of touch. He's quoting 3 year old figures. AS I said in my earlier post, the cutoffs have risen much over the last 2-3 years. About the avg pay packages, I guess srinivas ur figures shud be close if u count advertising agency jobs( Discounting the fact that leader O&M; pays arnd 2L per annum).

Raghu I think ur scores are pretty Okk... maybe +5 more shud do the trick.

All the best.

hi there
the biggest mistake i did this year is not filling the form of CAT2004 i also have interst in media but i wasnt aware of the institute like MICA ,my friends who are preparing 4 CAT2004 later informed me abt this institute and then i was left with no option

if u have idea abt any other institute which doesnt come under CAT then pls tell me!

dearest slash
i can understand ur :argue: . but i have a friend who was called for MET at just 88.2%tile. he was pathetic, no wonder he dind get thru. abt placements, true the creme de la creme gets ard 4 lacs, but thats a small %age right. when u apply u must consider the worse case scenario.... that ur in the bottom half of the class. im sure i wouldnt get anywhere near even 3.5 lacs... shud be lucky 2 get 2.5 lacs then. i say this bcoz of the fact that this is purely advtg and u dont know how good u r at it unless u actually practice, so every chance of u gettin screwed up. and compare ur range of salaries to any other b-school, it is significantly different.
for myself, im keen on mica as im very much interested in advtg and am sure i'll end up in advtg. hence i'll have no probs in taking up mica. but its my duty as a fellow student to warn others right.
just feel that mica is a lil over-rated....buts its good enough 4 me.

Hey ppl!

Well, this was the dilemma with me too, whether to fill up MICA form or not, as last yr I was (even more) pathetic at RC-VA, compared to today.

But, believe me, if my scores r any indicator, its a plain myth tht they lay stress on RC-VA or even DI-DS - at least for a GD/PI/MET call, its not THE most important thing to be a boss at either of them.

My CAT 2K3 %iles were - RC-VA 77.9, DI-DS 92.93, QA 96.77, Overall 93.94, needless to say, I secured a MICA GD/PI/MET call. Didnt go further, thats true.

Slash!

Thanks for the info. But on a more personal note- what do you intend doing after graduation??

One more question ( to add to the growing list)- What sort of jobs does one get in a media related organization like say NDTV?

Wel, Hurray, there's the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication for which you'll have to take the SNAP test...
check out their website

Hi goldberg,
Well the essential Media jobs which I was talking about once you pass out from MICA would be in an agency where u wud be doing media planning/buying. That essentially involves preparing plans about allotments in various media and then meeting the broadcasters to book slots at negotiated prices.

In an orgn like NDTV, u can be assigned Broadcasting responsibilities, getting new accounts, interacting with media agencies etc. AM personally interested in this type of job, oft referred to as media marketing.Have done my summers in a media agency and currently specialising in Brand Mgmt from MICA.

Keep posting for further queries

Hey Guys and Gals,
I just can't tell you how happy I am to see many people who have some idea about MICA. I think MICA being a C- School is neglected in such forums. Hey Slash, it's nice to have a student from MICA in the forum. You can provide us with so much information. For the next 6 months, i'll be pestering you with all sorts of questions.

MICA has been my dream institute since the day I completed my schooling and stepped into college. I gave CAT last year

VA/RC - 95 percentile
QA - 48 percentile
DI/DS - 91 percentile

Sadly, didn't get a call. Hoping to clear it this year but there are many doubts in my mind. What if I don't make it into MICA this year? What if I'm not made for advertising? These questions scare the s*@t out of me. Anyway I'm applying for other institutes also.

Can you suggest some good books for basics and fundamentals of advertising ? Also what is the GD and PI of MICA all about? I've seen the sample MET on their official website so have some idea about that. It'll be a great help if you could give me some info about all this stuff. If I make it into MICA next year, I'll have my dream fulfilled and you'll have a slave for life.

Love and respect
Don Corleone

hey

I am also one of those who yearn to be in MICA...last year was a debacle....similar to don

eng 98%ile
DI 92%ile
QA 30 %ile

overall 94%ile......

and 1 more thing the cutoffs are not that high as being proclaimed by some people here(..not trying to be rude)

I mailed MICA people last year and had a good amt of conversation with them ..

and as far as i remember it was something like....

eng 80%ile
qa 66%ile
DI 75%ile

....pls search fr last year thrd on MICA u can find my exact post there..

bye fr now guys

Cheers
