Hi Everyone,
I am an MBA aspirant and particularly focusing on 1yr full time MBA in India
I have found the below top course from 8 top colleges in India.
Below are not in any specific order

1. ISB - The pioneer of 1 yr MBA in India
2. IIMA PGPX - The veteran institute's offering
3. IIMC PGPEX - Has been the next from another IIM
4. XLRI GMP - Has been there for quite somtime. Accepts XAT scores also
5. IIMB EPGP - First batch of 1 yr MBA started in 2009
6. IIMI EPGP - First batch of 1 yr full time MBA started 2009
7. IIML IPMX - 1 yr at noida campus
8. SPJAIN - 1 yr MBA at Mumbai campus(Not the Singapore-Dubai one)

The average workex at IIM's 1 yr course is much higher compared to others . The last few batches and current batches have
IIMA PGPX, IIMC PGPEX, IIMB EPGP around 10 yrs
IIMI EPGP and IIML IPMX around 9 yrs

compared to other schools that have average near 5-6 years
The avg. GMAT score remains broadly same (700+ varies with exp.)
So what else are they looking for.
International exp ?
Extra curriculars ?
Academic Background ?

Please help me out to derive a clear preference and value these options.
We are very clear in terms of 2 yr MBA courses now its time to evaluate
the 1 yr one.

Thanks

I believe IIM's have now pitched in with a lot of vigour for this 1 yr courses
All the IIM's have been able to successfully launch and promote their 1 yr courses.

This year IIM Bangalore EPGP (IIMB EPGP) was launched with Kiran Majumdar inaugurating the event.

On same lines IIM Indore EPGP (IIMI EPGP) was launched with Mr. A Vaideesh, Country Head Johnson and Johnson India, inaugurating the event .

PGPX is now itself a great brand over IIMA adding to it.

Given the pedagogy and alumni these institutes have they make a much better proposition.

ciao... trying to get into one of these PGPX/EPGP/PGPEX/IPMX

fee/scores accepted/ex required is as below

1. ISB - The pioneer of 1 yr MBA in India , 20lkhs/GMAT

3. IIMI EPGP - First batch of 1 yr full time MBA started 2009 17lkhs/CAT/GMAT/min.5yrs

Most of the 1-yr programs available in the country are in direct competition with their international counterparts. ISB is already out there and has made fantastic strides in a very short while.

IIM's are new to the game. They will obviously try to leverage their brand, which right now has bigger domestic recognition than internationally. But I'm guessing (and hoping) this will change in the future. They'll have to deliver the goods if they want to sustain and build on what they already have in the domestic market.

Now to your question. What is it that they are looking for?

At a broad level, the same stuff that the top schools look for. Great experience, great acads, great extra-curriculars. But in India, considering the traditional focus on entry scores, the emphasis may still be more on the quantitative attributes. Quality of experience will also be a big focus for such programs.

You've have rightly pointed out that the average work-ex for some of these schools is pretty high. With 10 years of experience, you'd better have some good stories to talk about and show Adcom the spectrum of skills and capabilities that you possess.

ISB has successfully replicated the international B-school 'model' in India and has been sensitive to local requirements (demographics, filter criteria, lateral placements et al). My guess is that the others won't deviate too much or experiment dramatically with this proven model. So extrapolate that and you won't be totally off the mark.

There are a lot of NRI coming back to India enrolling in IIM's 1 yr MBA.

So that means IIM's too will be focusing to pitch against global institutes with their own unique value proposition
