Why Finance?

Hello Everyone

How good is the PGDM in Advanced Financial Planning and Wealth Management course from IIFP, Delhi?

Is it AICTE approved???

Please help.
Any link where I can get in depth knowledge about corporate finance..
Dear C_Kant,

What was your field of focus while studying? Risk Management, Corporate Finance, Development Finance or any other? According to your concentration would be easier to advice anything on that as the field itself is very vast and it usually easier if you had chosen particular concentration during your studies, which meets your interest the most. Also, the search of job depends on your ability to perform during the interview and present yourself in a way so that company is confident of investing into you. It does not depend much on your first university degree as long as you performed well and have good skills to offer to the company with your current degree. Does university provide any assistance in this? We for example, have our own Career Centre to help students with their careers, maybe your university has something similar?

Regards,

Forget CFA etc unless you are in a job that needs it.

Get the CQF (Certificate in Quantitative Finance) if you can't do an MBA/CA.

And Why Finance? It pays well and makes me a chick magnet.

Hi

Can anyone give me a link to a case study done by an equity research analyst so that I can know more about various job responsibilities associated with it? I couldn't find one on the internet.
thanks in advance

Have decent Extra curricula.
I am an Computer Science Engineer and just completing 4 months in IT industry.

Why Finance?
I started off being interested in Engineering.I enjoyed learning and also performed very well at it. But after getting exposed to the work done by my CA friend and my bother working in investment banking, I realized that I was much more interested in pursuing finance because I want to make an impact and work in the fast-paced and analytic environment.
Since then, I have done some research on my own and also invested some part of the amount I got from scholarships. I invested some amount in FD, some in Mutual funds and bought share of Reliance Industries through my dad창€™s demat account. But the company made losses and so did I. Then learning from my mistakes, under the guidance of my brother I invested in profit making shares. The investments, analysis, equity started interesting me. I have realized that starting out in finance would be the best fit for me. In the long-term I want to be an investor or trusted advisor to companies, and I see banking as the ideal path to getting there.

hello everyone

I have a medical background (MBBS) and want to take up finance as a career post MBA

How much of an issue will my past be in getting a summer placement in BFSI sector ?
Will CFA level 1 be of any help before the summer placements ?

Are there any colleges which I should not be joining ? Among the colleges that I have a possibility of making into this year are : new IIMs, MDI SCMHRD and NMIMS
@manukk Looks good.. but you should be able to answer the questions related to investing that the panel may ask..
@mayankleo_1 What kind of questions can i expect. ?
I can tell which shares i bought, why i bought those. PE ratio, PEG ratio.
I can even ans which is my fav stock and why.
If asked of the Facebook IPO issue. I can say describe it to some extend.
If asked of mutual funds. I can speak on them too. But not too much. I don't have much knowledge related to debt mutual funds or hybrid MF. equity MF i can at least speak something.
What elz can i prepare. ??
@manukk knowing the actual ratios is a different thing while knowing the significance of those is another.. the panel may not go very deep into it, but if you know the actual application of things you know, they would definitely be impressed..

Hii. I am a CA working since past 6 months.. I am looking forward to do MBA to get into management & hone my managerial and other skills. But i can't decide whether i should go for regular 2 year PGDBM course or Executive PGD or MIM (abroad). Really need some advice .

@Sunny.D Executive PGD is for people who have good amount of experience (generally > 5 years). Do you want to wait till that period as you don't have the required years of experience as of now.
@@kvrvmanoj 5 years is too long. But I am not sure about the value addition and need of the 2 yrs course after doing CA. Further as of now I am open to doing job as well as business.
@Sunny.D I would suggest you to continue working for now and after getting 2-3 years of experience you can think of doing MBA.
@frankfurtadm

Guys
Can anyone upload or give link of common MBA placement interview questions ?

@abhimukh19 : thanx sir. d thread is awesome !

@gnsharda dear Gaurav,

My sincere apologies, I somehow missed on your query and have noticed it only today.

I can understand your worries and doubts, since you may think that you already have CA and basically are trained in various aspects of finance and accounting.

With your current post you could surely become a good helper in tax planing and so on, but the answer to why would you need MBA still, is very simple: to boost your career. Unless you are thinking of taking the same post all the time.

However, one always should aim to learn and achieve more.

In your case if you take MBA, especially in top B - schools, you will pay the tuition fee to invest into your career. After completing the course you will basically jump from your current post to a higher one and have good chances to become CFO, which is one of the most important post in the company going hand in hand with CEO. If you have such scopes, MBA would be just what you need.

You would also have additional knowledge of strategy, marketing, business and economics with a wider long term thinking. This is essential for top finance companies and banks who usually need both, CA and MBA. And if you aim to work and progress and be someone rather than sit in the same post, then the answer is clear. After all, the person who says that he does not have what to learn or anything else achieve in his life has hardly a reason to live anymore.

This of these advantages and make a good answer to your interview question.
