Presently,I am working with AMERICAN EXPRESS as a CUSTOMER CARE ASSOCIATE for the past 2 years.Well I came to know this is not a great work exp. that is it is not sufficient to get into top 10 school..Please help me whether it is a decent work exp or not... I am very depressed and very confused as to what should be done in this particular case..I am also planning to apply to ISB this year.....

You know most of the times even being an analyst at McKinsey or BCG is also not sufficient to get into a top 10 school and u r so concerned about ur .....whatever experience.

so stop thinksing too much and make rest of ur app look good.

Nonsense. We came here to find the American Dream, and now we're right in the vortex you want to quit. You must realize that we've found the Main Nerve.

hi sgmatz,

IMPORTANT question is

boss when did u decide to do ur mba from us b.school...if u have just thought of it then just stop cribbing.....because u have just thot of doing mba...so from now count ur work ex and join some good comapny at the management level and i m sure some of te bpos migt give u a decent position at the management level...but depends wich field have u done ur bacelors from ..i m sure working at the management level even if it is a bpo counts for work.experience..........

I know it might be tough for a customer care guy to get placed at a mangement level... and that too in american express its tough getting the position at the management level...because i believe that in american express u dont even get a promotion for a minimum of 2 years....i hope i have got that correct.........

.........what we do in a bpo is the repetitive work.....but it does teach us a lot...

1.....spontaniety
2.....good verbal skills
3......confidence
4.....good anylatical ability
5.....opportunity to work in international environment..

but this is all for ur own personality develpoment.... and not for gaining entry at a good B.SCHOOL......

ONE MORE THING
if u already had a thing in ur mind for doing mba..even before u joined american express..the u sud have collected information before you went in that field....

and Well as of now as you think that you are the most depressed person on this earth..then you will be the most depressed person............................................ ..........just keep this thought out of ur mind and sometime just work and never think about getting the fruits of labour and leave something on the destiny..

was not being offensive...my appologies if it seems that way

cheers
kapil

Well thank you very much for your valuable suggestions..
I need to know one thing that is it necessary to get the exp at the management level..I mean in order to get into management position you are trying for MBA..

Well shud I give a shot to us bschools..
I am a B.tech..I thought of getting into the technical associate with other BPO but the customer care has got COOL BUCKS and of course environment is damn cool which is highly professional...all these things impressed me a lot that is why I joined...

Well I have sent my scores to:

1.isb
2.wharton
3.columbia
4.stanford
5.yale

Well guys what do you say I mean shud I give it a shot rite now or I shud go for it after getting some more work exp.

My profile

B.tech 68%
xth 75%
xiith 75%
gmat 720
exp. 2 years with AMERICAN EXPRESS
was a singer in school and lots of other extra curriculars activities

I have one more question that shud I join some NON PROFIT ORGANISATION..

PG guys all your valuable inputs are welcome..

GMAT exp. - 25-04-2005, 03:26 PM

Well guys before I get into my long story about the gmat prep little bit about me...

I m a B.TECH in ELECTRICAL. I tell you one thing without any hesitation that software is not my cup of tea where you need to keep yourself update with the latest in the market and solving all those programming stuff...I hope people can understand that...Well interacting with people is sth which I love to do and whats better than joining a BPO.....

Well now I am in a confusion as to my work exp would be given that much importance during the evaluation process or not...I have finally started working on my apps and gonna apply this year.....

Here goes my GMAT prep:
------------------------------

I hope this meagre attempt of mine may help you achieving your goals..

TIME DEVOTED:

Well I devoted 3 months seriously despite the hectic work schedule..I tell
------------------I tell you guys that this GMAT really SUCKS!!!! so dont do anything without giving any prior thought I mean a well prepared guy can take you heights so better be prepare otherwise this G gonna make you go crazy...

BOOKS USED:
---------------

1.OG
2.Princeton review
3.kaplan
4.Kaplan 800
5.Of course, Power prep

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF BOOKS:
-------------------------------------

1.OG: All you guyz out there take my word for that, that use this book like a "GRANTH"..I mean it especially for verbal as it very close to the REAL GMAT..Do all the questions for verbal as it is the mirror image of the questions that you get in the REAL G....

2.Princeton review: Well the fundas given in this book are really grt so learn all the fundas but beware of the fact that this book is only for people who are looking to get score in the bracket of 630 to 670...So all you guyz aiming for 700+ score keep on reading..

3.Kaplan: Yes guyz believe me this is really good especially the hard questions...Remember the more comfortable you are with hard questions the more your score in REAL G.... Especially for QUANT.

4.kaplan 800: you are gonna get some real SUCKING questions in this book but I would recommend you guys to atleast go through it once..

MOTIVATION MANTRA AND METHODS:
-------------------------------------------

GMAT is the most boring exam I mean doing those F*** questions again and again well you need sth that can be a motivation and keeps you going on so that you finally F*** this grt evil on this earth....

Well I followed this technique to get this MOTIVATION, in fact till my GMAT deadine I was on a honey moon with this motivation.

I made number of charts and on that I wrote down all the goods points and maxim that could really help you in cracking the exam...I used to read them daily and then get back to work. this really helped me a lot.....

Practice Tests:
----------------
PowerPrep tests: 700, 720
Kaplan Tests: 540, 620, 600, 650

Guys so be focussed and crack it...

Well I have decided to get down for CAT this year. However I m very focussed toward US BSCHOOLS....

Guys I would appreciate if you could let me know as which is the best material for CAT as I came to know that quant in CAT SUCKS!!!!!!

Guys catch you later with more gyan reg. GMAT....

Till then Take care and all your valuable inputs would be welcome..

Best of luck Guys

Experimental Questions/Section in GMAT - 25-04-2005, 06:04 PM

Hi All,

I just wanted to clear a doubt regarding the experimental questions which appear in the GMAT. My question is - whether, an entire experimental section appears in the GMAT similar to the GRE or are these experimental questions embedded inside the 2 regular sections. Also, are these experimental questions marked as experimental or are we unawre as to which are the experimental questions and which are the questions which will count to our score?

Thanks in advance!

2 weeks to go for GMAT!

Questions are embedded in the 2 sections only... these questions are just different formats that ETS tries out and are not counted.

BOL for ur exam

There are 9/37 experimental questions in Quant and 11/41 in Verbal. So how many ever questions u might think u got wrong only half might go against your score.
Ofcourse no question is going to come up with a tag that says experimental! I believe that out of two questions that you might find confusing and difficult in the GMAT one will be an experimental question but ofcourse you will never know which one...
