Altruism vs Philanthrophy !
These are very close but not synonyms. Both deal with welfare of fellow beings and society but a minor difference is that an Altruist is driven by selfless desire and expects nothing back while Philanthropy can have selfish motives.
Eg. you helping some stranger you will never meet is Altruism.
Salman Khan running Being Human (can affect his image in impending court verdict) or NGOs doing welfare to evade taxes are examples of Philanthropy.
