Hello friends...
A mesage to all...
After sending our applications to SIOM we dont have to do anything... Just sit and relax.. Sleep as much as you can(wise thought)..
We all will be getting our joining letters soon. Joining date will probably be June 1st.

@ seniors... During our admission process you all told us regarding events and different things that will happen in first year.. I and guess many were busy thinking about Interviews.. So can you just brief all of us the sequence of events..
As in june july aug sep.. what wil happpen ..and then next couple of months... It's not me but my curiosity that is asking such...

Regards,
Abhinav

1st thing your date is fixed! 'We look forward to receive you on the campus on 1st June, 2009.'

Regarding events..
First within a week of joining you will celebrate the SIOM foundation day on the 11th of June.
Oh before that we had 3 days of Health and Holistic workshop. OMG it was a true experience of a lifetime!! haha.. Those who bothered to listen might have gained something, i didnt. Managed to finish a couple of novels in the meantime. The best part, the morning sessions of Yoga. Dont miss them!!
Vipassana also happened in June. Aah 10 days of pure ____ . 😃 Will not fill it as the experience depended from individual to individual. There were the sincere ones, and then there were the not so serious ones (Me included). It's a different experience and is basically there to prepare you for your next two years of hectic life. Those who want to do it sincerely all the best, those who dont, contact me 😛 Vipassana is basically medidating for at least 7-8 hours. MY PERSONAL OPINION.. i would probably wanna do it somewhere later in life. Not now!!
You will also have outbound learning once you come back. The funnest one day!! Pray that it rains 😃 It's even funner that way.
Then life goes on till July. This time we join the campus late, on july 14th. Once we come back you would have to listen to all our project presentations which is quite boring. You will not understand most of it. We had asked the faculty to change the pattern. Hope they do it!
In the meanwhile your committes will be formed. Guest lecture, cultural, IT, publicity, sports and most importantly Placement. Only for the placemnt you would have interviews, rest would be chosen by college.

Phew.. To be contd ...

Then by August your weekly tests start. Pure torture 😃 You will have almost 3-5 tests a week. Teams for Tattv- the national summit are also formed around the same time.
Sports events start in July-August and run up till Feb. First we had the cricket tournament, then football, followed by basketball. These happened in sem1. Badminton, TT and Carrom happened in sem 2.
In sem 1 the main cultural functions are Foundation Day, 15th August, Ganpati Staphna. and in sem 2, Lohri, 26th Jan and Drishti. More events can happen on the sole discretion of director and the cultural commitee.
Now coming to the most important thing: EXAMS! For us they happened in Nov in sem 1, just after Diwali. Actually it would be around Diwali, after or before it. Expect a week holiday for it. Sem 1 exams are back to back.. 2 in a day. So 13 exams in 7 days 😃 Be prepared. It's less scary then it sounds!

I think i have covered most things. You can specific questions if you have any.

One-man one-post principle applies for all committees!

its more than military camp.
dont worry there are many more things in siom.
you can opt for any number of commitees. but each one will be in only one of it.
Hey Mridul, a few doubts :

1. Foundation day on 11th, so 1st to 10th June will be Vipassana rt ?

2. Then YOu have said 3 days of holistic & Health workshop,
when is that ?

3. OMG what does it stand for ?

4. ' You will also have outbound learning once you come back' come back
from ?

1.No. They wont take you for Vipassana right away. We went in the 3rd week of June.
2. For us it was immediately after joining. Dont know about you guys though!
3. OMG : Oh my god
4. Back from Vipassana. Again it might be different for u guys.

Hi guys,
Vipassana might be like military camp but some of us have got very good experience over there. Its a chance of being with yourself. Don't miss this chance. Rest is upto you guys.

All the best.

ok..what is the prescribed dress for the classes??
What do girls wear to class? is there any uniform?
Is there a multi-gym as well apart from the yoga sessions?

Anything casual is fine. Jeans, tees, kurtas, etc. Sleeve less can be avoided though! And also no chappals allowed 😃 Unifrom is there but thats just for guest lectures and official functions.

There is a gym, and well i was just talking about Yoga in the health and holistic workshop. Otherwise you will have 15 days each of Yoga, Aerobics and Gym on a rotation basis from 6-7am every morning. 6 days a week

SIOM

5 days a week or 6 days???

another query:
What kind profiles do freshers from Comp Sc background get? both in final and summer placements? I know the placements are not yet over and its not in decorum to mention the companies and figures, but a general overview would do great!

Sometimes 7 days too.

I dont know about the finals. For summers there is not much differentiation according to your branch except if you are a mechie. You apply in the profiles you are interested in!

Since, SIOM intake is restricted to engineers, therefore, almost everyone is more or less on the same level (particulary from the angle of accounting & finance subjects). Therefore, unlike other colleges, SIOM need not to ask the students to come prepared with additional readings! So, enjoy your 2-3 months before coming here because will rarely get the chance to go home (for those hailing from far-off places).
