WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE

Indian agriculture sector still employees the largest share of population close to 45 percent and contributes to about 16 % of GDP. But a new trend has been seen in agriculture that is the feminization of agriculture with more and more men looking out for better living conditions and moving to cities . Women are now taking up agriculture as an occupation.

There are many challenges which the women faces in this occupation first  of all they dont have the reqquired skills to get the best productivity from field. Secondly dur to the patriarchal nature of indian society women lack the property rights on the farm. Thirdly due to less bargaining power women doesnt get the property rights in thier name.

Their can be various advantages of providing women with property rights .First of all it has been seen from various studies that women spent money in a proper manner on thier children ,household etc. Secondly it will lead to empowerement of women where they dont have to depend upon thier male counterpart finacially thus will be less exploited . Third this money can be used by women for other economic activities to get more income and thus turning the villages into hubs of economic activities.

Though goverment have taken some steps in this direction such creation of SHG that can help women getting more awareness about thier rights. 15th october has been declared as womens farmer day by Indian goverment .

But still a lot needs to be done like bringing in laws so that women can get thier property rights. Creating proper agencies to look that such laws are implemented in letter and spirit.

Disinvestments In india

After India got independence India started to follow USSR model of five year planning .So the then PM of india decided to create PSU so that they become the engines of economic growth in India. Private sector was restricted to only a select few areas.

Disinvestment is defined as a process where the goverment sell some stake in the company to private players due to various issues like regular loss faced by companies, bringing more effciency in management ,reducing the work force of the company etc. Goverment of India in the last financial year put a target of about 72000 crore to be earned from disinvestment in various PSU.

There are many advantages in disinvestment like the goverment doesnt have to put money from the budget to revive the loss making psu. Secondly goverment will have more money to look after social- economic development of country. Thirdly if the companies get into private hands it can be revived by bringing in more effciency and transparency.Better technologies can be brought in the company . Lastly there will be no political interference and red tapism in private hands.

There are many disadvantages also that  disinvestment brings in like many a times even profit making companies stakes are sold to private players which is wrong. It can bring monopoly and oligopoly in society ultimately harming the end costumers. Private ownership looks after profit rather than the overall socio-economic development of society.

Though disinvestment is a good idea in case of loss making companies like Air india, hindustan zinc limited but the goverment should make sure that good companies that are profit making should not be disinvested .

I am from 9th march slot and my marks are spot on match with answer key. But several People Claim that they did not get marks for "Benefit to all" questions....is it really the case? What's the truth?

FDI IN INDIA

After the 1991 LPG  reforms in India .India opened up its economy and allowed private companies to come in india to invest .Various sectors that were prviously in control of goverment were opened up allowing Big MNC to come to such a big market that India is.

In India FDI is allowed in mostly all sectors except nuclear projects, railways ,agriculture ,lottery business and chit funds.

Its due to FDI only that india has become such a big service sector market with companies like google, accenture, wipro ,tcs etc contributing more that 50% in gdp and employing lakhs of people.

The govement has limited resouces collected through taxes to run the economic cycle of the country so the role of FDI becomes important. There are various advantages of FDI like it brings in new technologies ,brings in employment at a large scale. Secondly its helps in bringing  more competition among domestic and international companies so ultimately the costumer is benefitted at last.

There are some disadvantages in FDI also sometimes small companies are not able to compete with large MNC and these MNC creates monopoly in market. Many a times these MNC are not properly giving taxes to goverment by finding loop holes in the income tax act. They are many a times involved in lobbying the politicians so that rules are framed as per thier needs thus undermining the institution of democracy.Even many a times in elections these big MNC  funds the political parties for thier benefits.

Though FDI has helped a lot in the growth of economy in India but it should be seen that these big MNC dont use the money power to lobby the politicians so that the overall istitution of democracy remains helathy.
