Defeating odds, medical aspirant from Chennai secured a PG medical seat in JIPMER

Divakar Josee, a medical aspirant from Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu reached his NEET PG examination centre in Chennai on December 5, as scheduled. But to his surprise, he was not allowed inside the examination centre as he was not carrying his original Aadhar card. Divakar has hoping that his e-Aadhar card would be enough to gain entry to the examination centre, as his wallet was stolen two days ago, which held all his original identification documents.

“I knew that identity proof would be required for the examination and that Aadhar is one of them, but I had no idea that they would not accept e-Aadhar card,” informed Divakar. At the examination centre, the authority informed Divakar that they had received an order two days prior to the examination to not accept e-Aadhar card as a document of proof. However, as Divakar points out, “It was not mentioned anywhere on the website, admit card or prospectus.”

Divakar decided to approach the NBE candidate care and mailed them regarding the same along with his FIR of the stolen purse, MCI registration and admit card copies. “After a series of e-mails sent to NBE (National Board of Examination), I finally got a call from them, allowing to re-schedule my examination to December 9. However, they said that there is no slot left in Chennai and that I would have to take the exam from some other centre,” said Divakar.

Having secured a call for the first counselling list of AIIMS, Delhi which was supposed to take place on December 14, he requested an exam slot on December 12 in Delhi. His JIPMER exam was due on December 11 in Chennai. “Initially I thought I would drop the JIPMER examination this year and attend the NEET PG as I had my AIIMS counselling on December 14 in Delhi as well. But, I finally decided to give JIPMER a shot. After the exam on December 11 in Chennai, I took a flight to Delhi and finally took NEET PG. It was both hectic and draining,” said Divakar.

On December 16, while checking the results of JIPMER MD/MS course, Divakar found out that he has secured seventh rank in the examination.

“Although I was preparing for AIIMS MD/MS examination, I didn’t have any specific strategy for JIPMER. I used to keep a note for things that needed frequent revision and it turned out to be very helpful for me,” said Divakar when asked about what was his preparation for JIPMER.

Divakar wanted to take Paediatrics as his specialty. His wish for 2017 was fulfilled, as he got admission in his desired specialty at JIPMER. “With only 105 seats in the January session, it is tough to make it to the list of selected candidates. I was sure to make it within the first 500, but seeing yourself in the top 10 always feels special,” concluded Divakar.
